This has been a popular video for sure. I knew it would be helpful. We moved up to the 6x8 in 2019. We got the first fiberglass version. We actually sold it a couple of months ago and just recently finished converting a 2018 Ford transit into a camper van. We loved our runaways, but we decided to go with a bigger unit that was self contain. We are still good friends with the owners and even attend Runaway rallies. Thanks for making these videos. I am a 51 year old widower who enjoys backpacking and camping but have been looking at small trailers which would be good and easy to use for myself and my dog. These would suit my needs I think. Great to also see you and your wife interacting and actually enjoying each other, it’s refreshing in this day and age.
Check out my newest video about the new 2020 Runaway Campers made of of fiberglass and PVC composite panels. Waterproof, lighter and NO wood. I have the first 2020 model - a RangeRunner.
I am not part of the Runaway Campers company, so I would not have any say on that. They are wisely, keeping it simple. A few options are available (including the Road Shower btw, awnings, decal colors, cubbies, roof racks), and that keeps production manageable. Those options do not affect the daily build process of many campers per day - I have watched many being made in the factory and they have their system down. When you start adding in many options that require different CNC routed side panels, wiring may change, etc. etc, then their production line would be daily disrupted. Instead, Runaway owners decide for themselves and add what they want, in their own way. If you look at amy of my modifications videos., you will see how much folks enjoy "making it their own". Really. So all of that to say - we each make our own Runaway our own "deluxe" version! Take care.
Thanks! I am DONE with tent camping and we just bought the new 2020 Runaway RangeRunner for more room. And it is now wood-free and made of a fiberglass composite material which makes them waterproof and lighter by 20%. Boom!
Thank you for the video. Brief and to the point on probably the most common questions. I'm sold on the idea now if I could only get my wife to like it.
Am considering to buy a runaway camper in the future. Since I am 6 ft tall and large frame ( 260 lbs ). I haven’t decided which size yet ha but I might get a big dog like German shepherd for a reason cuz I am deaf. So the dog can be my alert if we are inside by hearing things outside. Or I can add mini security cams on all sides with a small tablet. I have many options to think 🤔 ha. Wonder why they didn’t make 5x8 ? It would be perfect for me cuz it the middle between those two current models. I don’t care about the back kitchen like the teardrops but I love outdoor cooking on fire or butane stove. Still simple lol. Thanks and I do enjoy your videos!!
Donald R. Stewart They just can’t make every size to pleaser everyone and stay a streamlined small company. I just posted a video about the new no wood, all fiberglass composite models that weigh 20% less. Get the 6x8 and you will love it!!
We enjoyed our 6x8, but we will likely not camp in it anymore since we are doing the van conversion. Our grandkids like sleeping in it in the back yard and we might take it to a nearby state park for a short camping trip with a couple of them. They get the Runaway and we will be in the Transit. Runaways are great, but we decided we wanted more room and convenience. My Runaway videos continue to help bring in new Runaway owners and that makes me happy! Be safe - check the air pressure of the spare tire - easy to overlook - we did that and found it crazy low. And have the right wrench size to release the spare.
I'm still trying to decide which one to buy. One aspect of the 4x8 versus the 6x8 (for me, at least) will be the lane clearance for driving. I have yet to see a video including scenes of interstate lanes, and how well the 6x8 squeezes into that space. Ideally, I'd get the Rangerunner. Because it'd be me, and my 6-foot tall son, traveling in it. But the lane clearance is a concern.
I know many RangeRunner owners - and clearance is not an issue at all. If huge semi and Class A motorhomes fit in highway lanes, then a 6-foot wide camper trailer will fit very easily. Nothing to worry about on that issue. Check this video of mine - it may help you - th-cam.com/video/bwYtDDk810g/w-d-xo.html I think you would probably be much happier with the RangeRunner with your son. The CoolCamp is great for my wife and I, but it is a "little" snug - but we ARE crazy about each other! : )
I just measured our Grand Caravan and it is a little less than 6 feet wide. The van fits easily in any lane - so the CoolCamp and RangeRunner likewise would obviously fit too.
@@charlesmoman Thanks for taking the time to reply. I'll watch the video you linked... Given what you're telling me, the RangeRunner will probably work the best. In the near future, I hope we can go down to the factory for a chance to look!
And now we have the brand new fiberglass composite 6x8 RangeRunner and we love it! Thanks for watching. They are not for everyone, but it suits our purposes perfectly. This is camping, not RVing.
I have a Honda 2000 and it handles it easily. It is a standard house AC, I believe, but call Runaway to be sure. We rarely run it, but it can run us out easily!
Well . . . I am not a part of Runaway Campers - just a fan. : ) Maybe check on Craigslist or Facebook, you might find someone near you selling one and you could maybe check it out. Or call Runaway, they might be able to get you a name of an owner near you. There are several Facebook pages for Runaway Campers, and you might be able to join one of them and ask someone about seeing one. That's the best I can do!
They are sold in Ocala, Florida. There are a few dealers here and there. Go to Runaway Campers.com to see where the dealers are located. I am not part of Runaway Campers.

