- How to Make Your Own Rich Histamine-Busting Lentil Sprouts is about making your own DAO - or diamine oxidase, a key compound for reducing high histamine levels often found in many SIBO sufferers. DAO is found in many histamine reduction supplements. Dr. Nirala Jacobi ND shows how to make your own DAO rich lentil sprouts at home.
DAO supplements are not available in my country. So in support of my histamine issues, I decided to source kidneys for the purpose. I have found lamb kidneys and I now eat one fried lamb kidney before breakfast every day. This has been a game-changer for me. All of my histamine intolerance symptoms seem to have faded away. It is one option others can also consider. Good luck!
Same DAO is not available in my country as well. What were your symptoms and how long it had taken you to overcome them? Thank you.
Best,
Sohail Qurban
@@sohailqurban8961 Hi! Symptoms: Skin issues: rashes, hives, Rosacea, flushing, psoriasis, etc... I've also been taking Quercetin, and cutting out junk food from my diet... The symptoms have now all faded away... It took a couple of weeks to settle down, but I continue starting breakfast each day with one lamb kidney. Hope you also find relief from your symptoms.
@@sohailqurban8961the effect must be immediate as per my knowledge. Mostly within few hours, also it depends. DAO suppliments can be taken just before eating Histamine rich food to completely avoid the issue, however in this case, eating directly a lamb kidney can be fulfilling in itself. To be honest, this is a good option when nothing's left but it's not the best. Most of the DAO would be wasted from the histamine in the lamb kidney itself, as if not fresh, it could have some histamine. Basically it's very inefficient compared to the suppliments
Green pea sprouts are the #1 Dao creators
Do you have a link or reference you can share that gives more info on that? Thx
@@TrishTruitti've seen this mentioned several times but would like definite nfo too.
That is fantastic! Thank you for this really useful information. Every blessing to you! ❤
The Indian satvic diet might help which also use sprouted seeds and lentils.
Thankyou Sooooo much fir this info. Im looking forward to my own improvement!
i knew about Green pea sprouts but good to know about lentils too. nice. ty.
Hi, Rowena here from The SIBO Doctor. Thanks for the feedback and hope you find lentil sprouts helpful!
Can I ask if there is a purpose as to why they need to sprout in the dark ?
I sprout lentils (and many other seeds) often but only mung bean need complete darkness. Lentils sprout super well in the light.
Is darkness required for medicinal purposes?
Thank you so much 🙏
Hello, thank you for this video - it has been incredibly helpful, especially the tip about freezing! One follow-up question for you: Can I dehydrate these sprouts and retain the DAO?
Hi, Rowena here from The SIBO Doctor. The research paper that this video is based on looked at fresh & frozen sprouts so we don't have information about dehydration although it is possible that the heat, whilst, could degrade the beneficial enzymes.
@@thesibodoctor
I left a post question on this. Heat dies destroy them. I suppose I should just use a supplement for my son.
Raw foodists dehydrate things at 118 or 115 degrees Fahrenheit to preserve the nutrients and enzymes. I'm wondering if that would preserve DAO.
Fascinating! Is there a study that this is based on? If so, would you please post the link?
Hi, Rowena here from The SIBO Doctor. You can find it here: www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0023643820301894
Great video very informative. Thank you.
Thanks! Great info.
Thank you soo much for the video, could you please confirm what type of lentil you have used in the video? There are many types and I would like to know if they are pigeon pea or chickpea? please confirm
Could I use a cottage cheese or yogurt container made of plastic as that would easily create the darkness.
How much do you need to eat a day
Which sprouts have high amount of dao and at the same time low amount of copper?
Lovely, thank you for sharing, i can't wait to be healthier :-)
Hi, Rowena here from The SIBO Doctor. Glad you have found this video useful and wish you all the best for great health!
Thank you for the information
Will the DAO still be present and viable if the sprouts are cooked or will they need to be eaten raw?
Hi, Rowena here from The SIBO Doctor. The study that this advice is based on used fresh & frozen sprouts only. Often heat does degrade enzymes so we'd recommend sticking to fresh sprouts if possible for the most benefit.
@@thesibodoctor Hi sorry if you’ve already answered the question but do we eat the lentils raw and how many a day or with each meal?
Do you eat the whole sprout? Or do we need to remove the peel, what about the lentil , can be eaten too or eat only the sprout?
Hi, Rowena here from The SIBO Doctor. You can eat the whole lentil!
Is there any difference in efficacy between legume-derived DAO vs animal-derived? I’ve had good results with DAO from porcine kidney but it is pricey, especially since my histamine intolerance seems to be here to stay and is getting worse (I’m 53). I noticed symptoms of histamine intolerance after starting the keto diet about 5 yrs ago. I lost 80 lbs but felt like crap the entire time and couldn’t figure out why. After much research, I figured out that histamine intolerance was the cause of my symptoms. I stopped the keto diet but the histamine issues continued. Avoided high histamine foods and felt pretty good but between existing food sensitivities and eliminating high histamine foods, I was developing vitamin/mineral deficiencies. Unfortunately, my symptoms are worsening with age, so I am having to take DAO even when not eating high histamine foods to keep my symptoms at bay. Anyway, just wanted to see if you’ve noticed any difference between plant-based vs animal-based DAO. THANKS!
