We just rigged up the first Mercury V12 600’s where I work. I have to say, they’re even bigger in person. Absolutely dwarfs the 7 marine V8s and Yamaha XTOs. Still waiting on performance numbers though!
Marine engines are so awesome. You know the big drag racing specialty V8 shops that make the top of the line blocks and parts for cars that go 6 seconds and make thousands of horsepower? I remember hearing from multiple shops like that at one time or another that they basically make the most powerful engines available besides offshore boat racing engines. Now I get why. Boats take so much more power than cars. So much more drag from the water. But yeah that would always catch my ear when I heard the best of the best saying that actually there are better engines, but only for offshore boat racing. I would always think, yes, tell me more, that sounds interesting. So I'm happy you're making videos about them now. Apparently these are the most powerful engines can get for the most part for production engines.
I always enjoy your videos man. You always show stuff that I have never heard of or would never see unless I looked for it but I couldn't look for it if I didn't know it was there. I am so glad to have you back on TH-cam!
Again great video with great comments, Visioracer! Keep up the great work! Would love a video on why AMG V12 engines sound totally different from Italian V12 engines. 🙏🏻👍🏻
I had no idea there was a V-12 outboard engine - at first thought it seems like overkill, but if it reduces the number of outboards required for a larger boat it actually would make sense. I dig your channel.
In the hey-day of monster truck competition... before all the acrobatics... there was a Dodge van-based competitor called Rolling Thunder, fitted with a full interior AND a Detroit Diesel 12V72.
Car Industry: we need engines with almost no displacement and 3 cylinders to pass Emissions regulation Marine Industrie: thats nice here's our new Mercury 7 Liter V12. and you can have multiple of them on your boat.
I think that perhaps rail engines would make a good video, just speaking from my knowledge of British examples there’s certainly some strange formats and great sounds.
The MTU 12V 2000 engine is built in several different specifications. The model shown in the video is the M61 model, and that's the oldest and least powerful variant, it doesn't have the sequential turbocharging you mentioned. The models M72 and M92 do have, the M72 has 1400hp and the M92 1600hp. A horsepower figure of "only" 805hp seemed a bit low for me for an engine that size and sequential charging. There are also 2000 series engines for genset, marine and on/off road equipment use ranging from V8 to V16 with more different specs, actually all 2000 series are a Rolls Royce design.

The Doosan is the same engine as the MAN. You should have put up the MAN v-new generation instead. New block(from liebherr) and up to 2000hp compared to 1550hp out of the D2842 common rail.
Did some work once (replaced fuel injectors) on a big marine diesel made by Volvo... Very smart design, 30+ liters and 16 cylinders I believe... Was like 10 yrs ago so maybe it was a v12 but I think it was a V16... Had twin turbos that were something like 175mm... For reference, a 76mm turbo on a car is a HUGE turbo.. This thing had 2 of em... PLUS a clutch driven blower... The blower would provide boost from idle to get max power at the lowest rpm... Then at a certain rpm the blower clutch disconnects and the turbos take over. Awesome, awesome engine. I don't remember how much hp it made, but over 2000hp for sure.... And probably 3500-4000 lb ft of torque. Should have seen the size of the fuel injectors... Lol they were massive. They were more like a fuel nozzle lol and fuel economy was rated in gallons per hour instead of miles per gallon.... But it didn't do miles per gallon, it did gallons per mile lmao
