  • Cliffe Knechtle has a great conversation with college students at a campus in the southwest US.
    The "Give Me An Answer" ministry began as an outgrowth of the dialogues Cliffe Knechtle has had with students on various university campuses throughout the United States. These universities include the University of Maine, Harvard, MIT, University of Florida, University of Texas, University of Wisconsin, University of Minnesota, University of California Los Angeles, University of California San Diego, Berkeley, Stanford, University of Hawaii and the University of Washington. Cliffe spoke on these campuses in front of the Student Union or Library at noon for five to ten minutes. At the close of his initial remarks, he'd open up the time for questions and answers, which usually turned into a two to four hour dialogue with students. His crowd size ranged from 25 - 500 students at a time, and between classes, new students would join the discussion. This was an extremely effective way to reach a large number of university students with the Gospel of Christ.

    I also love how generations of people have had their morals based on God's morality and now that we have reached a plateau we can honestly say that we don't need God to determine morality. We have climbed the moral ladder through the teachings of God and now all of a sudden we think we can kick the ladder away and stand on our own? ... silliness.

    I have one critique...check out the truth of the crusades...they were a defense against the muslims attacking the holy land and christendom of the east. They asked Rome to come and help. Not that people didn't do wrong things, however, the crusades were in principle, defensive.

    To quote Dr. John Lennox: "Life has ragged and raw edges. All of us in this world will suffer, feel pain and despair. The question, is there any evidence that God can be trusted with those ragged edges? And I would say there is evidence God can be trusted and it's this: the central claim of Christianity is that Jesus is God incarnate; his very name means "savior", he announced he was going to die for human sin. If Jesus is God and he died, what is God doing on a cross? One thing that tells me, at the very least, is that God has not remained distant from human suffering, but has himself become part of it. That's one side, the other side is also at the center of Christianity is an empty tomb; there is where the Resurrection is meaningful. If Jesus is God and is raised from the dead, and God really does love us, then ultimately God is a god of compensation. One day, when we see what God has done with those who have suffered innocently in the world and screamed for justice but there was none, we will be calm and at peace and will have no more questions."

    Except, Jesus' fundamental teachings says to love others as He loved us (ie, to the point of self sacrifice and unconditionally), to forgive and love our enemies, to serve, to be humble, to feed the poor and cloth the naked, to bear the fruits of the spirit etc. The truth claims are fundamentally different between Islam and Christianity. Islam says u have to work to get to heaven. Jesus says it is a free gift from God. Is Jesus reliable or not? is Jesus speaking the truth or not?

  • @Siscast
    @Siscast 12 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    He doesn't need our love. Why can't you understand that? We need HIS. God doesn't owe us anything, yet Jesus sacrificed himself FREELY to show us Mercy and Grace. This is the best news you could have, that you can be freely forgiven and made righteous even tho we don't deserve it. All it takes is humility to confess that WE NEED GOD.

  • @Siscast
    @Siscast 12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Obviously you don't understand the Bible or haven't read it in context. What did Jesus teach? What are the two most important commandments? Jesus was dying on the cross and forgave his enemies and He said about those who tortured and hanged him, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do." He commands us to love God with all our hearts, and to love others as ourselves. To love others as He loved us unconditionally. To serve, to forgive, to love our enemies. What did Jesus say?

    Modern science has proven conclusively that the universe had a beginning.
    Everything that has a beginning has a cause external to itself.
    Therefore, the universe has a cause external to itself,
    and one who decided to cause the universe at a specific point in time.
    That cause must necessarily be a person of unimaginably abundant power
    and unimaginably abundant intelligence.
    Only God fits that description.

    You are missing the key piece. Not only does Jesus take our place and makes us free and reconcile us to God, but he CHANGES us once we are born again, so that we are no longer sinners but saints. He gives us a new heart with new desires and we become new creations in Christ. God doesn't need us. We need God, and Jesus' sacrifice gave us the OPPORTUNITY to be FORGIVEN, FREED, SAVED, BLESSED, HEALED, and have ETERNAL LIFE. Jesus was a real person who walked this earth. Read the gospels

    When one says love god and accept god, that means receiving God's forgiveness of sins in Jesus Christ and acknowledging him as who he says he is. It's not a choice of deciding to love god and if we chose not to, then we are going to hell. We have already sinned and are already headed to hell. It's the choice of receiving God's forgiveness of sins and being reconciled, or getting what we ALREADY deserve.

    @pmuaddib12 Why compare the Bible to the Koran? You can't make such comparison unless you understand both. The Old testament is God's dealing with the nation of Israel, under a theocracy, for the coming of Christ. The nations in war against Israel were a nation under judgement and sin. Read the New Testament, read Jesus' teachings, and the sermon on the mount. And ask yourself if what he says doesn't make sense in light of your conscience.

