I have been struggling to find what order I wanted to go with, really wanted to do sacred rose but was terrified to do white armor. Followed along with this video and I was able to reproduce about the same quality as was shone here thanks to you. Much appreciated man.
I currently play Custodies and sisters of silence, but my partner is playing Sisters and we both agree this would be the best!! Just from the painting i am so excited to paint them!! thank yo so much for sharing with us!!!
I use Gravelord Grey Speedpaint for the boltgun and it comes out really good without the metallic shine. Then I can use gunmetal for the barrel and magazine to separate the stock from the external parts.
Ooh! Have fun. :D Make sure to stop in at a Z service station and pick up a mince and cheese pie while you're there! It's a small thing, but best road snacks you'll ever have.
I'm using Contrast Medium with my current mix of Marine Juice. I like it better than Lahmian Medium because you get the same thinning of the paint but you also get some of the contrast paint properties. It really contracts back into the recesses and leaves the flat surfaces a bit less shaded.
That is really nicely done, I'm thinking this could work quite well for Imperial stormtroopers for SW: Legion as well. I've never heard of "marine juice" before, might have to mix up some for myself! Thank you and happy painting!
yes, eventually I need to do my storm troopers for imperial assault and looking at them, you're best just going with a white primer, glossy finish and maybe the mildest of shading
Very neat, I use GW Apothecary White for base, but your method surely works better for armours, logically shading on a surcoat it's different . It's a pity that GW stopped selling single figures as in the past, except for some (very costly) characters.
I think if you want to reduce some time/get a different color out of the boltgun, when you do the black grey layer, you could also just throw that on the bolter. I prefer a dark undercoat for metal like that and it could save some time on a second coat there. Did you try/consider that and decide against it or just not something you thought was necessary?
I've found that Iron Hands Steel - and most metallics, really - will still need a second coat even over black to get a smooth, solid finish to them. It doesn't really save any time to put down the black or black grey on the bolter first, versus just putting a couple coats of metal on it over the white. The end result is more or less the same, and saves that fractional amount of time. It adds up across an army!
In your experience would this technique work well for a bunch of white coats/cloth? I'm trying to decide how to do some 20mm Finns in snowsuits for WW2 and have been looking at various quick white approaches.
I'm sure it'd work fine, but the point in this method is having everything shaded using the same all-over wash to save time. Soulblight Grey would give a much cleaner, slightly lighter finish, I'd guess.
Where did you get the stickers for the sisters of rose? Is there a set they come with? I currently am building some and this was the exact guide I needed to see thank you!
It'll almost certainly work just the same. I like to use the makeup brushes since it's a little harder to go overboard, but a drybrush is a drybrush as long as you're not applying too much paint at a time.
Probably, but it's far quicker to just *dry* drybrush and let the varnish cover up the chalkiness if it emerges. Wetting your drybrush is another step where things can get out of hand and go sideways.
Is it allowed to have a love hate distance relationship with you? I love the easyness of the painting and the great outcome, but i hate that i usually end up doing my own painting in a way difficulter (yes it's a correct word) way.. keep up the fantastic videos!
I've done black power armour a few times by now, too! 😅 The Deathwatch guide is probably the closest to how I see Dark Angels - none of the blue tint you see in some black armour, all monochrome and sinister.
I do not understand how people can put metalics over white and get it looking alright. Whenever I do it it ends up very dull and as if the white eats up the metalic shine. So now I always pre paint it black for metals and brown for gold since I’ve gotten tired of sad looking metal colors :(
Anytime you put something white on the table your opponent will say, "woah, that's clean!" This is a law of the universe.
Truth!
I couldn't help laughing to myself when you applied the wash of "Nun Oil."

That looks so good. I especially love how the black looks, it has a leather like sheen to it.

Dry brush-tastic. Can’t beat a good quick scheme.
"its not perfect"

what a chad.
Well, the video does have the benefit of being edited for brevity - it doesn't cut away quite that often in reality!
this is exactly what I needed to see, as I plan on doing my sisters in the livery of the Sacred Rose.
Nice! Perfect to watch while I’m on holiday in your homeland of NZ!

I’m doing the same, finding it works brilliantly!
That is a neat color scheme and gives me help on painting white. Thanks for sharing this tutorial, it was very helpful.
Thank you , Troy .
🐺
You are a really good painter, Sir! I started my modelling adventure with wargaming so i love painting any figures. Cheers.
Banging! Great tutorial as always matey. Might have to pick up some sisters now.
Thank you for making this video!
I’m currently following along. This is perfect for my noob self.
I have really struggled to make anything white look decent. Thanks for this valuable
and encouraging lesson!

Love it might need too adopt this for my knights of the ivory crown .
Gorgeous! I am staring down a box of Star Wars Legion Snowtroopers and have been wondering what to do with the white armor. This gives me great ideas!

That looks great mate, makes me want to pull out my old metal Sisters and use this scheme!
This may well have swung my decision to do my army in this colour scheme. Using this exact method lol.
Hey man just want to say this video was perfect after a hard day - and super helpful, thank you !
Oh, I always mess up white armor. Thanks again for another great video!!!
Great video, I'd also like to thank you for all your free STL files you create. I've gotten a lot of use of some.
Looks slick! That's a nice, easy, yet good looking scheme for the Sisters. Plus, you don't see that one as much as the standard black and red.
What a great result!
very appropriate to use Nun Oil for shading.
As soon as I saw "paint white armour really fast" I couldn't hit play fast enough it's likely to be part of my next project!
Samsies
All white, this is great.
11:46 What do you mean by "fine"? It looks perfect.

Learning about Marine Juice has been like learning to read Matrix code straight.
Now that's high praise. 😂
You can reduce the chalkiness by wiping the brush in a non absorbent surface, like a paper plate. Outstanding recipe as always!
Please Sir, a glaze of liquitex Transparent Mixing White (zinc white PW4) will remove the chalkiness after a white drybrush on the white armour.
So does the varnish. 😅
Is there any colder version of the marine juice? Maybe swapping reikland for drakenhof?
Great video, I wonder do you think could be used for Lumineth Realm lords?
In your experience would this technique work well for a bunch of white coats/cloth? I'm trying to decide how to do some 20mm Finns in snowsuits for WW2 and have been looking at various quick white approaches.
Should do. White is white past a point and with a slightly grainy, brown-ish recess shade it'll work for cloth in the field as well.
Have you tried Soulblight Grey as the shade for the white armor?
I'm sure it'd work fine, but the point in this method is having everything shaded using the same all-over wash to save time. Soulblight Grey would give a much cleaner, slightly lighter finish, I'd guess.

They should come in the box with the Sisters; they're part of the standard decal sheet.
@@SonicSledgehammerStudio is that inside the patrol box? It’s been so long since I’ve opened it haha
This might be a silly question but can you do the praxeti white drybrushing part with a regular drybrush if you don't have a makeup brush?
It'll almost certainly work just the same. I like to use the makeup brushes since it's a little harder to go overboard, but a drybrush is a drybrush as long as you're not applying too much paint at a time.
Would a slightly damp brush remove some of the chalkyness of the white dry brushing ?
Probably, but it's far quicker to just *dry* drybrush and let the varnish cover up the chalkiness if it emerges. Wetting your drybrush is another step where things can get out of hand and go sideways.
hello do you have a similar alternative in contrast for the first step? THANKS
Hello. Do you have any advise on how to get the silver armor for the sisters?

Can I request a video on HH Dark Angels? Or is there an existing recipe/tutorial you would recommend for them?

@@SonicSledgehammerStudio would you swap the Drakenhof for Nuln Oil?
