Moving Pictures Tones With The Ashly SC-40 (The Amp Geddy Used)
มุมมอง 9624 หลายเดือนก่อน
I can't wait for the arguments in the comments about what he used..... Truthfully, we can exclude Red Barchetta and The Camera Eye as those are glaringly obvious Rick tracks. As for YYZ, I literally got the tone so you cannot tell me otherwise. Same for Vital Signs. There's Witch Hunt (does anyone even care??). And the most controversial one of all, Limelight! First of all, it's a weird tone ho...

Exact Geddy Lee "Signals" Bass Tone With Ashly SC-40 | Rickenbacker 4003s
มุมมอง 2.3K4 หลายเดือนก่อน
Really happy with this one. The SC-40 is the preamp the Geddy Lee used from the Hemipheres tour all the way to the Signals Tour in and out of the (Le) Studio. I modded my 4003s to be stereo like a regular Ricky. Signal chain is as follows: - Stereo modded Rickenbacker 4003s - BRIDGE PICKUP into blue face SC-40 then into my Ampeg SCT-CL power amp, then into its respective 4x10 cab, miked with an...
Getting the '90s Alex Van Halen Snare Drum Sound
มุมมอง 2.4K4 หลายเดือนก่อน
This is my best shot to get that big 90s AVH snare Tone. I used a 6.5x14" Pearl Sensitone Stainless Steel Snare (Alex used a Tama 8x14" Superstar but this is the best I can do). Top head is a Ludwig Silver dot with white gaffe tape under the head just like what Alex did. Resonant head is an ambassador as well as 42 strand snare wires. Snare is direct miked with an SM57, Overheads are Behringer ...

Here is my attempt at this monster of a song played by Arthur Barrow! I sought to make the most accurate transcription and cover available on the internet, and included tabs to make it accessible to more people. I used the AI software called Moises to isolate and slowdown the original bass stem and analyze it with a fine tooth comb. Respectfully, I've never seen any one play the 19/16, 21/16 or...

where do you get the mod?
@@chrischoir3594 made it myself! It’s super easy. I can describe it if you want.
I actually think that one of Geddy's best vocal performance is on "Take Off" by Bob and Doug McKenzie.
No song captures the feeling of a launch like "Countdown"
DO you have the DAW files?
@@chadroxx1 unfortunately only have the basic stems like this
@@kevinsheppard2312 Of all songs or just the ones you uploaded?
@ I’ve uploaded most of the stems that exist for NB. I might not have done ‘This Afternoon’ but I’ll have to check. I was particularly aimed at uploading the drum stems. If you want I can give the link from where I downloaded them.
Thanks for posting - do you have the lead solo violin part as well?
@@QWeirdness here! th-cam.com/video/dhWSg7h62Ws/w-d-xo.htmlsi=FVD2bAvlTqi-jgec
Is this and the isolated kick the vst ) (' sample" )part from the drum and the overhead the real acoustic drum part of hte song?
@@PowerRedBullTypology It would be the combination of sample and acoustic! However they decided to mix them.
@@kevinsheppard2312 it sounds so synthetic here..more obvious without hi hats
@ Here’s the full drum mix th-cam.com/video/vHz0CAHp_wg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=kSeLWzC1wk_musW7
Vinnie, Bozzio, and Simon Phillips all hit their toms the same way back then. Dark, tight. Just noticed.
3:25 This is what I strive to make my Ric sound like.
Great job! Lots of fun!!
😂😂😂😂😂
This is when he was known as the walrus during that 78/79 tours he would randomly bark like a walrus throughout songs to the Delight of Frank.
His drum sounds so awesome on this album That's that old yellow Gretsch kit that he's using from the 78 tour that he used on the recording of Joe's Garage. His bass drum patterns are absolutely on fire. I love that Don Henley sounding snare. Late seventies drum effects.... in 79 some type of synth pads were being used by drummers!
I feel bad for anyone who doesn't realize the genius of Zappa and his various band personnel.
Nice work
where could I find these amps?
Your best bet is just to keep checking eBay (where I got mine) and other used markets. Ever since I started uploading videos of mine, they've kinda all disappeared 😅.
It sounds too sloppy for Geddy. It doesn’t sound like him at all!
@@wesjones565 This was taken from the Center channel 5.1 surround sound remix it literally cannot be fake.
Try to record a whole bassline in one take and without digital tools and we'll judge if your work is sloppy or not.
The one and only Chuck Rainey!
Time Stand next please!
@@dudleydinosaur7405 unfortunately they haven’t remixed that into surround sound but if they ever do, I want to hear it!
Amazing!!!
Is that bass a rickenbacker Or a fender jazz?