    You didn't look at all of it. You're just dismissing it with a wave of your hands because you don't like the implications of it. Jesus Christ was God in the flesh, and died and was resurrected

  • @Siscast
    @Siscast 12 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    how are people from 2,000 years ago primitive?? Read Jesus' teachings. They are the most wise and morally true teachings EVER, that people STILL apply to, to this day. They are UNIVERSAL TRUTH. The Bible is not a single book, but a collection of books all written by different authors, time periods, and locations pointing to Jesus Christ. I thought you read it before, yet you don't even understand this? Show me a more historically accurate book in antiquity than the Bible

  • @Siscast
    @Siscast 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Jesus claimed He was the truth and was God in the flesh. Mohammad claimed Jesus was lying and was just a prophet. Read the Koran then. Read the Gospels. What is more reliable? Who makes sense? What does reality correspond with? Truth claims by definition is EXCLUSIVELY. They can't BOTH be True. I am just telling you to seek Truth. Read the Gospel of John. If you don't believe, ask God to help you to find Truth. Isn't that what all of this is about?

    When Cliffe talks about a little child having intrinsic value at about 10:00 minutes, can we not also say all animals also have intrinsic value to their species. Can it not be argued that us killing animals for our benefit is morally wrong?, what gives us the right to kill animals. We can happily survive as a species by not eating meat. Why not let animals live out their full lives aswell as us?

    • @bonnie43uk
      @bonnie43uk 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Charles Gable Not quite Charles. Cliffe was talking about children having intrinsic value and where it comes from. I'm sure from his point of view, a child's intrinsic value comes from God, I was just making the point that all living things have an intrinsic value at some level, and it doesn't necessarily have to be God given. I think evolution can give a good answer to why children have value.

    • @koklol2837
      @koklol2837 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +bonnie43uk Why does a child have value if there is no God? It does not have any value, its just a bunch of atoms that evolved from some chemical "soup" millions of years ago. Who cares? Why should you care about a child? It has no value, you have no value, nobody has any value. We are all bunch of chemicals evolved to the point where we somehow can speak. Who cares!

      @bonnie43uk 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Alexandar Ostojic I'm amazed you have to ask that question Alexander, 'just a bunch of atoms..evolved from some chemical soup' I don't know many people who would agree with that description, its funny, the only people who use this term are Christians to try and demean the atheist position it would seem. Its like you are cramming 4.5 billion years of evolution and what that entails, into a silly sound bite. Its like me describing the known universe as 'a bunch of stars', the reality is far far far far far more incredible and awe inspiring. It doesn't matter which religion you follow or even if you don't believe in God, every parent will cherish its child. I'm sure you're not claiming that only Christians will love their children, we are essentially animals evolved to a higher order, but you will find all animals care for their young. You could equally ask why does a dog or a cat care for their young?. I don't know of any atheist who regards caring for a child as a worthless exercise, we nurture them so they can grow into responsible adults and enjoy the fruits of life. Are you seriously telling me Alexander that if you found out there was no God tomorrow, that your life would become meaningless?, if you had children you would lose all love for them, and they would just become meaningless 'bunches of atoms' ?. That is crazy as I see it my friend.

  • @Siscast

    Why does it matter whether or not I was in Afghanistan? That doesn't change anything. Tell me then how Muslims in the middle-east see Jesus Christ in visions and dreams and are saved, when there are no Christians around. How does that happen??
    Another human being can't take your place or your sins. But guess what, you missed the KEY POINT AGAIN. Jesus Christ is GOD in HUMAN flesh. Only God can take away our sins and that's what Jesus Christ did

  • @Siscast
    @Siscast 12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Basically the same? You're kidding right? Jesus Christ makes more sense than anything else in the world, and He is entirely reliable is my point. Read the bible to answer your own questions. Just because you state something doesn't mean it didn't happen or it's true. Do you rather believe that we evolved from a single cell to the complexity of now, through billions of years of random change in alleles? So your life shows no moral absolutes, and no good, evil, intangibles of life such as love, justice, and forgiveness? Your stance is much more unbelievable than the obvious creation that is right in front of you. You have a conscience don't you?

  • @Siscast
    @Siscast 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Okey, if that standard doesn't meet up to your historical accuracy, please tell me of a single book in antiquity that is more historically accurate. If not, you are being a hypocrite with a unreasonable double standard. Why can't you see your own prejudice??

  • @Siscast
    @Siscast 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Your understanding is absurd, I agree. But guess what, you are completely misunderstanding Christianity and you are ridiculing something you made up in your own mind. The scriptures says we are given a free will. Free will to obey or disobey God (sin), to love or rebel (sin). People chose to sin, so God made a way to show mercy and grace, while satisfying Justice and His Holiness through the death of Jesus. Because without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness of sin.
