Good Review on sharing many open different angle views.
    ...
My own experiences using 2 weeks Surface Pro X, and MS Surface Pro 7 core I 5
Before having MS Surface Pro X , I bought SF pro 7, it is working well and fast. After 2-3 weeks, I had to buy another one computer, I had to give SF pro 7 to my college to work continue 1 week for urgent adhoc many reports requested by customer.
Then I have to buy another surface for my parallel works on presenting, office and web browsing, traveling several places.
when I saw SF Pro X firstly open in Microsoft Big Event and later in the MS shop seller, I was very impressed on very nice improved design and functions of MS Surface Pro X.
Design look the best among the nowadays tablet, and smart ultra traveling notebook .
13” screen is good for views.
Quality of screen and sound and video were much improved than older pro version.
So, I have gone through studying a lot from Surface Pro X reviews, both on their MS own website and third opinions.
Most of reviewers, youtubers focused only performance and limitation on new ARM processor, those said many problems on negative about Surface pro X.
So I think, I should try and explore more details by myself on this Product, because...
I don't want to have 2 surface similar. I wanna try different.
And I believe inner inside that,
"MS team must have some good reasons to launch something new by new chipset with this ARM".
There should be reason good enough to go for ARM with this product. I like thing about starting of AI feature on this SQ1 chip.
“After hearing other, better to try with your own experiences.” ...
Then have to do my own test,
I went to the seller Shop to do the test.
I bring my SSD HD data containing many of files, that i regularly use to do my own real test at Surface Pro X seller shop spending almost 1-2 hours for all tests.
I am the one who usually do the works on MS office.
I do reports with MS word, one file size could be more than 100 MB.
At the same time I would do multiple tasks, opening Excel sheet picking up several data financial and analysis technical data several sheet calculating.
Moreover , I am doing at the same time opening 10-15 pages pdf file parallel with doing slide presentation with power point that containing tons of high definition of pictures and videos.
While doing all above I am opening many windows of web browsers,
    doing search internet data.
One can be email on gmail, one is opening youtube music for relaxing,
anothor one could be working on email,
another one monitoring stock and gold price, ready to buy and sell.
While I am testing, I open my presentation slide made of MS power point, that is quite big size of 400 MB. With lot of HD pic and Video embed on it to test the severe case.
All of working windows, I open through my SSD HD connected via USB C port because Testing SF Pro x at the shop is demo machine.
All that programs and open windows as mentions above on test are working very well.
While doing all many tasks on Pro X as all above I mentioned, opening 100 MB with MS word doing report, opening youtube 4 K, opening several files (excel, pdf documents, edge browsers surfing more than 10 pages web browsing ) to copy data to creating report, and also at the same time doing that quite big size 400 MB slide presentation.
Result is that, MS Surface pro X is working smooth without any problem, working fast, honestly to say that it is slower a bit comparing to surface pro 7 core i5 256 RAM, as I said, the one I gave to my college for working on writing reporting .
(I would say that Microsoft Pro X, at the shop, is the one that skilled seller just update lasted programs, software and firmware, I guess many things and problems were fixed.)
Web browsing and Movie on TH-cam are working very well with impressive quality.
    See clear on big screen,
Nice details with full High Definition,
Resolution is almost 4 K movies with fine and smooth through my eyes.
    .
The sound and movie are showing on Surface Pro X are very IMPRESSIVE.
The sound is not as good as iPad Pro , but it is really good enough to enjoy the entertainment.
The outlook of SF Pro X design is very impressive, pretty much beautiful.
The handling, carrying Surface Pro x is very suited for traveling people like me, while I am going out to give lecture and consulting to students and customers.
Due to the working style and my age, I don't mind much about gaming performance, because I do not have much time left for games.
I used to be a game lover when I was young, but after coming to some old age, I gradually fade off it.
Photos and Videos I usually take and work simply by iphone and ipad.
So Adobe Photoshop and A Illustrator or A Premiere were never used on this Surface.
But heard that in a few months, Adobe team is working on to develop those photo apps to be compatible on ARM.
MS Edge and Edge Canery developed for ARM is working very smooth and fast.
So that is enough support for me to choose this computer, MS SF PRO X.
So, I made decision to buy Surface PRO X.
New MS PEN is used for many comfort functions.
It is really work for noting, drawing very good ergonomic and smooth use.
    After buying,
This MS Surface Pro X had been tested, opening files, working all day and night.
Even I take rest sleeping, but computer had to be opened , because continuing work on many data files.
This SF had to keep running open to finish more than 3 reports, the Due Diligence reports for customer in 2 weeks. Each report size is more than 60-90 MB and has more than 100 pages.
So the long time test had proven its reliability and stability.
I would say this Surface Pro X is very best suited for me.
Nice Design, very lightweight, look smart when presenting work to customerss,
Good for web surfing and browsing data, watching movies in TH-cam.
    ...
People use different computers for their different purposes and experiences,
select the one that fit to you.
I do like one the Pro X machine.
When it is working such a long time, it is notices that this machine is not as heat as SF pro 7 ,
I think because of lower power (watt) used in ARM processor.
All above mentioned, I do love this MS Surface Pro X.
Its designs, functions, and features are very fascinating one.

