You're helping me notice things that I've missed so many times in listening to this track. I appreciate what you're doing with your channel. Thank you, from a struggling musician!
About the jazz-metal thing; going to parties with musicians you’ll see metalheads by themselves, the pop and rnb folks won’t really mingle. The same goes for jazzers, they’ll be sitting by themselves and no one wants to talk (it’s gonna get all technical and who wants that). Then the jazzers see the metalheads, at first a bit put off by the tattoos, beards and attitude…the metalheads a bit put off by the fact that the jazzers aren’t pissed and have had a shave, and nice pants, then they’ll sit down and talk measures and tempo, times and syncopations for hours. A musical match made in heaven. Musical nerds to a fault. I love it.
This was a fantastic appraisal; Slipknot we're a hard one for me to get into when I was a teenager as they had a bit of a reputation for being 'too heavy', whereas these days into my late 20s I exist on a diet of death metal and black metal hahahaha. Oh how I wish young me could see me now! Anyway, thanks for all the videos you do, your style, chill, mellow vibe and expert knowledge and affable personality make you my go to when I want to be entertained, informed and relaxed. Thanks Geebz! A quick side note - if you have any room left at all on your ever growing list of songs to check out (and please take care not to get burnt out - I don't want you to ever stop!) I would be ecstatic if you could check out either 1) some newer stuff by Dir En Grey, or 2) anything by a band called Moonsorrow. They are a hypnotic blend of black metal, folk, Prog, and pagan music and to me are like a viking version of Tool haha
Geebs, you are killing me, man! Not only are your comments gold, your questions are, too! I love that you say you know enough guitar to be dangerous, that totally sounds like an audio engineer comment to make. (I am an audio engineer and guitar player of 3 decades.) I happen to have a friend who I'm not kidding, is named Thor, who taught me, what I would consider to be the one right way to do "pinched harmonics." You figure out where all of the harmonic nodes are, in whatever way is comfortable to you. You can just run your hand up and down the fretboard while picking, or you can do so-called touch harmonics to find all of the spots.... Once you know the spots, the most exact way to coax them out of your instrument is to espouse a very specific technique with your picking hand. Hold pic firmly between them and forefinger, and, on the downstroke, you brush somewhere around the first joint of your thumb knuckle against the string in question at literally the same moment that you pick the string. Practice moving your picking hand up and down the length of each string to find the nodes that you earlier discovered. There are nodes across the fretboard and nodes that extend beyond the fretboard. You can use the nodes that extend beyond the fretboard to modify what you're playing on the fretboard.... I know this is needlessly long, but please know that I am one of your best fans. I haven't yet expressed that with a cup of coffee, but I promise to do that in the near future, and now that I know that you're doing lyrical breakdowns on patreon, I plan to foray into that. I love your content. You have inspired me to keep doing what I love when I'm not at work, doing my day job, which isn't music related, of course... As long as you care to keep putting these videos out, I will watch them! Also, when I say "one right way," I mean for me, not everyone. I struggled with learning this technique for almost a year, so please know I'm coming from a very humble place when I tell you these things. Also, learning this technique has been an instrumental part of me becoming a better player, and definitely a more nuanced player, so, as someone who loves your content, I just felt the need to chime in. Be well, and I can't wait to see you next video! (Just for your own market research purposes, I came here from tool, but love korn, too!)

Nine members all doing different things, somehow synchronized into a sort of controlled chaos that is unbelievably powerful to witness. Check out “Prosthetics” next for a bit of their earlier, darker side... 🤘🤙
Great review! Generally when I do pinch harmonics on the guitar I roll my picking thumb over and lightly touch the string directly after picking. Then simply bend the note to your content. :) I love slipknot and would love for you to check out just how raw they were on the first album. Give a try to anything off their debut self titled album. Some of the tracks off the beaten path really capture their appeal of being something different when they first started out.

Great song and great review. Thanks for hours of entertainment, Geebz. Aloha! Corey Taylor has a great voice, love his solo stuff and Stone Sour as well. Worth checking out, cheers!
Definitely, I may even like Stone Sour more than Slipknot. And those Burbank EPs!
I love it.
Cynic, Atheist, Human era Death comes to mind
Absolutely needs to be noted that an empty keg is being blasted with an aluminum baseball bat throughout the "composition"
I don't know why, but this song sounds SO emotional. Love this !!
Guys, who else thinks he will really enjoy Opeth - Eternal rains will come?
💯💯 Though Moon Above, Sun Below would be solid as well.
YES!
Or the drapery falls. But yes any Opeth.
Please consider: The Faceless - Planetary Duality pt.1&2.
Honestly; he’d love the sample in the beginning
Ayyy, I’m down with that
Don't worry, Geebz. You're cool no matter what. It's just part of who you are, and part of why we're all here.
On a roll of great songs at the mo Geebz!
So, you MUST do Eskimo Callboy - Hypa Hypa.
You won’t be disappointed! 🤣
Yes, yes, dear god please yes!!
I have an unhealthy obsession with Hypa Hypa and all its versions. It's just so damn fun!
and watch the video!
@@dodgrblu the videos are everything!
