My nephew had me sit in his car while he played a Slipknot song. He was a big fan of the drummer. I remember staring at the dashboard and telling my nephew.... "He can't be doing that without help. It's insane." Then he made me watch a video of one of their live performances. The guy was a GOD. I mentally asked for forgiveness.

This album got an entire generation of kids into death metal.
Slipknot is not generally considered to be a death metal band, but if you really listen to the riffs on this album they drew tons of influence from death metal records.

She is an introvert, very shy.....wont even bop her head at all. We obviously couldnt talk during the show....but when we left, I asked "well? Did you like it?" And just smiled and said yes, but when I asked if she would ever want to go again, she said very firmly "YES".
The feeling in your chest, the double bass, the energy.....a sea of pulsing maggots in a field. Locking life memories in. I hope I can see them one more time before they call it quits.

I got into Slipknot when I was about 14. A neighbour down my road asked me to water their plants while they were away over summer, but each evening I just went to their giant back yard, stuck on Slipknot, and moshed by myself around the garden. I always go back to that garden in my mind when I hear this song lol.

Of all the live shows I’ve seen, slipknot is consistently one of the best live bands. Especially the earlier shows up to around the Vol 3 tour cycle are probably the best shows I’ve ever seen for the energy and intensity and general vibe of the show.

Really appreciate you covering this and for the shout out to Joey (RIP). Since you mentioned the bass work, I think its also fitting to give a shout out (RIP) to Paul Gray. He passed a few years ago and was another founding member of slipknot. On this track he was doing a lot of the backing vocals and was slipknots bassist. Great job as always! :)

I was 11yo when i discovered Slipknot. Had my mom buy the album (slipknot selftitle 1999), because I was fascinated by the album cover ( the mask and jumpsuit). The first song of the album, after the 30 sec intro, is [sic], and my life was change, the song start with a massive percussion intro, it blew my mind away.

I'm pretty chill.... but when I re-listen to songs like this..... man. It all comes back. I just wanna punch faces and lose my shit. I think that's the sign of a damn good band.
