@@ajpyyz doesn’t sound like a rick at all, except the last couple seconds, I have listened to this again many times and I think this is the tear drop precision bass.
Wow, thank you! I am learning this song. Everyone is playing their interpretation, but you can hear the notes a lot better here and I am trying to transcribe it note for note, i.e. he goes back and forth from B to B flat @00:20
I don’t think he has ever said he used it past caress of steel but he always seemed to have it in the studio so I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s on a few tracks. In his book he said it sounded too wild to record.
I'm saying this one is his Rickenbacker 3001, sounds a lot like a Fender Precision but the midrange is a little different. But I am now wondering if he ever used his 4002 on a studio track? Be nice if somebody who owned one could say definitively.
Also if you look at the picture in the video, he's got his teardrop P bass in the studio. Who knows! Also if you look at the Hemispheres tour book, it says he is using the Ashlys which always made me think thats what's on the album but you can clearly see an SVT in the photo! Who knows. Also the tourbook isn't a studio equipment list, it's for the tour lol. I'm pretty sure the first editions came out around '78.
@@kevinsheppard2312 TBH yeah this whole album does kinda sound like the same basic setup as AFTK but with a very light touch compared to Geddy's usual heavy handed-ness, with the exception of this song. Funny thing is, this is probably the best bass sound on the whole album regardless of whether it's a 3001 or his P Bass.
See how the tone changes back to the normal hemispheres ton at 3:30 ?? I don't hear it on the original lol.
I'm thinking the studio engineer bumped a slider... just like he planned it. 😂
@@timothydukeman7619 love it lol
Totally hear what you mean! It does have a more mellow mid range however I reckon it might be his 4002 with its jazz bass like pickup spacing.
Fender jazz with neck pickup?!
I'm pretty sure it was a Rickenbacker.
Yep. He wasn’t playing the Jazz much as this point especially in the studio. This is a Ric all the way.

Happy you enjoyed it as much as I do.
Appreciate people taking attention to detail!
Took me maybe 8 hours to learn the bass part and 2 hours or so to learn the vocals, then about 1000 hours to put them together
@ 1:30 is the toughest part because you want to dig into that bass line so bad, but if you do you lose the vocals :D lol
OUCH...YIKES...
Does anyone know what tracks/albums the teardrop bass was used on?

Good of a guess as any!
