🎆 Chúc Mừng Năm Mới! What an incredible way to ring in the New Year in Hanoi! From festive markets to the largest drone show in Southeast Asia, this celebration was full of unforgettable moments. What’s your favorite way to celebrate New Year? Let us know in the comments!
I've seen it countless times but I always smile when I see VN cities and squares that have so many families with children, groups of teenagers and young Vietnamese, enjoying the atmosphere and feeling so safe and happy and FREE. Why is it so hard to find such a place here in the US happening on a regular basis ?!?!? I realize this video is during Tet but on regular weekends, VN cities are fun and lively too.
As a Vietnamese, I can explain some reasons. But first, please apologize for my bad English. We have tradition to respect our family and our ancestors. In the videos you can see someone burning papers on the street, that's mean we are giving (fake) money and properties to our ancestors living in after life because we don't want our ancestors hungry and get cold in the after life. When Vietnamese children reach 18 years old, we don't have to get out of the our home if we don't want, and also 90% number of our families don't want their children leave, because the parents don't want their child forget about their origin, and worry that they may become bad guys if they don't have good guides from parent, even if they are over 18. Young people want to take care their old parents too. No one is left behind even in hardest times, no one will feel lonely. So connecting between members in Vietnamese families are super strong. We will be together and share everything to each other, happiness and sadness. Vietnam government encourage people to respect tribute to their family. Because if we have good family, then we will have a good social.

As a Vietnamese, it’s a shame to admit that Vietnam could be more enjoyable if the people stopped throwing garbage everywhere, sold food with hygiene and safety. Unfortunately, this mindset passed down from one generation to the next and it’s deeply rooted in the culture. So, my country will remain a third world slum country for generations to come. Sad.

As a Hanoian studying abroad, I just wanna say thanks for your vlog. Vietnamese Tet holds a special place in our hearts and is somewhat similar to Christmas with its celebration and warm sense of togetherness. It's a crucial time for Vietnamese people, regardless of where we are. Personally, I've missed being home for Tet for the past 3 years, but watching your vlog has alleviated some of my homesickness and boosted my motivation here in Toronto. I believe many other Vietnamese living abroad might share similar sentiments while watching this. Tet is such a big and meaningful holiday that perfectly demonstrates the most valuable characteristic of the Vietnamese. I have been far from home for quite a while, so sometimes i do forget how fun it is to be there during Tet. Seeing this one now really touches my heart that even you guys are enjoying the atmosphere there. This is the reason why Vietnamese people that live abroad would only go back during Tet if they had one choice.
Aw, we’re sorry you have been away from home during Tet. We can see why it’s such a popular celebration. The connection of family is so powerful. We really did enjoy the atmosphere. Hopefully we can experience Tet again soon! Thank you for watching. 🥰🙏
Tet festival is coming up again. We have plans of going during the Tet this 2025. Would you say you had fun during the TET while in vietnam? Did you experience close stores during the tet?😊
We had a blast in Hanoi for Tet. Though, I will say, the day of Tet and the 3-4 days following, it was very quiet and a lot of shops and restaurants were closed, so be prepared for that. Western food is available and you can find some restaurants in popular tourist areas, but it will be much more quiet. It’s a cool thing to experience though!
Welcome you guys back to Vietnam. You chose the right time when this is the time when our traditional Lunar New Year takes place. The atmosphere was exciting, everyone was happy and joyful. The streets are full of people buying and selling flowers and Tet offerings, making it something that those who have experienced it can never forget

On Tet, when sitting together in the New Year story, people always have a cup of fragrant tea and a tray of Tet jam. Each family will choose different types of cakes, jams, and candies. Those are the "snacks" on Tet, both to entertain guests who come to celebrate the New Year, and to serve family members themselves.😊