Nice vid. I would like to see if the two of you can move the range runner by hand (6x8) or what you would recommend to use when moving into garage, etc.
I have moved a RangeRunner in a garage and it was noticeably heavier, but I could move it. It would, for sure, be harder to move at a campsite, but many do it fine. Some use a a camper trailer dolly - look at etrailer.com or Amazon. It helps a lot if you learn to back it up well and then you can get it right on the campsite where you want it. It just takes some practice and slow movements. The two of us could move it by hand at most campsites.
@@charlesmoman Hello, I've been watching your Runaway camper videos online and have been contemplating getting one. I want something smaller that I can push into the garage for Winter storage. With that being said, and the newer RangeRunners being built from composite. What are your thoughts on being able to push the Range Runner vs. the Cool Camp? It appears to me that the newly built RangeRunners weigh about what the CoolCamps did when they were constructed of wood. At least that's what it looks like in the video "Which Runaway Camper Should I Buy?" Just curious what your thoughts are on being able to hand push the RangeRunner made from composite vs the wood built version. Thanks for your time!
And these are the old style Runaways. We now own the very first 2020 fiberglass 6x8 RangeRunner model. We just got back from a 2+ week trip to Colorado - love it. Hi guys! Thanks so much for presenting the videos on the Runaway Campers. I'm so intrigued and enamored with them thanks to you! I'm wondering about the corner edges of these campers. I live in the Pacific NorthWet, and have experienced real tragedy with the corner covering on my last RV. The corner coverings on the Runaway Campers looks different. It looks like it's just an angled piece of something or other with no screws or nails. What kind of corner piece is it? How does it attach and how do they keep water from seeping in?
I think my factory video should answer that: th-cam.com/video/hnPdSujVHvI/w-d-xo.html Also, call Daniel in sales - he used to work in the factory building them and he would be glad to answer your questions. Thanks for watching! More to come.
I watched them being made for a week - very well sealed. Owners just need top key po an eye on the caulking - you are subjecting your Runaway (or ANY campper) to "earthquakes" as you drive down the road.
Hi Charles! Love the videos, they've been so helpful. A question for you: I'm 5'7" and thinking of placing a cot or for a mattress. Think I'd have enough head room sit up on it?
I would think so, but I can't be 100%. If the mattress was on the floor - for sure. If the cot was not to tall - yes too. We have a bed platform and I was able to sit up and work on my MacBook Air.
I know many don't talk about t, but I am curious about the axle flip that sets the awning up a little higher. How much did it increase the height? Is there a difference in handling? It doesn't look like a difficult project but the clearance seems to be worth it.
Don't know if this the best way to ask a question but here it is: do you find that you have to level your camper often? Just bought a Runaway and trying to decide if i should get leveling chocks.
Since we flipped our axle, we seem to have to level a little more often. Look at my maintenance video with Leon for his tip about using the stabilizers. We have a set of the Camco yellow leveling blocks we always carry with us when we need them. Thanks for watching - more Runaway-related are coming. Blessings!
cute little trailer... my considerations are the price and the towing weight since I have a small vehicle. I also must consider my size since i'm 6'4" tall and am really worried I may not be able to fit in this type of trailer comfortably. do you have any suggestions on that concern?
tonyringtail The RangeRunner can hold a queen size mattress - I assume you would fit on that. The CoolCamp would work too, if you did not put in the cubbies and made your own shelving system. I know people your height have a Runaway. Call Daniel at Runaway sales and I think he will reassure you about that. We love our Runaway! Could you tell? 🙂
I was thinking about the rangerunner myself since it's still affordable and you have more room for company and storage.. i'm really concerned moreso about sitting up and not hitting my head. I have seen some people have the beds raised and I realize that would reduce headroom but being so tall I have to consider all issues.@@charlesmoman
Your wife is just the cutest thing and your adorable to thank you for Sharing. I personally want to get out of the tent and into a small trailer has to be something just for me. From the shows I'm watching that you put out a older woman could do this by herself.
I agree - she IS the cutest thing! : ) There are many single women - young and old - who have Runaways. Some even have the larger 6x8 RangeRunner, but the 4x8 CoolCamp or even the 4x6 Slice are easier for one person to handle - IF you are good at not bringing the "kitchen sink" with you. It is all about organizing well and only taking what you REALLY need. Good luck!
Any and all RVs can have problems with condensation. All of them. Air flow and movement are what is needed. We ALWAYS have a window cracked a little to allow air flow, if we do not have the AC on. If the AC is not one - we always run a small dehumidifier and it works great. Many use a bucket or bag of DampRid and that works great too. Especially with small confined campers like teardrops, Runaways, NuCamps, etc. are all little boxes and condensation will build up if you do not have a vent fan running ora window cracked open a little.
@@charlesmoman ok. Thanks for the info. I'm torn between the Runaway off road model or the Taxa Tiger Moth. I've always tent camped but my wife doesn't enjoy it as much as me so I figure something like this would be a compromise.
@@hollywood21639 They are cool. but they START at $13,000! And do you really need off-road features? And now we have sold our range runner, and are on the road right now to Colorado and our DIY Ford transit camper van. We love both of our runaways, but we wanted to do something different. Our transit feels like a luxury home!