Absolutely THE BEST review on youtube. Very informative with expertise. I kept debating on whether I should upgrade a few things with my income tax such as moving up to a note 10 + from my regular note 10 and from a Surface Pro 5 with LTE to a Surface Pro X and whether or not I should get a surface go or wait for surface go 2. I like to have a device that can do most if not all (office work, video and photo editing) without much compromise. I think i will have to pass on the pro x and stick to my pro 5 LTE. I may get a surface go as a secondary device because of the form factor (i.e. for work or meetings) not sure. I like the form factor of the new slim pen so I may purchase that also. Still debating on getting a note 10 + or not. Anyway, thanks for this review it was really helpful and look forward to more of your videos I love them so much!

Most of the programs like office 365, MS Teams, slack, visual studio code and many more have their online version and works at best speed in chromium based Edge browser. Many games are also porting their code to webassembly or JS which is also good.

Instead of using x86 apps, you can create apps from websites using the new Edge beta. Works for Teams and a lot of SaaS stuff out there. You'll get better performance and longer battery life by using the ARM64 Edge beta.

currently use a Surface Book 2. In the mobile world, I use Google Services mixed with about equal parts Microsoft. I go between Samsung Note and a Pixel but usually my camera needs win out, so I end up staying with a Pixel, even if I like Samsung's Hardware. Which, brings me to the Surface Pro X.
I had a Samsung Tab S6 tablet with 4G and it is a good device...great screen, surprisingly good cameras for a tablet and having DEX is an option. But my workflow never could match what I get in a desktop / Surface Book 2. So I decided to take a chance on the Surface Pro X as my middle ground between Phone and laptop.
Let me say, so far, I'm pleased...surprisingly pleased with the Surface Pro X...and I wanted to share general thoughts:
I love the screen. Best I've seen in a "detachable" Surface.
    Sound is excellent and crisp.
They keyboard feels good and backlighting is perfect.
The magnet that pushes against the screen to provide more support and hide the pen seems a little more flimsy than I'm used to on a Surface Device.
Tablet Mode seems a little more natural due to the screen size and ratio.
Face Unlock is super quick, faster than a Surface Pro 7 I used for a while.
Now some performance and experience notes
I've seen some lag but no showstoppers.
I loaded the new Edge and it works smoothly.
    Visual Studio Code works great.
    Office runs perfectly.
    Random Notes
Absolutely, anything that requires moderate to heavy 3d Rendering I've not been able to run, which is fine.
    Syberia
    Myst IV
    Obduction
Older and Lower Resource Games from GOG run splendidly well
    Zork Grand Inquisitor
    Kentucky Route Zero
    URU
If I want heavy gaming, I'll go to my Surface Book 2, Desktop or XBOX. But on the go, I want to play simpler and retro games.
Google's Stadia, as expected, runs amazingly well provided you have a good connection. I saved Stadia as an Edge "App" and it loads and plays in full screen.
I'm ready for XCLOUD Beta to come to laptops and PC's.
Popping in my Verizon worked seamlessly. And that's a good thing as Verizon with CDMA is usually the kicker.
I love my Surface Book 2 and will continue to use this but I really believe my Surface Pro X may be my day to day, on the go machine. I'm impressed.