And yea, haha, I’ve never tried to grow one, and started back in Bali… I don’t hate it lol. Not sure if it will stick around forever though. 😅👨🏻
Hi Mike and Ashley. I'm so happy that you are back to Vietnam for Tet 🎊🧧🐉🐲 Happy Lunar New Year. I hope to see you here in Vietnam next year for Tet in a different city as well. Here's my tip: People actually prepare and hype up for Tet at least right after Christmas ends. And you will start to see sign of Tet coming on the street: Tet music, plant, flowers, decoration items, traditional food, in many public places. The best times to experience the atmosphere of Tet is actually a few days before Tet because that's the most hyped time, as people are doing their count down day by day, and preparing to buy all the goodies for Tet. Then the second best times to experience Tet is during Tet, but you need to find a local family and experience it at their home.
Hello! We’re so happy you enjoyed the video. We’re thrilled to have been able to be back here for this holiday. It’s been amazing. We’d love to come back for Tet and experience it in different cities as well! We hope we can find someone who will let us celebrate with them in their homes. That would be the most amazing experience. Maybe next year! 🙏 We loved watching the city gear up for Tet, some of the clips in the video are from the days before as people were buying their trees and decorations. It’s such a lovely thing to witness. Thanks again for watching! We’re happy to be back!
Glad you guys had a good time. Try to make friends with the locals, some will invite you to their home and you can definitely experience how Vietnamese people celebrate Tết holiday (maybe next time) you can find some TH-camrs/Tiktokers who are probably willing to cooperate with you for videos. I remember you mentioned that you wanted to try some traditional foods of Tết, it is too late now but foods are available on Hàng Bè street. If you still stay in Hanoi, Bat Trang village is worth a visit. Try Trang An, Bai Dinh in Ninh Bình as well. Are you going up North? I recommend Hà Giang loop, check it out 😊
Thanks so much! We’d love to spend time with some locals, we’re always just so shy to ask lol. Collating with another Vietnamese creator actually sounds like a lot of fun! We’ve actually been to Tam Coc/Ninh Binh, it was one of our favorite videos we’ve ever filmed! We did go up north this time, we have a video or two coming from Sapa. We also went to Ha Giang and rented a bike to do the loop, but the next morning, it began raining and wasn’t due to stop for over a week, so we took our bike back and headed elsewhere. We will be back to Vietnam for sure. It’s stolen our hearts and we don’t want them back! I wish there was a way to get a year Visa and a car, so we could just cruise around and explore everywhere!
@@mikeandashley In order to stay longer unfortunately you will need to find a sponsor, for example finding a job and get a work visa. I’m watching your Ninh Binh video while typing this. You missed out Ninh Binh’s specialty - goat meat 😂 Keeping up with the good work, hope to see more videos from you guys and take care!
Aw, hope you liked it! And that makes sense! Perhaps we’ll try to find jobs in Vietnam and make it a home base for a while, until then, we’ll just come for three months at a time whenever we can make it work. We still have a lot to explore and we’d love to dive further into the culture there. It’s such a lovely place. ☺️🫶

Another great vlog guys! Tet looks awesome and the drone show so cool! And by saying street cows... is this a hint for where you will be heading next? 👀
I’ve been waiting for you guys to upload videos from Vietnam as I know you guys came back a couple of months ago. Regarding banh chung, get invited to a family’s home to eat it. If you buy it, you don’t know to fry it up and eat it with pickled veggies. They should be eating it for the next week, so like someone mentioned below, wander around the alley ways looking into homes and you’ll likely get invited in to share the food since Viets are very friendly and hospital. Or go to the lake and start practicing English with the students there and ask them about it - maybe they’ll invite you to their home to celebrate. Maybe ask the restaurant vendors about it and they may have some lying around they cans share with you.
Hey! ☺️🫶 We’ve been here on and off, but we’re with our friends, and honestly just took some time to hang out with them. We have some more videos coming from Northern Vietnam though! We actually met some nice people that invited us to eat Banh Chung, but didn’t get the chance to film it as we were just enjoying the moment! It’s SO good. They fried it up so delicious for us. 🤗🤗 Practicing English with the students is a great idea to meet new people as well. Thanks for watching! We’re happy you enjoyed the video. 🥰🥰
Some people will say that Vietnam's Tet is copied from China. But actually that is wrong and insults the creator of Tet. Tet was created by Vietnamese people... we have been celebrating Tet since 2879 BC from the reign of Hung King 1. Banh Chung and Banh Day are two types of cakes created by Lang Lieu during the reign of Hung King 6 1712 - 1632 BC (Lang Lieu was also the 7th Hung King). The Han people are the latest group of people to appear in Asia, and they live a nomadic lifestyle so they cannot celebrate Tet, which is a holiday of farming culture to welcome the new crop. - Another evidence is that Vietnamese people have DNA group Haplogroup O2 and no group O3... while Han people have group O3 making up the majority of their DNA and part of group O2... Haplogroup O is the DNA group that represents South Asians, Central Asians, Southeast Asians, and Australians... in Haplogroup O will be divided into 3 groups including O1 O2 O3... based on age, we can consider group O1 as grandparents, O2 as parents , and O3 is the descendant. một số người sẽ nói Tết của Việt Nam là bắt chước từ trung quốc.
Hope you guys had the great Tet. Vietnamese Tet brought you an unique feeling that you re hard to find in other places in the world. Thank you for your share on the Vỉetnamese Tet. Keep exploring a beatiful Vietnam and share it with the world.
Thank you for the video. Your smiles are contagious and it makes me happy. Sorry that you could not find any street vendor that sells Bánh Chưng. I do not live near the Old Quarter but let say you guys stumbled upon me on the street and asking where to find Bánh Chưng, i wouldn’t hesitate to ask you to come over to my house and sit with my family, instruct you to slice Bánh Chưng using strings, and treat you two with delicious slices until you can barely walk.

