- How do WWE Wrestlers create their character or "gimmick"? Nick Dinsmore who wrestled as Eugene in WWE explains how the Eugene character came to light on Monday Night Raw. Rip Rogers helped come up with the idea of Eugene and then one day Dinsmore pitched the Eugene gimmick to Vince McMahon. McMahon decided to give it a shot and paired Eugene with William Regal on Monday night Raw.

I do agree I think Eugene and Regal should've had a couple more runs. I really enjoyed the Eugene Character and I hear the Eugene Character helped actual mentally disabled overcome their differences in life which I found touching, being I used to be on a Special Olympics team and you can say I was one of them and with the help of interacting with other teams. If anything I thank Eugene for that and for others he's helped.

Making a joke of yourself he mentally disabled is disgusting. “I hear he helped blah blah blah” no he didn’t and no he didn’t. And you definitely had to have anything to do with the special Olympics…or you wouldn’t of described the member as “them”. ..you wrestling fans let anything slide. Racism,rvpe,sexism,exploiting anyone they can…and plenty more. It’s disturbing…and shows what type of people you fans really are. You didn’t hear this character helped anyone. You made it up. And you know it. Just because they are disabled. Doesn’t mean they don’t know when they’re being mad fun of.

As a wrestling fan with a learning disability, I didn’t find anything remotely controversial about the character. To some, may be but for me, it’s an opportunity for people with the learning disability to put their mind to what they want in career. But for me, it is a “hope” that beats the odds of career limitation. I’m a retired pro wrestler and an aspiring promoter for a wrestling company in the central Indiana area! Thank you!
From what I can tell is that people wit ha disability are less mad about such references than people without some. There are exceptions, but at least that's what I can tell from my experiences.
It is nearly always like that. Same thing now with people saying we can't celebrate Christmas because we will offend Muslims, but the Muslims don't have a problem with it. There are just to many people who take offence to something that the people who should be offended are loving it.

I really related to the Eugene character in so many ways. The way he talked, the way he hyper focused on his passion of wrestling. The way he really felt like me, because I have autism and even though I've always been able to write and read pretty well, my speech was a lot like Eugene. So seeing a character that literally talked like me put into a position of success, really helped me feel like I could be something...
I never became anything, but the fact there was a character to give me that hope, means the world to me.

Eugene was such a great character. It was done in such a classy way and would have been great had they been able to fully flesh out the character. They could have even in the long run turned Eugene heel by showing he was faking it to get someone who could get into the locker room and go back to Uncle Eric with information about what was happening and any issues people had with him since the locker room talks. So many possibilities.
As an autistic guy i loved Eugene... It was never meant to mock anyone. It was an homage to one of Chynas fans (in chynas book she talks about the real eugene.. A kid with special needs)
I'll never forget the night on RAW Eugene cold snapped on the Evolution wiping the entire ring with them with stunners, rock bottoms and chairs😂Forever a classic moment!

Eugene has one of the best themes, it goes hard and his character was great especially with regal which made regal give that awesome promo on triple H about his bullying eugene i really miss that era

Here from Maven's action figure video. Vince had some good ideas at the time apparently. I loved the concept of Eugene and his ability to copy famous wrestling finishers. I think Hulk Hogan used it on his Mr. America character. He was a wrestling fan too that wanted to copy Hulk Hogan.
Eugene was probably one of the most OP characters in WWF/E history. Dude could just use other wrestlers finishers like it was NOTHING 😆
Eugene/Nick Dinsmore was one hell of a wrestler. easily in my top 10 technical

The only thing that I wanted to see with Eugene that we never really got was Uncle Eric having a change of heart and going face with Eugene. Always thought it would be cool having Eugene getting destroyed and Eric being pissed at whoever and turn face...if even just for a bit.

I saw this and clicked on it. I met Eugene (Nick Dinsmore) in my hometown of Redlands, CA. A very friendly man.
I do wish they had went a bit more into the "idiot savant" part of the character. Like, as soon as the bell rang, Eugene would drop the most of the goofiness and go full on technical wrestler.
I loved eugene he made me feel as though I could do this as he represented me. As someone with learning difficulties. I loved it

Nick, I know you give a lot of credit to the writers for making Eugene a successful character, despite the somewhat awkward premise. But I just want to say that I think you're selling yourself short, man, because I absolutely believe another wrestler could have taken that gimmick, and even with decent storylines, run it into the ground. Part of what made Eugene unique and special was your PERFORMANCE as Eugene - specifically, the one thing I remember Eugene for most in the years I watched him in the ring was the sense of boundless enthusiasm you brought to the character. Eugene was somebody who was legitimately thrilled to be here, all the time, and you sold that with every bit of word choice, tone, and body language you could muster.
