    Hi Howard😌🙌Yes, Coelogynes likes it wet in Summer. I experience the monsoons here in Japan. The best I can describe it is like having a cool incessant misty rain with 100% air saturation for June and July, then August
    suddenly can have a break and temperatures rise to 35℃ with high humidity. It's rather uncomfortable because skin rashes are common. The orchids need to be kept under trees or under heavy shadecloth or they will be decimated instantly.

    I live in Japan and the monsoon season lasts June and mosw of July. It gets very cool 20℃ / 15℃ and is 80% humidity. Thanks for the helpful growing tips. I have 3 varieties of coelogyne and looking forward to see how much they can grow this year😌🙏💞

    I wish it was possible to smell via video I think scented orchids have the most amazing perfume quite often

    Great video. I recently started watching your channel and really enjoy it. I love your greenhouse, and love that you provide so much detail about your growing conditions and tips to share with us based on your experiences.

    Howard I have seen these grow on moss walls so they can creep as long as they want. These are found very frequently in Asian forests too. Great video!!

      It's a really lovely species. I hope you do well with it. Last year the weather here, unlike in many parts of the world, was relatively cool and dull and as a result I only had one flower spike last year. They really need more heat than my greenhouse provides.

    Maybe the cumingii would do good in something like a bulb pan style pot but even in that plant it quite low, that way it will wander hugging the side and go around in the pot and new growth will stay in pot in medium, and maybe a medium it can dig into easier like moss and just water less. That way its roots don't push the new growth up and out of pot since it can dig into the medium easier. Probably tree fern fiber would work good but is so expensive most don't have it laying around. Could also just make your boxes with higher walls so it's lower in the boxes.

    fascinating coelogynes, the rochusennii is very beautiful with the twirling racemes. I've never seen C. odoardi before, looks like a very nice one.

    Hi, Howard. Congratulations! Flowering of coelogyne rochusenii is wonderful! Oh, thanks for the care recommendation for coelogyne odoardi. It is very useful.

    Добрый день. Было бы интересно посмотреть выпуск полностью посвящённый вашим целогинам. Сколько у вас их, какие они у вас? В чем сидят? Как часто кормите, прям всё всё про них. Заранее спасибо

    Lovely! You mean cutting the Cumngii older pseudobulbs for it to thrive better?

      mainly to encouraging side shoots to develop further back instead of just growing from the end

    Great video, gorgeous coelogyne blooms! I noticed you have a lot of coelogynes, so which one would you say is the best to grow for scent? I live in UK , London and wondered if you could let me know how you source these wonderful coelogynes (especially after brixit)?

      Best for scent in my collection are C. edoardi and cumingii but these are difficult to get hold of and not easy to grow. Readily available and with a lovely scent is C. nitida (syn. ochracea). Over a long period I've found plants from so many sources. Now, orchid shows are good, orchid societies are good (you should join The Orchid Society of Great Britain and a local orchid Society if there is one) and I've bought a lot of plants from Spicesotic Orchids who sell mail order.

    Hi. I do also have the C. odoardi. Mine has not yet flowered, but grows well, including roots. But I keep mine always above 20 C, since I have found it is a warm grower, like the C. usitiana, and nothing like a C. nitida or C. flaccida, who I just brought home from outside. I have mine mounted on xaxim and water it every 2-3 days in a grow-tent @70-80% humidity.

    • @HowardRice
      @HowardRice  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks. That confirms it's preference to be warm. My greenhouse conditions are borderline for warm growing orchids even if I put them in the warmest position. I have quite a few orchids mounted on tree fern (Xaxim). Some seem to like it, others not so much. Interesting that your Coelogyne edoardi likes it. Maybe consider doing a video or two on your orchids so others can learn from your results!