Một năm mới thật rực rỡ 🧧

It is such a wonderful holiday. We felt very lucky to have been able to participate, even in such a small way. Wishing you a Happy New Year! ♥️🇻🇳
Happy New Year. Can’t think of a better place to experience it. I’m excited for your new Vietnam series.
Hey Richard! Thanks for watching! We also think this was the perfect place.
Our new series will be short but sweet! We’ve been mostly getting caught up on work as it’s been quite cold and raining a lot.
We hope you enjoy the videos!
Chúc 2 bạn năm mới mạnh khoẻ tràn ngập niềm vui và hạnh phúc có những kỷ niệm đẹp ở Việt Nam xinh đẹp....!
Aw thank you! Vietnam is always full of positive memories for us. ☺️🫶
You guys say Happy New Year exactly like Vietnamese people do❤
Aw, that's so nice to hear! It took us a few tries, and we still weren't sure we got it right, so it's nice to know we did. 🥰
It’s such a beautiful celebration. It warmed our hearts to see all of the families gathered together. What an incredible experience.
Thank you both for visiting and experiencing a TRADITIONAL TET in Vietnam, please spread it so everyone can feel the same Vietnamese culture >>>> happy new year and good luck to you two you !
Thank you! And good luck to you as well! ☺️🙏
That sounds lovely (and delicious!). 🤗❤️
Oa, thank you very much for this video from Vietnam, Im Tom from QT Ha Giang, we met in Ha Giang
Oh man! That's awesome. We remember you. Bummer we couldn't do the loop, but there is always next time and we'll absolutely go with QT. Thanks for watching our video and saying "hi!" Hopefully we'll see you soon! 🙏

This is great. I’m glad you guys got to experience this. I’m a little jealous though because I’m Vietnamese who have lived in the US for nearly 2 decades and haven’t had a chance to soak myself in this atmosphere for a long time. Why our kids are a little older, we’ll make it some day.
Aw, thank you! We’re also so happy we were able to experience Tet! Such a fun time. We hope to come back for more!
Hopefully you’ll be able to return soon with your family!
We love you, thank you for experiencing interesting things during Vietnam's Tet holiday

__Statue of Lý Công Uẩn (nicknamed Lý Thái Tổ when he was crowned King),he moved the capital of ancient Vietnam from Hoa Lư (Ninh Bình) to Thăng Long (Hà Nội) more than 1000 years ago.
__May you both fully enjoy the happy moments of Tet in Vietnam, wish a new year full of health and good luck to you both as well as everyone in the world.
Oh wow! He certainly deserves that marvelous statue then! We hope you also have a lovely holiday! We’re so happy to be in Vietnam for Tet!
You are back in Vietnam? Love are looking healthy and happy! Both are very lucky to celebrate one of the biggest Vietnamese holiday, Tet, where is mostly about family. New Mustache ? Glad to see you enjoying my birth country.
We are! We’ve been here for a little while. Laying low, relaxing and getting caught up on editing and admin work. We will be having some more videos from our time in Hanoi and Sapa though! And yea, haha, I’ve never tried to grow one, and started back in Bali… I don’t hate it lol. Not sure if it will stick around forever though. 😅👨🏻
Hi Mike and Ashley. I'm so happy that you are back to Vietnam for Tet 🎊🧧🐉🐲
Happy Lunar New Year.
We loved watching the city gear up for Tet, some of the clips in the video are from the days before as people were buying their trees and decorations. It’s such a lovely thing to witness.
Thanks again for watching! We’re happy to be back!
People have been busy for a year, and sitting together with their families to celebrate the Spring Festival is the most beautiful thing
It really is. Tet is such a lovely holiday.
Chuc mung nam moi. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching! We’re happy you enjoyed it. ☺️🫶

OMG, when I come back to Vietnam, I'll reach out to you guys. Vietnam is such a great country to live in
Please feel free to ask us any questions! ☺️ Vietnam is amazing, we love it here.
Banh Trung is supposed to be eaten as a social/family gathering. It's shared in small pieces just the way we share the birthday cake.
Banh Chung not Banh Trung 😂
Oh interesting! Perhaps that’s why it was difficult for us to find!
Welcome back the lovely couple. Happy new year, enjoy Tet in VN, we love you both❤❤
Thank you so much. We missed Vietnam and are happy to be here again. Happy New Year! ❤️🥰
We would love to! So far, no luck! Maybe next year. 🙏
Ashley’s laugh is very contagious 😂 Thank you for the video, it makes me homesick but also happy to see Hanoi. Happy Tết holiday !
Ashley’s laugh is one of the reasons I fell in love with her! ☺️🫶🥰
We’re happy we could share some of your home with you! We loved being there.
HAppy new year🎉🎉❤
Thank you!
Excellent video! I just spent 15 days in Saigon during tet and it was awesome!
Thank you so much! We loved our time in Saigon. It would have been fun to experience Tet there. Maybe next year!

Phát âm chuẩn đấy😂.Happy New Year ❤
That’s good to hear! We’re always unsure! 😅😂 Happy New Year!
Practicing English with the students is a great idea to meet new people as well. Thanks for watching! We’re happy you enjoyed the video. 🥰🥰
Aw, thank you! And of course! We love Vietnam!
Beautiful couple! I'm happy you've visited our country!
Thank you! We're happy we were able to visit. Vietnam is an incredible country. ♥️🇻🇳
More like Chinese steal Tết from ancient VN.
This is really interesting! Thanks for sharing! ☺️🫶🇻🇳
Hope you guys had the great Tet. Vietnamese Tet brought you an unique feeling that you re hard to find in other places in the world. Thank you for your share on the Vỉetnamese Tet. Keep exploring a beatiful Vietnam and share it with the world.
