Appreciate the honesty about the FWD vs RWD conclusion. I've driven some fast FWD cars but I still prefer the feeling of a RWD car, even if it's slower.
Andrew - if possible it would be pretty cool if you guys kept a “leaderboard” of sorts for stuff you guys drive at tracks. I can’t even remember previous video times (I know you mentioned it in this vid) Like a ludnem, snap, Wakefield boards. So when you review a car it can be easily compared so to speak Just a thought
Got one as a daily/occasional fun track car last year as soon as they announced and have loved every minute of the car so far. I'm from a rwd background as well so has been fun learning how to drive fwd fast. Even after 2 track days at Wakefield I can get the car, completely stock into the mid 1:10s. Heading out to Luddenham in a couple weeks so will be interesting to compare to your video here.
Andrew, I've done the Second Cat and Resonator delete on the i20N and it unlocks all the pops and bangs just like it's big brother i30N. Honestly it should've been this way from the factory but it's a modification worth doing even if it's the only thing you do. Intake and BOV would also increase it's street presence and make the car even more obnoxious on the road
@@ljp1942 I hope you realise that you don’t lose the entire warranty on the car - just only on the part that you change/modify. Also you’re making a comment about warranty on a channel who’s target audience are *mostly* enthusiasts, who are into modified cars who *typically* don’t care too much about warranties and that is something that we risk doing.
Is nothing like a rwd, but is a very capable fwd car, have drove it many times in nurburing , is one of best hot haches you can buy. Has way better cooling ( especialy oil) and brakes than yaris gr on track
The old Clio Sport had a beam rear axle and McPherson strut front, and a slightly tuned 4 cylinder engine. It's all in the dangle of the angle, and a diff in the case of the 4 door Cerato i20N
I love how it's forgiving and this ham fisted driver feels confident in it's stability and predictability, a superb car for even low speed thrills without risking spills, and boy oh boy it's a headturner 😎😎😎
Although I think it's my personal pick of the N range, not entirely comparable to the RWD/NA cars that you mentioned. I think with that budget I would be going the 86/BRZ, given this is a compromised "daily" already - couldn't justify picking this over the the other 'pure' sports-cars.
Not sure I agree with the conclusion. For me FF is more forgiving in terms of maintaining control but less forgiving in terms of extracting fast lap times. The FR cars I’ve owned have always been easier at extracting the speed, despite mistakes having more dramatic consequences. 54s on the stock tyres was impressive, thanks for sharing this.
I wanted one of these before I ordered my BRZ. Biggest issue, can’t get one! Orders are backed up for 2 years and Hyundai have ceased orders entirely. Shame. Seems a cracking little car.
@@MotiveVideo Easy to do, with snow covered bump in mid turn. There's no substitute for a mechanical multi-link setup in the rear. However, for affordable weekend at the track, that I20N has the right formula... Much like the affordable Fiesta ST, here in North America, that they stopped making cause no one was buying them.
Not sure of the best time on a completely stock car, but just swapping tyres over people have done low 52s and completely stock Rallye's have done high 53s.
Hang on, at the end there, this is implying that the I20N is quicker than a stock BRZ around a track? whats making the difference? mainly tyre? the new BRZ has ~20kw more than this right?
I understand where you are coming from but at the same time they both excel in different things like for example the i30n is 30 seconds quicker around Nurburgring (I have no hate on the i20n i have a mate that has one and we track them together)
The good thing about all the Hyundai N cars is there's gonna be a hell of a lot of upgrade parts that will bolt onto my Veloster Turbo in the future. 😎👍
@@MotiveVideo Could you recommend any group or sources I could use for modifications on N cars? You guys have a great run down on the GR Corolla but I'm trying to find info for the Kona N.
It is incredibly competent no doubt but it seems to be lacking character or emotion (journalist lingo). From the review, it doesn't look to a special. For the price, it is a bargain.
Journos are often spoiled and used to driving much more expensive cars. If you had never driven 100K+ sports car and sued to cars under 50K, you u would love it
When did you put yours down mate? I've been waiting since March, had a mate put a deposit a week before me and theirs has already been here 2 months. Last week I got offered one in a different colour due to someone pulling out, even that would be atleast 3 months away from today. I just said no thank you.
It can do constant maps without over heating and has incredible lap times. Plus has lap timer and performance meters in it. How much more do you want? a roll cage and stripped interior? It is a hatch. The end.

It car by car basis. Most newbies struggle with oversteer but understeer is generally safer.
The suspension setup is very Renault RS like. Those cars constantly surprise on track also.

Question is better than gr yaris too. I'm getting an i20n for sure. 6 car garage be damned
Hyundai have looked at the golf Gti and polo Gti and said let’s make those but cheaper and they have done it
Are you able to compare it with a swift sport? 970kg 1.4 turbo. I wanted something japanese built, we paid $29,990 last year.
I've had mine since june and I love it, here in Spain we have some great twisty mountain roads, so funny! :D

The track tune and simplistic rear end will become a wreckage after one of our Canadian winters. Need all 4 wheels on the ground for the slick stuff.
On ice the corner speed wouldn’t be high enough to lift a wheel

Luddenham is tiny. It's 1.6km long with numerous back to back hairpins. There's nowhere to really use that extra power
The i20n has more torque once the turbo is spooled, whereas the BRZ power advantage would only be noticeable on straights.
i20 N's turbo torque slightly less weight and fwd has less drive train loss than rwd.
And lsd helps pull it out of the corners. The brz would be faster at smsp
If this is Australian, why dose it look like the steering wheel on the left??
I bet some mods from impossible fab will make it sound better induction wise 🤔😏
Hyundai are doing great things mate !
