      If you want sad... the pension Roddy was talking about in that clip wasn't even from his career in wrestling because the WWE doesn't have pensions.
      It's the pension the Screen Actors Guild offered him for his appearance in films and shows like the John Carpenter film "They Live".

    Maven, I grew up watching you and the WWF(E) in the late 90s/early 2000s. Wrestling was so incredible back then. I’m grateful that you’re telling your story and give us these behind the scenes commentary on TH-cam, and do so in such an articulate manner (can certainly tell you were a teacher in a prior life). Listen I work utilities hopping in and out of holes all day I’ve had arthritis in my back since 20 I probably won’t be able to walk when I’m 55 and I’m not doing something I love. Being a wrestler is a tough life but it’s a life a lot of us would be willing to give up our older years for. Some jobs just require the love of it and the consequences aren’t that big of deal for a lot. Especially in the 80’s till about 2010 those guys were willing to do anything because they enjoyed the crowed going crazy. I miss a good chair shot to the head.

      You realize what is killing these men is concussions and side/after effects of long-term or high level steroid use. Concussions are always a risk. But the pressure fans (and Vince Mcmahaon) put on their physique is what makes them abuse drugs and destroy their hearts. Stop watching. It's the only way to save them.

And, much like yourself (as I find now through this video), I lost my mom only a few years after, too. Sad to hear we share that in common. Come on, bro. You’re totally going to make it to 65. It really made me sad to hear you say that and to hear the sadness in your voice. Piper lived a really hard life. He battled cancer, he had heart problems, he had a bad hip, and God knows what else. At the age you are now, Piper was in way worse condition than you are. And he was right… He didn’t make it to 65. In the same way "nobody is forcing wrestlers to continue their careers" (which is very disingenuous oversimplification), nobody is forcing WWE to treat them terribly and exploit every possible loophole to save a thousand here and there when it is a multi-billion-dollar company. I actually met Test once unintentionally back when I was a teenager. I was in Sacramento going to the movies to see Van Wilder. I was standing in the ticket line and he just happened to be right in front of me with a woman trying to get tickets for the same movie. I said hello and he spoke to me for a second or two. That was back in like 2001 if I remember correctly.

    • @xziggy_stardustx6786
      @xziggy_stardustx6786 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Losing Test was such a heartbreaking shame. Vince is weird -- like Maven said, he'll show no empathy straight-up but he'll do something overly nice for you out of the blue when you're down on your luck or going through a hard time. He and Bret hated each other for years but the second Bret had a stroke, Vince called him and gave him a pep talk and secured his DVD deal.
      I'm disgusted at how he leveraged his power so he could fuck his staff but I know that he cares about other people deep down and isn't a psychopathic billionaire. Vince is a genius who behaved like a scumbag at times and despite genuinely loving his talent, would always put himself first for the sake of business. Sweet comes with sour -- no excuses. The law has a very long arm ...

    • @vDeadbolt
      @vDeadbolt ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@xziggy_stardustx6786 with the situation between Bret and Vince, it was Vince's fault that the two stopped seeing each other eye to eye. He knew that the Montreal screw job would have pissed Bret off, so he let Bret land a clean punch to his face.
      It was the same situation with Kurt Angle. People like to play it off like the two hated each other when Angle left, but in reality Vince was trying his hardest to send Kurt to rehab and Kurt refused to let that happen. So he had no choice but to let him go.
      The difference between those two was that Vince still saw value in both of them and was devastated to see them go. Remember how he treated the Ultimate Warrior before his passing (even though it was deserved) or how he treated Hogan when he left for WCW?

    I tried to get into the business years ago. (I have a distinct look being Chinese, Japanese and Hawaiian) UPW (Cena was the Prototype there) accepted me but the 9-11 tragedy stopped the move in 2001. Had a match with Yuji Nagata and another with Dragon Gate. Did a Chikara event with Generico, Fire Ant, Eddie Kingston and others. Teddy Hart moonsaulted on my head. Almost had a match with AJ Styles. My FCW tryout was with AJ Lee and Adam Rose. I had a smackdown tryout where I helped a run in with Matt Hardy. It was a short run but my regrets are not getting to meet and learn from all of the wrestlers from that time.
    Much love to everyone on their path. I hope you get farther than me.
