    Nice. Loved the Chris Squire/Countdown improv after 3:40. Really cool.

      Thank you - the bass is amazing isn't it?!! I was so fortunate to come across it a little over 20 years ago - plus I've had it tweaked and it's better than ever! Gotta get back into doing some more Rush covers! 😁

    absolutely glorious!!!! I couldn't give a f*** about the end. You are so in the moment, perfection........and I'm deeply jealous of that stunning Autumn Glo. 10/10 my hero

      Thanks! I've listened to this song and imagined playing it so many times it's become a part of me. The Autumnglo is one of those magic finds - I've owned it for over 20 years, and it was already 25 years old at the time.

    Even with the MP40 pedal, the tone is pretty spot on to the compressed original and its more noticeable when play it on the 2nd and 4th frets on the D and G strings that's close to the track! Also love that killer lick near the end!

    I knew you were using the MP40 pedal. Isn’t that thing great? If you have Rick or a decent Fender Jazz the tone you get is almost exact. You sound amazing and that is seriously one of the most beautiful Rick’s I’ve ever seen.

      Yeah, I blew it! I left it in though, I'm more about the energy than perfection. And yes, it's the SansAmp MP40 (limited edition version of the YYZ)

    Nice tone... what kind of strings are you using?

    • @hieronymous7
      @hieronymous7  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      DR Hi-Beams. I used to use Lo-Riders, but my tech said that the lower-tension Hi-Beams would be better to prevent further tail-lift. Yes it's a Ric lol - I kind of prefer heavier strings because I attack them kind of hard, but this bass kinda needs to be finessed

  • @kevinsheppard2312
    @kevinsheppard2312 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Awesome cover! How did you go about dialling in the settings on the MP 40? Are you using RoS?
    The limelight tone is quite an odd one in my opinion. Super super fat with lots and lots of compression but I love it!

    • @hieronymous7
      @hieronymous7  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! No Ric-O-Sound on this one, just both pickups, vol & tone all the way up. I didn't really try and duplicate the original sound, went more for a sound that I liked.
      It's been fun listening closely to the original recordings knowing what I know now. IMO Moving Pictures was their peak!

    • @hieronymous7
      @hieronymous7  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Although I have had work done on it, I believe it is as close to stock as possible. DR Hi-Beams - slightly lower-tension roundwounds to try and minimize tail-lift. I was probably technically better back then but I have much more confidence and perspective now.

      Hi Harry!!
      I'll bet you do!! You've got mad skills man and what an ear!! Your Phil is the greatest I've heard with my own two ears!!
      Do you also spend time listening to John Khan? I just purchased 2x K12s and have a buddy who'll build a Cab. Any suggestions? I'm definitely leaning towards matching it with a '67 Bassman and a Jazz. I've read Phil didn't play many 12" but Khan did and of course I realize there's more than matching gear for sound..
      But.. since your Phil is 😮, any suggestions??
      Thanks!!
      Lee

    • @hieronymous7
      @hieronymous7  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Karmakatt6 Thanks for the kind words Lee! I do like John Kahn - he strikes me as more of a "traditional" r'n'b bassist, though his lines can be kind of obscure too. I wish I had advice for speaker cabs, but to be honest, I have never had very good amplification!

    • @Karmakatt6
      @Karmakatt6 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hieronymous7 That's exactly how I describe him, more of a "traditionalist". I do love his solos and covers as well, which of course is in the nature of the JGB. Their 70s shows, man o man its fire!! I'll keep hunting for the plans for a good Cab build than!! Thanks for getting back and keep putting out videos!! We'll certainly keep watching them!! Have a good one and I'm glad I found your Channel!!

    You’ve taken the pickup cover off your Rick, but you left the “gap” there, around the pickup. You should buy a “treble bevel” to fill the hole and improve the look.

    • @hieronymous7
      @hieronymous7  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've seen those - the thumb rest is a cool feature but I don't play there. I have a cover there on my 8-string, and I really want to put it back to stock! I prefer the hole - like Geddy's back in the day!

    Nice bass sound! Geddy always seemed to have a thin, twangy, barely-there sound to his instrument. Great player, but vague and hidden sound. You're getting much more "meat" out of your bass, maybe it should have been YOU playing on their albums :)

    • @hieronymous7
      @hieronymous7  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow, that's a real complement! Listening to Moving Pictures now (35 years after first hearing it) I am definitely kind of puzzled by the mix, but it seems to have worked! It definitely needed to be Geddy, I'm just doing an interpretation of the master.