Wow!! Awesome stuff
Thanks!
i will say musicians that rolled with ZAPPA are top notch. What zappa is laying down is technically and sonically interesting keeps your attention
Gave the bass a little volume Boost.
2:47 so this appears to be an overdub of a second violin. Is the solo on another stem, and if so can you post it?
I'll see if I can make something out of the other tracks.
@@kevinsheppard2312 TY!! Been dying to hear that amazing solo isolated!!
@@Armakk th-cam.com/video/dhWSg7h62Ws/w-d-xo.html This is the best I could do. They mixed it into the stereo channels which had some guitar synth etc in it but it was still very loud. I then used an AI isolator to tastefully remove the extras. It turned our really good!
@@kevinsheppard2312 Incredible!! Rush and FM fans are going to freak out!!

I did not know this was Gilmore playing 😮
That's a Rickenbacker.
Definitively.
Was Geddy using flatwound strings back then?
@@DavidS-vs5mj He wouldn’t have used flat wounds here but he used to use labella flats I think in the late 60s early 70s.
Dirk!!😂
I hear a linear pattern.
It would be even more amazing if you added the vocal track.......
@@klaatuklaatu1 I’ll see if I can get a good isolation.
@ cool man… it so fun to play guitar with those Rush tracks that have drums, bass, keys and vocals.. It gives the fun illusion for filling in for Alex.. so much fun…
Alex Lifeson is one of my favorite guitarists, so I really hate myself for how much I love listening to this!
Just think...he actually sings while playing this complex bass and synths.. He's simply the best
Is that fret buzz I hear on high attack open strings? Not a bass player but this rhythm track is Level 11! Thanks for sharing these isolated tracks. They open up a whole new vista to the music of my youth and on.
@@Dobie_ByTor 100% it is! I find bass players are too scared of fret buzz than they should be. Of course you don’t want it on a guitar but it adds character in bass.
And he was singing too ! ! ! 👋
Wavy mood echoing serenity
Did Geddy use the Ashly SC-40 as a preamp to record this album?
@@asllanpizzatto7703 That’s right. Ashly into a BGW power amp and then miked 15” cab. Plus the regular DI neck pickup. I got the exact same tone and posted it on my channel with my SC-40s
Pretty sure they're in an all male prison at this point in the album if I'm not mistaken.
@@sarcasticguy4311 that’s right.
@@kevinsheppard2312 Good 'ol Zappa.
Double tracked or auto-double tracked, though?
This is obviously a Rickenbacker than Ged is playing.
With or without guitars/vocals, this grooves. I gotta work on picking this out. Edit: Kevin, any way to bring the bass fills there at the end more to the forefront, or isolate them from the synth? Thanks!
Really makes you appreciate the song so much more! Hiding underneath some very meaningful lyrics is this beautiful and fun instrumental that’s really reminiscent of their prog years
That 12" closed tom in the opening fill is SIIIIIIIIIICK!!!!

Wow... Thanks for uploading these! There is something the Ashlys (+ 15" cabs) do that all the Sansamps from the PSA-1 to the MP-40 just haven't pulled off. (The Sansamps are great for adding the extra 10% of top end zing, especially with new strings.)
@@peterCuneo-j6s 100% agree. They’re all great units but the Ashly‘s simply just distort different. It’s not even that crazy. It’s just the way it is.
