I'm surprised by how many TH-camrs are having issues or not good results with the Sonax. I use it a lot with my detailing business down here in Florida and on my own personal vehicle's and have had it last a solid 4 months with the brutal heat and rain and maybe 2 maintenance washes on my wife's SUV. Hit it with chemical's all the time on customer vehicle's and it stands up just fine. Maybe the product is just overloaded with chemical residue etc.
correct ! and they use it wrong all the time. way to much product... its like they can't read instructions. yesterday I saw American video of sonax polymer netshield. it was gone after first chemical round. (Adams wheeliron remover). I don't understand this. It resists pretty much all alkaline pre washes. why would you do a test with iron remover. something you do once a year or max twice a year. I use sonax ceramic spray all the time and it lasts easily a month with perfect beading even after washing every weak with ph12 pre-wash.
I feel like Sonax would make a great topper for a true ceramic coating. The hydrophobics are stupid and it would be great to apply as maintenance every 4 or so months if you're into that kind of thing. I have Sonax (only the spray coating, not as a topper) applied to my personal car and I'm 3 months in with no signs or wear outside of right behind the tires.
That's exactly what I did with my car. Apply Sonax every 3-4 months on top of my current ceramic coating I had done professionally. Looks great, no issues with streaking makes my black paint that much more deep and glossy.
@@marcos45923Same here but additionally I’ll use sonax ultra slick ceramic detailer as a drying aid. It also uses the same SI-C technology as the spray coating but is as the name suggest ultra slick and shiny.
As someone that's been in the detail buisness over 13 years, doing on average 10 plus cars a week. That is definitely not how you apply a ceramic spray coating. Applying straight to the paint is why you're getting those results. Not just that , your wasting to much product that way. All it takes is two squirts directly to a microfiber towel and applying in a uniform cross hatch pattern. Immediatly apply/immediatly wipe off.
not a pro, but love that Sonax product. I also get 4 to 6 months in New Mexico with outdoor cars. Application is the key. I saw his 2 videos on Opti-Coat Hyper seal and thought the same thing. You don't use reset as a maintenance wash, at least I don't.
Thanks for the dedicated research Jeremy. You're saving money and time for a lot of detailers that may not have found their favorite and effective products yet. I know you perked my interest in the Koch Chemi So02 spray sealant in the last battle video. That stuff seems pretty solid!
It does. I have been using it a lot since the video and it seems pretty solid. I only use it as a longer duration sealant and not for routine use. Thanks for watching
Can you do a test where you compare the same coating, but with different application methods? Eg. Use turtle wax graphene flex wax, split the hood in 3, then do a dry application, a drying aid application, and a rinse off application? And compare durability? For the products that advertise multiple application methods, like flex wax, bead maker...etc. it would be really interesting to see the difference.
as someone who has used the sonax ceramic spray. you dont need to wait for it to flash. you just wipe on and wipe off. without waiting. it flashes super quick. also, both need a little bit of cure time for full effect. ideally, 24hrs
Thanks. Yeah. That hood sat there for at least 24 hrs. Sonax is incredibly hydrophobic and would probably be nice without all those chemicals sprayed on it in the test. Chemical resistance is low but that is not the end all be all. Thanks for watching
@@HawaiiDetailing i completely agree with you on the chemical resistance. realistically, you wont be seeing that level of chemicals. hence why its called a torture test. would love for you to try some of the products from artdesine
Those buckets are looking cool! I was watching the water behavior of Sonax and started getting excited. Then after one punch it was knocked out cold and left feeling disappointed.
Hahahaha. Yes I agree. It was really good before the chemical test but maybe it could be a great topper because wow it was hydrophobic. Thanks for watching
Sonax is my favorite as far as hydrophobic properties. No question. But it only lasts me 3-4 months with weekly hand washes. But since it's so easy to re-apply, it's not a problem. It's not slick and not the easiest to get off after application but the hydrophobic are addictive. Nufinish Graphene has similar hydrophobic properties and lasts longer but it's horrific to apply and take off because it's the most grabby product I've ever used. If they could find a way to have the ease of application of seal n shine and ice spray wax with the hydrophobic properties of sonax ceramic spray coating and the longevity af around 5-6 months, they'd have a true winner!
Something is really fishy or at least weird here. The Sonax CSV will outlast that random product for sure. And I never had problems with the application ever, it's one of the easiest products to put on your car.
Yeah he does some great tests. These test are a different spin on it testing durability to chemicals and washes. Sonax sheeting was insane. You really can’t go wrong with most top shelf products nowadays.
When you do these tests you should use a strip soap after using these high ph products, they can leave a film behind that hinders the hydrophobic properties
I hear you but these are dead when I am done 100% for sure. I could add that between products but the few times I tried that it was the same same. Thanks for the feedback.
Nice, but you have to take in to account that the only important thing is durability to wash. All the other chemical you use, it's not something you want to put on any coated car. Each product reacts different to the exposure to some chemicals, so you might use other company bug remover and it will not hearth the coating at all.
i'm surprised you didn't go for clear buckets. I like the visual appeal or even the blue and red tinted chemical guys ones and just throw your design on top of there label
Should you use a drying agent such as Bead Maker after washing before applying a sealant such as one of these? Common sense tells me it would interfere with proper adhesion but I don’t know if that’s outweighed by the danger of introducing love marks by drying without a drying agent. Thanks. I love your videos by the way, they’re fun to watch and teach me a ton.
Sonax is a beast. Panels should have been washed with soap before a real look at beading can be made. Also there ultra slick detailer is hands down best "ceramic quick detailer" on the market.
I agree Jay. I prefer a traditional ceramic coating with a routine lighter durability product as a drying aid used after each wash. OG drying aid is my favorite and Beadmaker is my goto #2. I have been wanting to test all the popular longer durability sealants just to see how they are. Some of these may be good for a situation where you can’t wash the car for months and you want a sacrificial layer on top of you ceramic or you don’t have a ceramic coating at all. So far I am liking the KC SO02. I have a bunch more to test so we shall see. Hahaha
I have been using the Sonax for my car in winter in Finland. It's hard to say what is good for your car, as the conditions in here are so extreme. I mean it's from +5c to -20c in one month. But maybe the Sonax is better than nothing.
Great video! I was excited for Sonax but only to be very disappointed at the end lol. Would you use any of these tested items after claying a car? If not, what would you use?
Still could be a great topper for a ceramic coating. Chemical resistance is weak but if you have a ceramic underneath then no problem there. Yea I would use them. One of the choices you have to make when choosing a coating; do you prefer great hydrophobicity or good slickness? Doesn't seem like you can have both.
My preference is a true ceramic coating with a very slick lower durability topper coating applied as a drying aid after each wash. This is hands down the best option. You get the best of both worlds. Option 2 would be a very durable spray sealant topped with a low durability topper (drying aid) after each wash. I am searching for the golden goose that does both well and has some real durability. Not sure why The Last Coat performed as poor as it did in this test - however, don't write it off. I love TLC for its great beading, and super high gloss and slickness.
