Two things I really appreciated about your approach - ONE, the design evolved as you painted (the armor shifted into full-on verdigris) and TWO - you aren't limiting yourself to one set or brand of paints (use this paint, or any orange you have). Thank you.
That Is The Best parliament ever looked..... You remind me of someone..... Lady Space Patrol....... Maybe i'm just insane, actually i'm sure i am, my therapist said so. Never-the-less, loving the videos, even happier your a Canadian Treasure! Please lets see more of the coppery colour pallet!
Favorite bit is how “grungy” it looks, like they have been in so some serious battles. Its super natural and simple (in the best way) and is inspiring me to go paint mine. Ive been struggling to do my sisters army because I never am satisfied with how they look. Yours looks awesome, keep it up!
Wow! I absolutely love the colour scheme you chose for their power armour. The aging/weathering is top tier! Really great work Dana! You are representing Canadian mini artists big time. 😊
This video came up in my feed after I submitted my Armies on Parade 2022 entry. I straight away fell in love with your colour scheme and the innovative ways you threw paint all over the models. This is totally giving me inspiration for Armies on Parade 2023, and I want to make a commitment that the army I submit will be 100% inspired by Dana Howl. Just also totally different, in case you were worried ...
Im always a big fan of the paint job. But half the pleasure is the way those video are made. They feel new and refreshing and super inspirering. Thx Dana!
This is amazing. I've had in mind making a 40k army of space priates and scavengers (either based around gene stealers or adeptus mechanicus models) and this scheme is awesome! Huge inspiration. This has quickly risen to my top favorite channels!
Genuinely chuffed that you posted this I’ve been wracking my brains on how to do my sisters , I knew I wanted to do an Autumn theme but not how to put it to the model. So you’ve definitely give me some idea on where to start
Really love the bases superbly done. All the figures are excellent as usual many thanks for keeping your commentary to the point and clear. Keep up the good work love the videos
God I love the spin you put on these models! I know it's a longshot but I would love to see you work on something with black power armor, I'm a sucker for some Black Templars 👀
I love all your videos. I find myself often re-watching them just to see more of your beautiful color work. Thank you for sharing your art! I aspire to have the color skills you have.
Great video, the stippling and "paint chipping" advice has been very useful to me! Also, I always imagined the purity seals as CVS receipts that the Sisters didn't want to lose.
I have not dabbled in 40k or miniatures since 3rd edition. Stumbled onto your channel and after watching your videos I may have gotten the bug again.......Thanks Dana :) I will try and apply the wealth of knowlege you have given us to see if I can become a better painter. Thanks for the great videos and I so look forward to all your future posts.
You've really captured the feel of grim-dark with these sisters. I love your one-dot-at-a-time technique for the stripes, too. I'd love to see you do more sisters. They're my favorite range of models in 40k. Thank you!
More of everything please. Necrons first and Sisters for dessert. As usual, loved your delivery and humour. The editing and cut-aways add a great bit of extra flavour like salt and vinegar on chips (fries for any non-Brits). As a bonus, the hobby tips and tutorial are really great. You paint in a syle similar to my own, except more advanced and with more artistic insight as to colour choice, which makes it feel like I can really achieve similar results myself and makes me want to try to improve my painting! In general though I think the way you talk about and display techniques makes them seem really doable: unlike many other painting tutorial style videos, where it feels like glazing; layering; achieving light and dark contrast for shadows; etc. are beyond the ability of mortals even when they show you how *easy* it is. So thanks I guess and I'll be looking forward to more videos.
Your skills are top notch Dana! Your videos are entertaining and you always give me so many ideas for my own painting. These sisters truly are ready for battle!
Currently painting a custom sisters chapter heretically infected by Nurgle, their paint scheme is a fusion of Guy’s Makhiban Dynasty Flayed Necrons and these Sisters, Im super excited! Gory, Nurgly, Rusted Sisters, it’s going to be incredible! Thank you so much for the inspiration and incredible video as usual!!!
Really interesting grunge colour scheme for them, Not seen that before ! Of course we want to see the rest, you can never have enough sisters! Thanks for posting.
Nice work, I always enjoy learning various ways and interpretations of how to paint rust, beeing an ork player at heart. Also loved the highlight technique for the gun (among other items).
Charging “headlong in to a painting project,” sounds like a good way to actually get something done; mini painting wise. Unfortunately that isn’t really my problem right now. It’s more to do with not having the situation and circumstances conducive with an efficient mini painting production line. That’s what you need when you’ve got a lot of miniatures to paint . Or at least that’s what I feel works best for me? Also I don’t have enough Vallejo or Army Painter dropper bottle paints. Pre-mixing Agrax Earthshade And a darker colour is a really good idea! I do this a lot but I always do it on a mixing pallet so it’s probably different every time which isn’t good.
they're all schola progenium alums, right? so probably pretty advanced stuff. "A Quantitative Analysis of the Optimum Promethium Composition for Application to the Enemies of Our Most Holy God-Emperor with Respect to Target Density and Contact Time"