Drink Stinging Nettle Tea with 2 days intervals for a week.
If the the symptoms persist, take a herbal laxative and repeat the process..
Peace ✌🏿
Have you checked into limbic system retraining at all? I finally had to turn to limbic system retraining and nervous system regulation to find healing and lasting change. I have been using Sarah Jackson’s Restore program. (There are many others including Primal Trust, Vital Side, Your Grateful Guide’s Haven, and more.) I’ve healed a ton. It’s been the biggest and best thing I’ve done on my healing journey. There are incredible testimonies, and histamine issues and very limited diets are often included in retraining recovery stories. @TheSingingVocologist
Have you heard of oxalate? This might be contributing to your histamine issues. Perhaps look into Sally Norton's work. I am sprouting green peas since lentils are high oxalate. I hope you begin feeling better!
My 16 year old has Crohn's and I was hoping to get some DAO into him. All of his veggies need to be cooked and pureed right now because I need to make everything low residue. Does cooking destroy the DOA?
Hi, Rowena here from The SIBO Doctor. Sorry to hear that - Crohns is a tough condition to have. The research that looked at the concentration of DAO in sprouts only looked at fresh & frozen sprouted lentils so there wasn't data available on cooked lentils. Heat can degrade enzymes in some foods though so you may not necessarily get the same benefits with cooking.
any proof that the DAO in those sprouts actually makes it to the small intestine, at the right time???
There is naturdao supplements i use for my son, he has gene mutation of dao. Also i never know how to count how much he has to eat either naturdao or these raw lentils(Bdw. I would do raw wrap with them, i love it, can tell reciept). If he can then handle even fermented food or now. Or citrus or tomatoes and so. Tomatoes are tricky sometimes they are not as high histamin.
Does naturaldao supplements help
Yep, but we do over all healthy lifestyle and when he has treat in restaurant without limits where he has some histamin rich food ..
Thanks ❤
I use alfa alfa, dose it have to be only lentil?
Lentils work the best.
Can sibo patients eat these lentil sprouts?
Hi, Rowena here from The SIBO Doctor. Yes, these sprouts can be very supportive for people with SIBO. If you are currently on the Bi-Phasic diet, stick to the amounts listed though and use red or brown lentils.
@@thesibodoctor tq for your reply.I have a another question what about sprouted legumes?
What about green lentils? Brown is difficult to find where I live :(
Hi, Rowena here from The SIBO Doctor. Red or brown lentils are the best but green can be used.
Use aluminium foil to wrap around the jar, much cleaner and easier to handle 😊
Hi Mary, Rowena here from The SIBO Doctor - thanks for the tip!!
Do you eat the whole lentil, or just the sprouted part
Hi, Rowena here from The SIBO Doctor - you eat the whole lentil & sprout!
how about other type of microgreens?
Lentils work the best.
Will juicing these sprouts retain the DAO or do you have to consume them whole?
Great question! We assume juicing would be okay, but have no evidence for it.
Hey friend, I've seen a TH-cam channel telling that juicing them is actually better because Dao e weakly linked to the structural cells of sprouts. If you juice them dao unlink from the cell making it's absorption easier.
Is the effect noticeable with every meal you eat them with? Are they safe to eat uncooked (you mention salad) - I ask because I sprout mung beans & I understand they should always be cooked before eating.
Hi, Rowena here from The SIBO Doctor. Yes, the effect should be noticeable (comparable to supplementation). Mung beans, alfalfa and clover sprouts are more commonly associated with incidences of food poisoning so you may have seen advice to cook these. Typically lentil sprouts are quite safe but do wash them a couple of times before eating.
@@thesibodoctor Bless you for replying. I'm growing them now. Just started following your histamine/sibo diet. Had success on the straight sibo diet & stable for a year but it came back like thunder when I started introducing fermented foods. Am now on anithistamines to help me get over the histamine rage - I never knew about this issue it explains so much. I can't thank you enough for your help.
Aren’t lentils high histamine though? :))
Hi Mark, Rowena here from The SIBO Doctor. It can depend on the type of lentil but as discussed in the video, sprouting them produces DAO, which reduces histamine.
@@thesibodoctor hi thanks for the reply. I’m pretty sure all lentils are high histamine though and seems pretty crazy to eat high histamine lentils to increase dao? Aren’t pea sprouts better? Although peas themselves are debatably high histamine too. Thanks!
Yeah good point @@MARKSMISCELLANEOUS
Do you eat the whole tendril? Including the lentil the sprout came out of?