I think my factory video should answer that: th-cam.com/video/hnPdSujVHvI/w-d-xo.html
Also, call Daniel in sales - he used to work in the factory building them and he would be glad to answer your questions.
Good to hear! Thank you for the quick reply. You and Susie take care
I know many don't talk about t, but I am curious about the axle flip that sets the awning up a little higher. How much did it increase the height? Is there a difference in handling? It doesn't look like a difficult project but the clearance seems to be worth it.
I would say it added about three inches and makes no difference in handling whatsoever. And my ARV awning room hangs better.
Always great videos thank you for your efforts
Thanks and more are coming soon!
Blessings!
Great video...thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching. I enjoy making them and trying to be helpful to folks.
Y'all are so cute! I loved that sweet little kiss!
Marcia Watts so cute!!! My heart melted when they kissed! I hope I’m like them when I’m their age
cute little trailer... my considerations are the price and the towing weight since I have a small vehicle.
I have seen some people have the beds raised and I realize that would reduce headroom but being so tall I have to consider all issues.@@charlesmoman
tonyringtail Check the interior dimensions I listed in the video and see how they apply to you. Get your tape measure out ! 😐
Great video ! .. very well done.
Thanks - more coming soon on each Runaway model.
Where do you get a 45x65 mattress?
The one in the video was from an upholstery shop. In our DIY Transit build, we got better ones from custommattressfactory.com
Good luck!
Do these have any problems with sweating or condensation?
Any and all RVs can have problems with condensation. All of them. Air flow and movement are what is needed. We ALWAYS have a window cracked a little to allow air flow, if we do not have the AC on. If the AC is not one - we always run a small dehumidifier and it works great. Many use a bucket or bag of DampRid and that works great too. Especially with small confined campers like teardrops, Runaways, NuCamps, etc. are all little boxes and condensation will build up if you do not have a vent fan running ora window cracked open a little.
Great informative video.
Thank you
Very helpful video guy's to make some decisions from, Thank you
What do you use to heat/cool?
It has AC standard and we use either a small Pelonis ceramic heater or electric blanket.
I love my simple Runaway because I am not on the ground anymore and the Runaway is a breeze to tow and it fits in my garage workshop in the back. But "happy wife, happy life" ! : ) The Venturists are REALLY nice and even better now that all Runaways are zero wood and now all fiberglass composite. Look at my 2020 Runaway videos! We have the #001 of the new 2020 models! Happy shopping!
@@charlesmoman I don't really plan on taking it through mud and stuff but definitely want to take the camper down dirt roads/logging trails. I like the idea of being able to if I want I guess. 🙂
@@hollywood21639 The Venturist would be perfect for you. You can add a lot of options too - that is not available with the standard Runaways. Talk to Justin at Runaway for that info. He is great to work with and the Venturist is his baby!
Love your videos! Wife and I are very interested in these 😃 We like the 6x8 width, what are your thoughts on the Rouser, With the Walk in door ? Thanks

Personally, I would not want to tow a tall box of any kind, but it is great for folks who might have mobility issues, but still want something simple. I like low and sleek! : )
Can a Toyota Prius tow a Runaway Camper?
Call Runaway for their advice though I know there some that do.
How much does the 4 by 8 way
They are now made of fiberglass and they are lighter. Go to www.runawaycampers.com/ for details. I am not part of the company.
Ok so we have to guess which one you got ? And would be nice to see your finished camper?
Tina Daniels Check my channel. Many videos about our camper and mods. Now we own a 2020 fiberglass RangeRunner. Several videos about it too.
3 years later they are selling it to buy the 6x8. I have a 4x8 too and am doing the same
And now we have sold our range runner, and are on the road right now to Colorado and our DIY Ford transit camper van. We love both of our runaways, but we wanted to do something different. Our transit feels like a luxury home!
a futton would work in there
That is what we used initially, but in our new 2020 rebuilt a bed platform and had custom cushions made. Many buy foam mattresses from Amazon and cut them down to fit. Lots of choices out there, Check out the new 2020 Runaway videos I have here on my channel.
Question for runaway owners.
In a scenario of terrible weather, would one be able to sit on a small camp toilet inside a runaway if necessary?
Joseph Thomas Many do that using a cassette toilet or homemade set up.
It just occurred to me that a coffin costs about 3x what one of these cost (and you don't even get wheels or windows)!!
You two are the Dang Cutest!!! 😍
We try! : )
I LOVE LOVERS .amen
We are crazy about each other - 40th anniversary coming in the fall! 6 kids and 14 grandchildren.
Prices ? 6× 8 ???? You show these fluffy videos
I deliberately do not show prices. This video is from three years ago and if I gave prices, then people complain because the prices are higher in 2022. They now have no wood or aluminum and are all fiberglass/pvc composite panels. Like any product, just go to their website. Happy shopping!
God bless you...
And you too!
Plus, you have air conditioning!
Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.
Lord save me from superstitious comments.
you are a lucky guy to have such a lovely wife
Agreed! : )