These look absolutely amazing. This is such an original colour scheme and I absolutely love it. I think I'm going to have to give this a go... once I've finished my pile of my shame! xD
I 'd love to see any Sisters vehicles or special characters - St. Katherine, Exorcist, Judith, etc.. they're all kind of intimidating (to me) models to start working on because I don't want to mess them up.
This video has inspired me to break my sisters back out and start painting again. well...assembling first and then painting them. 52 layers of orange later and they're look great!
I was just trying to figure out how to shade darker skin tones for some models I'm working on, so knowing that standard fleshshade works for more melanin-influenced tones is awesome! Thanks :)
Very nice, thank you for making it. I'd enjoy seeing you paint up one of the sister's vehicles. It would be good to see how you take a palette and then apply it to something with a very different form. I imagine the sisters units of the things on stilts would actually just look more like the figures you've just done and I wonder how it would look on a rhino. PS: You crack me up. You're hilarious and justifiably one of the community's most amazing people.
Thanks for sharing your unique take on painting these Sisters. Have you shown any tips/techniques for larger miniatures or vehicles? That would be my suggestion.
Dana!? Where was this two weeks ago! I've painted three squads of (old, metal) Sisters since then! ...Mine are "The Order of the Emerald Mantle", since they've got green-ish habits.
I have been trying my hand at darker skin tone and the reiklands flesh shade gives them that pop of life...also I find the browns I use then do dry a bit matte, so reiklands also adds a more satin finish.
spraying without a cap! you dangerous soul! anytime i put that much paint in my bowl it never fails to spill! Might be due to my spaztic spray style! Great scheme for the sistas!
Yep the necromunda look for the sisters works really well, and the white stippling in the guns is a revelation must try this out on my nurgely boys who also love a bit of rust. Yep let's see some more sisters stuff. Have you got some penitent engines to do?

I'd used a mini electric drill to drill the holes on the muzzle of the bolters of my Marines and the side holes on the flash hiders of 'em, looked better imo and was quite easy and no time consuming at all; was a good purchase that mini drill... speeded up cutting parts or things to make my own custom models or just change the tone of a mini.

my favorite part was when you did their homework for them.
Technically its cheating, but Mother Superior ain't buying "Squig ate my homework" a second time.
Hi Brent 😊
Order of the Blessed Rust sounds like a monastery dedicated to Saint John of Blanchitsu
Their weathered armour may be a demonstration against Pride, as they must maintain, but can never polish or paint, their armour and weapons.
Ofcourse we all want to see the rest of units painting! Sisters are one of the most interesting armies in Warhammer 40k.
Yes! More sisters please 🙂
@tbonbrad Haha I love that name so much!!

I also enjoyed “place of the gun where the bullets come out.” Technically correct, the best kind of correct.
You just have to appreciate the just f'n roll with it approach.

I'm into the idea that they're so down with the blessed rust, they're just using some as lip balm
The "Caution Tape" on the chainsword is a great touch. I can't wait to see what you do with the other units.
The chipped paint technique looked really great on the chainsword. Good vid
