Maiden Voyage of Mud Jon! Beaver Dam Mud Runners kit in action!

  • This engine has a huge learning curve! Don't forget to subscribe to my channel! I publish weekly fishing content!
    I set out to test my newly built mud motor build that I bought from Beaver Dam Mud Runners to fish in. At first I had forgot to turn off the choke. You need the choke to start this cheaper Harbor Freight Predator 212cc 6.5 hp motor. Once it is warmed up the choke needs to be turned off. This motor and kit really pushed this boat fast! I did find it really difficult to push the bar down to keep the prop in the water. It was also very noisy which is something I had expected. After showing the boat off to a couple friends I tried to catch my first fish in the boat. You will see the results at the end of the video.
    Special thanks goes out to Beaver Dam Mud Runners for making this amazing kit!
    Don't forget to 👍 the video and share it with friends! Please check out my channel's Community tab and About tab. I post channel updates, useful information, and lots of fish pictures on both! Thank you for watching!
    I encourage Freedom of Speech but please be mindful, respectful, and appropriate with your comments; otherwise the comments will be removed.
    I am not sponsored by anyone in this video. I got an amazing deal on the Mud Motor kit from Beaver Dam Mud Runners.

    Yeah these things vibrate a lot. It's the single cylinder. The big block have a counter balance weight that balances the engine much better. The v-twins are smooth running as well because the twin cylinders balance each other out.

    Get a 10' stick of 1.5 inch white PVC drain pipe. You can make 5 rod holders. Get some heavy duty zip tie straps and tie them to the vertical ribs of the boat. It will cost you around $15.00 total. They are super strong.

      This would work much better on a 16 foot boat! It was a little awkward to handle on my 12 foot Jon and I am a little on the weak side (need to have a good arm to hold it in the water).

    Gee I wonder how one of these would work with a torque converter on it?

    • @TNRVG
      @TNRVG  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Without having an actual transmission I don't think it would do anything. It would add a ton of weight too.

    • @southronjr1570
      @southronjr1570 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Panfish I am not talking about an automotive one but one that is made for a go kart. It basically is a transmission but is constantly variable like a Polaris atv. It bolts directly to the motor and has an output chain drive. When the drive axle speed is low it multiplies the torque available to the axle shaft and when it is higher it multiplies the available speed to the shaft. Look up redbeards garage or cars and cameras youtube channels torque converter install and you will get the idea of what I am talking about. Btw it only weights about 5 lbs so it wouldn't add too much to the set up.

      Fishing with Billy nice. I’m getting a 1232 next weekend but worried about the stability. I need something small and light for river fishing

    • @TNRVG
      @TNRVG  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stable is a relative term. Get the widest boat you can find at the length you want. While the Topper 12w was a fun little boat I would recommend at least a 1648.

    • @adamr9215
      @adamr9215 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The engine is a cheap, Chinese product. There are better mufflers around that can be fitted. The “fascination” with these engines is that they are air cooled and will run places where you can’t get a water cooled outboard. Look up prodrive mud flats and see what they do.

    • @TNRVG
      @TNRVG  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've seen the surface drives. They are definitely worth it!

    • @adamr9215
      @adamr9215 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TNRVG I love mine. It does the job it was designed to do very well. And you gotta love being able to plane out in reverse. See if Marsh-mellow makes an exhaust for your set up if you want to make it quieter and make more power. If you don’t run in serious mud and stumps, then you can route the exhaust down below the waterline to quieten it up more. Some people make a big deal about the noise, but unlike most outboards, it’s not in the water where is scares the fish more.
