    I've purchased multiple parts from this company and nearly all of them have failed within a year or two. I purchased a new carrier bearing and had it professionally installed by a mechanic who has over 35 years experience and the thing disintegrated in less than a year of mild driving and very few miles. Do not purchase parts from this company

    This is exactly the problem with my Nissan Frontier 2WD. I bpurchased the U joints and the carrier bearing and was going to repair it myself. Well, be 76 years old and post aorta surgery, I don't have the strength to break the bolts loose at the differential. This old man has got to know his limitations. I had scheduled it to be repaired at a local transmission shop.

    Might want to add that a bent/warped driveshaft (loss of balancing wrights, dents in the shaft from road debris) could cause premature failure to the center bearing. I've learned many tips and tricks from your channel. Thanks for taking the time to help others!

    You ought to call this a "center bearing" replacement because when I hear carrier bearing I think of the differential carrier bearings inside of them. Too vague of a term.

  • @maxwellhouse1902
    @maxwellhouse1902 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    Also important to mark the positions of where the front and rear flanges were originally mated or else you can have balance issues when you're done. I replaced my carrier bearing on my 2000 Tundra well before it needed replacing but 185k on the original was playing with fire for sure. I've watched many of your A1 videos and you and Sue do a marvelous job of explaining things at a 9th grade comprehension level, which is just the right method for many of us out here laying on our backs trying to fix something we've never done before. Please keep the info coming sir!!

    Can these sound like a wheel hub assembly going bad? I'm getting a kind of droning sound, which I thought was a wheel bearing. Replaced both rear hubs I got from you folks, but the droning is still persisting. Climbed under and the carrier can wiggle back and forth like 1/8-1/4 inch, but I don't know if they're supposed to have a little play.

    Your channel makes some great videos. Replaced the u joint at the pumpkin a year ago. Just replaced the carrier bearing and seals at transfer case output and rear differential input this last week while doing the carrier bearing. Now it squeals. Thought it was the brake until I hacked it up and turned it by hand and could hear it coming from the center of the truck. What is the fix to this?

    Thanks for all this very useful advice. I learned something new: also inspect (and replace if needed) the U joints because they possible could the cause of a worn carrier bearing/rubber. Will apply this on my car, a manual Ford Capri 3.0S v6 from 1978. The gearbox lever goes a bit up and down (shaking) while driving. When inspecting the underside of the car I felt some play (+- 10mm when pushing it by hand) at the rubber of the carrier CV joint. I hope it will fix the issue... greetz Erwin

    I have a 2008 standard F-150. I got on it merging into traffic, more than normal. I started hearing a clanking sound after that. Only when I'm accelerating. Not when I'm coasting. A friend of mine told me it could be the carrier bearing. Hard to say I know I'm just what I'm telling you but what do you think?

    I replaced the right rear axle on my 2003 Explorer. Nuw as I am driving everything goes smoothly until I reach 20 to 30 mph, then there's what start as a low winding noise the rapidly increases in sound and a knocking or clunking noice that feels like something is coming apart in the drivetrain. The only way to stop it is to slow down or stop. Help?

    YES DUDE! I just replaced mine...like this morning. LOUD clanking and cranking noise along with alot...ALOT of vibration and crunching noise imagine crunching a bag of potato chips but so loud. The noise was everyonce in a while, like once a week at first. Then this last week noise here and there about once or twice a day, this weekend, non-stop noise and vibration. The one on my truck looked pretty bad, probably worse than the one you showed, rubber wise, except the shaft and metal parts were not so rusty (texas desert). One of the three u-joints was crunchy moving one way and totally seized moving it the other way (the other two worked perfectly). Replaced both the u-joint and carrier bearing and the truck is now running fine. To think i took it to the auto shop about 4 weeks ago and they told me it was my suspension and brakes. Had those replaced, $1500.00 dollars and three weeks after that the noise was back. In all honesty the truck needed those parts replaced but still man that was a little dissapointing. Thanks to your video i was able to diagnose and take care of it. Keep up the great work, you guys are freaking awesome.

    Hey bud the carrier bearing I got has a small like sleeve with a odd collor, a video on the reinstall of a bearing would be great 👍 especially when they come with extra parts. Looked all over online an nodda damn thing that’s helpful for what I need, wasted $26 on a Haynes online manual with NO Dice for what I needed it for. Lolz I’d put it in a shop for them to slap it back together but they all claim that they don’t have 5mins to slap it together for me, even offered them $100 for 5mins of their time. It’s all ready to go on old one is off new ujoints are in just need that damn diagram for the carrier bearing install of the new one. To a 99 GMC Sonoma

    old video but with a driveshaft that looks like that... hasnt been out in a long time.. likely the truck ended up in your shop because of noise or vibration.. I would also have that shaft balanced as a complete set.. yokes probably arent necessary to have for balancing.. unless you have a medium duty with a drum on the rear diff or at the end of the transmission.. then you want to take the yoke with the drum.. a reputable shop will mark your whole set for proper phasing and alignment.. yes alignment is important on a multi-piece shaft.. (I have helped more than one person in my vintage bus group fix driveshaft vibes by simply properly phasing (and adjusting ride on height on a rear air suspension)...

    @1aauto Please reply. I need some guidance and dont want to pay for a mechanic to diagnose.
    There is some INTERMITTENT metal on metal grinding/scratching but only at low speeds. If i take off easy from a dead stop, I'll hear the grinding for about 2 seconds, then it'll stop for a few seconds then grind some more. Itll do this until my speed gets up past 35mph... then it stops. If I'm at a dead stop and I punch the gas and go, I dont hear anything then either.
    So I just got under my truck and grabbed the drive shaft right behind the center support bearing and theres slop in it.. I can move the drive shaft around with my hand. Do you guys think that this is what's causing the sound I'm hearing?

    • @liam3044
      @liam3044 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm no expert but might be some gears, if it's an auto your transmission is probably deactivating and reactivating your first gear reduction. But the best way to diagnose is to get under and start wiggling stuff, see what spins and what doesn't and weather or not it's supposed to.

  • @CraigSmith1
    @CraigSmith1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have a 4x2 F-150 and have had to repair/replace the hanger bearing 4 times and it's failing again. I think mud and other crap get inside and cause damage as I'm often at the landfill. They also usually replace the U joints and re-balance the drive shaft.
    The first time around it was costly as on the 4x2 it's not a serviceable driveshaft so they have to do extra work.
    It's a 2009 and at the end of its life due to rust and KM's.
    On another note, the driveshaft has been to two shops, and they both used different techniques. Sadly both seem to fail after a year.

    If you have your drive shaft out, please just replace all the u joints.

    You could have perfect U-joints and have a bad carrier bearing because the rubber has deteriorated

    I NEED HELP! I drive a Jeep and it doesn’t have a carrier bearing but it’s doing what you described. Speaking and vibrating when around 40 mph and when going uphill. Do you know what this could be?

      +Reed Riley We wouldn't be able to diagnose an issue like that here, you may want to have a local mechanic take a look at it. Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c

    My 2013 CRV AWD had the same issue. It is unserviceable so the entire drive shaft needed to be replaced.
