I bought one of these Vivitar capture cards from my local walmart a few months ago. I did some testing with game consoles. The quality is pretty nice for a $20 unit. I also tested if the capture card could strip HDCP, I used a Sony BluRay player and ran the cap card through OBS and I was able to record straight from my BluRay player to OBS. It does strip HDCP for anyone looking for a cap card that can record encrypted content.
Great vid bro. Quick quesh, the clip on mic you’re using in this video, would you recommend using that as a microphone that’d be useful for a console streamer?
I know I’m a little late to the party but what what does it mean that it can Intake 4k but only output 1080p? What would be the benefit of keeping the camera 4k
@@DarkenedCyrus oh sorry I must have misheard, because on the Walmart app it says it only captures 1080 maybe they’re just advertising on the site wrong

How dare you saying clickbait is pointless ? When you say a 20$ product is better than a 120$ one, you will always have people watching the video. Without clickbait, TH-cam as we know it would not work.
Except that if you deliver on that click, then it isn’t deceptive marketing is it? It’s not like you clicked this video and then watched a cooking tutorial. Thats clickbait.

Interesting. What hiccups are you seeing? If recording in 30 fps, are you choosing 29.97 as the FPS or 30? Same for 60, 59.94 or 60? That does make a difference after some testing I've done.

I bought this after watching your video (thanks for the in-depth review!) BUT I can't figure out why OBS is not recognizing it as a capture device on my Macbook Pro M1. I've got my DSLR on video mode, turned on, card and battery in the camera, HDMI cable to Vivitar device to their USB-C converter, to the Macbook. I don't see anything on the desktop appear to let me know a device is connected. And in OBS, I added a new source for the Video Capture Device, but the dropdown does not show the Vivitar. (I've tried unchecking presets too). Do you have any ideas? Any thoughts much appreciated!!
@@DarkenedCyrus Thanks for the info. I realized I hadn't upgraded to Ventura and was hoping that would be the solve! Nope. Then I realized OBS already has another version, so I updated. That didn't work either. All I see are OBS Virtual Camera and FaceTime HD Camera.

You know they have Display port to HDMI cables, right? And converters as well. That’s the solution you need.
DP doesn’t look better than HDMI, nor does it look worse.

$20 vs $120 is a 600% increase in price
It’s actually 600% of the original price, but the original price is the original 100%, which makes $120 a 500% increase in price over $20.
A:Cheapo
B: Vivtar
C:Elegato
