I'm sure someone else will have explained. But Jean-Pierre Ferland (the man at the beginning) wrote the song and, in the 1970s, it became Ginette Reno's song. It's hugely significant in Quebec history. Ginette was Celine Dion's idol when she was a little girl, but they were never going to sing together because (in part) Rene Angelil (Celine's husband and manager) had been Ginette's manager before and it ended badly between them. Imagine being Celine Dion, who can do everything and have everything she wants, except sing with the woman who made her want to sing.
    And then this happened.

I would like all TH-camrs specializing in music to react to this music and I often write it to them in comments. But few do. It's a shame because everyone who did it is filled with emotion.
So really thank you for doing it!!

This performance hit you harder than I expected, but I'm glad it wasn't my fault. 😉
This concert celebrated the 400th anniversary of Québec and it was seen by 250,000 people.
As far as I could find out in the comments on this performance, the story is as follows:
Ginette Reno is a legendary singer in Québec/Canada. When Ginette Reno was young, her manager at the time, René Angelil (the late husband of Céline), offered her an international career. She turned down the offer for personal reasons. Later a demo by Céline was sent to Ginette's manager. That's how René discovered Céline. Unlike Ginette, she wanted to become an international star. The rest is history.
The song was written by Jean-Pierre Ferland, who was a very popular songwriter. It was a breakup song for Jean-Pierre and it became famous after Ginette sang it and made it her own.
Céline and Ginette had never performed together until this concert. It was an absolutely iconic performance.
The concert took place in 2008 and the video can also be seen on Ginette's channel, but without subs and with a lower video resolution. That's why I've sent you another link.

Ginette was the idol of Céline and of all Céline's family. The song was written by Jean-Pierre Ferland member of the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.

Great reaction!! The title means "A little higher". The original version is even better (with Ginette and Jean-Pierre Ferland). Ginette has one of the most powerful female voice I've ever heard. So much emotion in it when she sings. She's a national treasure here in Quebec.
Also, the translation was slightly messed up in a few places 😁.

Jean Pierre Ferland wrote the song. He is one of the best signer song writers of his generation in Quebec. He gave the song to Ginette Reno who popularized it in the 70s. And then Celine Dion covered it in the 80s, 90s.. so that's the whole connection there. Everybody knows it here. It's a classic.

Some useful context: The 400th anniversary of Quebec City in 2008 was an iconic milestone in the history of Quebec, marked by a year-long series of events celebrating the city's rich cultural heritage, legacy, and identity. One particularly significant and memorable moment was the special concert on the Plains of Abraham featuring some of Québec's most legendary singers: Jean-Pierre Ferland, Céline Dion, and Ginette Reno.
    The Concert
The concert, titled "Le spectacle de la Fête nationale" or "Le Grand Spectacle de la Fête nationale," was organized as part of the celebrations for both the Fête nationale du Québec (June 24) and the 400th anniversary festivities. This event was a symbolic tribute to the cultural identity of Quebec and a reflection of its musical heritage.
    Why Was This Significant?
    1. Cultural Unity: The combination of Céline Dion, Jean-Pierre Ferland, and Ginette Reno represented three generations of Québec music icons, making this performance a celebration of Québec's cultural continuity and pride. It was a unique moment showcasing the past, present, and future of Francophone music in Quebec.
    2. A Historic Location: Held on the Plains of Abraham-a site of immense historical significance-the concert resonated deeply with Québécois sentiment. The Plains are tied to the pivotal 1759 Battle of the Plains of Abraham, which shaped the history of Canada and the Francophone identity in North America.
    3. A Rare Collaboration:
    - Jean-Pierre Ferland, known for his poetic and heartfelt songs, was a veteran of Québec chanson. His track "Un peu plus haut, un peu plus loin" became an anthem of hope and ambition.
    - Ginette Reno, often hailed as one of Québec’s most powerful voices, symbolized emotional depth and strength.
    - Céline Dion, a global superstar yet deeply rooted in her Québécois origins, brought her international stardom back home to celebrate her culture.
Their shared stage represented unity, bridging generations of Québécois artists and fans alike.
The Performance of "Un peu plus haut, un peu plus loin"
One of the standout moments of the evening was their joint performance of Jean-Pierre Ferland's iconic song "Un peu plus haut, un peu plus loin." The choice of this song was deliberate and symbolic:
    - The lyrics speak of striving for greater heights and reaching further, a fitting metaphor for Québec's resilience and evolution over 400 years.
    - It united these three extraordinary voices in harmony, capturing the pride and hope of Québec’s cultural identity.
    Cultural Impact
This performance became emblematic of the entire 400th-anniversary celebration. It was not just about nostalgia; it was a powerful statement of Québec's cultural strength and its aspirations. For many, the concert felt like an emotional reaffirmation of Québécois pride and their distinct identity within Canada and the world.

Jean-Pierre Ferland (RIP) passed away a few months ago, he was the songwriter, he was 90. Ginette Reno was the original interpreter of this song. Céline, well, it's Céline, the youngest of 14 children. They are all from Québec, Canada, and this concert was at the 450th Quebec City anniversary. This song was more about "should have instead of breaking up" -ex I should have gone higher, perhaps you would have seen me more, I should have done more for the relation or gone further for it, we could still be together today. (about second guessing the broken up relation, in fact)
