@@grindfestoutdoors 6.6 predator/224 cc. Just got done trying it out on the creek. Motor is great but I'm definitely looking forward to getting a flatbottom instead of v bottom
I'd be very curious to see this test done with a tach on the engine too. I run a built 212, on a 1236 with 2 guys and gear (also a MN guy) and find often I have to prop down to maintain rpms for the weight increase
@GrindFest Outdoors giving your stock 212 a little governor love definitely helps too. I ran mine with the governor set to 4800rpm for 3 years, with zero issue, and all it required was drilling a new hole in the governor arm
Yes, I’ve just been super behind with doing TH-cam videos with my rigging company taking off. I’ve got the footage of the upgrade/install and footage of the testing. About 30% increase in performance with the stage 1
Thanks! I actually address that in the video. I had mounted my motor about 2” off center. This spring I’ll do part 2, after I do the upgrades. If aligning the motor doesn’t work, I’ll either use planning tabs or bend it
Great video. I am in the process of considering getting a Longtail to replace my 15 hp Johnson. My Johnson is barly used and in great shape. I am just not comfortable using & maintaining a surface motor . I fish on a creek with plenty little branches that lead to isolated honey holes. I have access to a river but will not venture to the ocean. I have two small Grandsons that I want to take out with me. I am 210 they are 11 and 8 years old. Top speed isn't a issue of me as I just like to putt putt down the creek and fish. My boat is a 14×36 aluminum Jon boat. Question do you think the 212 Preditor will be enough for my needs. I was thinking about the 13 hp. Can you give me your opinion on my needs. Note: I am new to power boating and not.looking to race abuse or test the creek or river. Just want to go where the fishing is less populated. Thanks for excellent video and presentation! Semper Fi
Longtails aren’t hard to maintain at all. The 212 (and any SD engine) is a general purpose engine. Just like in a lawnmower or power washer. Just change the oil occasionally and add grease to the shaft. The old grease will push out the bottom. (Most longtails don’t have seals). The 212 should push you and your grandsons about 10mph on full throttle. The shorter shaft is easier to manage than longer shaft. The small kit (this one) comes with 65” shaft (in video) and I believe an 85”. You can do a 65” shaft on the 13hp but it’ll have a harder time staying in the water. For your needs, I’d get the 212. If you want more power, you can spend 100$ and upgrade it. I have another couple videos coming out on the upgrade.
I’ve got great info from this site. My first subscription
Awesome! Thanks Brian.
Im putting my Beaver Dam together right now. Good info on the props!
Awesome! Which engine did you go with?

@@DeeplyDrivenOutdoors yeah. They work much better. I’ve got this motor on a Carstens bluebill and it’s okay, but harder to plane and only goes 12mph.
@@grindfestoutdoors I'm hoping to go with a 12 or 14 ft flatbottom but haven't decided quite yet.
@@DeeplyDrivenOutdoors either will run just fine. The 14ft boats weigh maybe 30lbs more at most.
Great video! Excellent information. Thanks for the time & effort. Subscribed.
Awesome, thank you!
Great video, Ive got a
6 1/4 " prop I'm going to try on my 12' jon boat
Give it a go!

I can get a mini tach for my next video. I’ll be doing the same test but after stage 1 kit. Exhaust from BDMR.

Did you ever add your engine upgrade parts?

Awesome video and great information
No way I’ve been watching your vids and I just realized that u sold me and my buddy rigs at game fair this year
Funny. I actually started the TH-cam channel before I made the Texas rig company. I just put way more time into the rigging company.
Need to bend the skeg with a plaining tab. It was pulling to the right hard.
Thanks!

Also love the rigs so much
Thanks a ton! If you want to make a profile on my website you can sign up for the loyalty program and I’ll credit you the 2% from your Gamefair order.

Thanks , proof is in the pudding great video

Have you tried the 7.5 with a bend in your skeg? Should help the prop stay in the wake.
The problem was that I didn’t have it mounted evenly on my boat. Was about 2” off center.
Great videos🤘🏻
Thanks James!
Where are you buying these props?
Beaverdam mud runners
I’m getting 19mph out of my 212 stock with 6.5in prop
Nice! What boat and load?
Mine is a stage 1 predator 212 and on a 14/36 riveted boat I got 23 mph last time I was out with a 6.5 inch prop.
@@FishingwithFro awesome! You remove gov yet?
That’s fantastic. Loaded up, or dry?