Dude, you rock! I really enjoy watching your videos and it really feels like I am experiencing this with you.
The Dillinger Escape Plan - Paranoia Shield
Or, One of Us is the Killer
Or...... The Mullet Burden! 😜
Or..... We Are the Storm!! Panasonic Youth.... 😬😬🤘🤘
PRANCER live!
Or Unretrofied! That song kicks ass
My 16yrs old self is really happy to be listening to this...right now. "I push my fingers into my eyes it's the only thing that stops the ache... " ♡ NEXT: Korn, Everything I've Known.
PLEASE do "Snuff" by Slipknot.
I’m almost disappointed you didn’t notice the beer keg being smacked by a baseball bat throughout. One of the coolest songs to see live, and bands really. Nine members all doing different things, somehow synchronized into a sort of controlled chaos that is unbelievably powerful to witness. Check out “Prosthetics” next for a bit of their earlier, darker side... 🤘🤙
"selkies" by between the buried and me. Geebz...trust me.
I was thinking Extremophile elite, but Selkies is a solid choice as well.
He'd trip over the outro(edit) and what they worked into that. 😂
Yes!! BTBM is a great rabbit hole to go down!
No no, Swim to the Moon. I want that 40 min video
Yeeeees!! More Slipknot! Love your content
You'll definitely like "Left Behind" off their album "Iowa". Still one of the best tracks they ever made.
Left behind introduced me to slipknot when I was 12, lol I still remember being afraid of the video but liking the song 😂😂😂
Wait and Bleed, Heretic's Anthem, Disasterpiece, or Pulse of the Maggots next please.
Dude, you actually pushed your fingers into your eyes as the lyrics started. 🤣🤣🤣🤘🤘🤘
Slipknot is so heavy, they need multiple drummers, including a percussionist and a concussionist.
😁
Did the wielding of the bat constitute the concussionist? Lol
@@jessicashenefield1546 yeah, if they don't hit the empty beer keg at the right angle it just might be 🤣
Great job as always! More Slipknot please!
quickly becoming my favorite reaction channel. How about some more Metallica? Something like Orion would be great. :)
This is the best reaction channel ever and eveeeeeeeeerr !
I don't really listen to Slipknot, but this song slaps hard.
You should listen to Slipknot
Yes Listen to them all their albums are great!
Fit For An Autopsy - Absolute Hope Absolute Hell, darkest song ever but so well put together
That’s the only one of theirs I’d recommend
How about doing some classic prog? Like Firth of Fifth by Genesis?
Love that you're getting started with Vol 3, I think it's their most accessible and still at times most brutal record.
The next time you need to do Headup by Deftones I beg you! It give me goosbumbs it's amazing, BTW you are awesome
I love Love LOVE Deftones but will 100% skip that track every time. Please any other song, but def hit up Deftones some more!
@@apairofpetducks6203 Beauty School or Knife Party..
No comment on the aluminum bat against the keg?? Great reaction, as always. Thanks!!
Do "from the sky" by Protest the Hero
Great review! Generally when I do pinch harmonics on the guitar I roll my picking thumb over and lightly touch the string directly after picking. Then simply bend the note to your content. :) I love slipknot and would love for you to check out just how raw they were on the first album. Give a try to anything off their debut self titled album. Some of the tracks off the beaten path really capture their appeal of being something different when they first started out.
And he did the full version-! Nobody does the full version!
Awwww, *&%6 yea, Senpai, do it to me
[....did I use that word correctly...? Senpai...? My bad if not]
My concern was not with senpai I'll tell you that
@@akhmedthemerchant4741 Don't hate the love of the 'knot
xp
One of my favourite guitar riffs - sweet spot 0 and 1 drop B with the pinch harmonics from two different guitarists; fantastic
Geebz is just messing with us... he's a closet maggot for sure.
"I push my fingers into my eyes" as he pushes his fingers into his eyes.
Decomposes 'Before I Forget', then says he forgets the name of the last song he did by them.
What's next?
Vaguely remembering dead memories.
Slippy!!!! So excited for another reaction to these amazing guys!!!
7:54: "I love that one-measure turnaround before the hook." Agreed - one of my favorite things about this song. Maybe not very technical, but this whole song is fun to play on guitar because of the rhythm oddities.
Just found your channel, subbed! Your broadcast format is super chill and it feels like a smart discussion about music without going over a typical listeners head. Great stuff!
This is the song that made me fall in love with pinch harmonics. Please check out after the burial - behold the crown. The most epic use of pinch harmonics ever.
Joey was the drummer on this, and he was a very talented guy. R.I.P.
Great song and great review. Thanks for hours of entertainment, Geebz. I really like how you take a song that I think I know inside and out, and then immediately point out all these things I've never noticed, which reinvigorates my love for the song. If you ever do a breakdown for a post-metal band like Isis (In Fiction is one of my fav songs by them) or Cult of Luna (In Awe Of, Adrift, Dark City Dead Man, really ANY of their songs) I would probably hurt my mouse hand from clicking so fast. Either way, keep rocking on!
Love the channel! Learning a lot from you and your followers about music and what to listen for. Thank you!