I've got the Surface Go base model. I find it's fine for what I use it for (email, web surfing, office 365 and videos), however the battery life is quite poor for an 'all day device'. I'm finding I can use the device for around 3 hours before it needs to be recharged. Sadly this doesn't fit my needs as I am a uni student, so I think I'll be looking for an alternative device with longer battery life. Hopefully Microsoft releases a Surface Go 2 with an ARM processor, longer battery life and built in LTE by default.

I went through the classroom portion of grad school on a Surface Pro (2017), WiFi only - OneNote for notes, Word and PowerPoint, and a bunch of statistical software (Gauss, Matlab, Stata, R/R Studio) plus all the security nonsense required by my institution. Worked great. Works great - still using it. When I get home I dock it and it becomes my desktop. On a good day I get 9 hours of battery life - that's real life usage. (It'd get down to 6 with heavy Matlab usage.) Even though I'm on the train all day I find I don't need LTE. The SP(2017) does have an LTE option but that'll bring down your battery life of course.
I think the Surface Pro X would be a great choice if I were confident it could run the statistical and security software well. Thankfully the Intel Surface Pro line is tried and true.

I'm using my pro X mainly for office work. it's good to know that it's good for video conference, I don't do much conference, so never tried it myself yet. for battery life, I feel like, it's drain the battery too much, and sometimes it cannot last until all day, when I use office 365, which run through emulation.

While Microsoft replace them without question the warranty period comes to an end shortly, then life will get interesting. I half agree, a Go with an arm chip would be fantastic BUT it would probably sell by the lorry load and then be returned by the 1/2 lorry load as people find it can't quite run everything. Better to wait until more ARM apps available or MS crack x64 emulation, might run things slowly but at least they will load. I would hope SPX buyers did significant research before splashing out £1k-£2k. Personally I'm happy to act as a Guinea pig for WOA with the SPX as it does exactly what I want, not sure the target market for a Go would be of the same opinion.

    • @andybyard1154
      @andybyard1154 4 ปีที่แล้ว

and the other 1/2 of my response - The SPX should never have had the word 'Pro' in it, that should be reserved for the x86 line until such times as ARM can equal it in all things. I hope somewhere in the MS labs there is a Pro 8 waiting in the wings with all the bells and whistle (top spec cpu, decent battery life, LTE, instant-on etc) to meet the needs of the true Pro crowd (not the office/OneNote folk like me). I love my SPX but still recommend Pro7 to friends/colleagues looking to get a surface.

Try to find out of the are available to download as 32bit programs. If they don't say up front you might have to dig a little deeper or check on the support forums that are available for the software. If that is too technical (not everyone is a Geek like me!), it would be safer to stick to the Surface Pro 7.

And this is off-topic, but I'm wondering if you can tell me how to get Windows Workspace back on my Surface?! When I got it last year, if he pen was tapped once, on the right side of the screen the workspace opened up with a variety of Microsoft apps i.e. sticky notes, fresh paint and frankly, I can't remember what other apps. But now, Poof!' It seems to have disappeared. When I tap the pen once or twice Workspace seems to be gone and on the bottom of the screen what comes up is Whiteboard or Snip and Sketch, which can be opened, I really liked the workspace....any idea how to get it back on??????? Oh yes, I liked it the way it was too. It's now been changed and is just not at all useful. I suspect that this was due to the design of the Surface Pro X where the Windows Ink Workspace is launched every time you pick up your pen. My guess is that they were thinking that it had to be much less obtrusive of you were going to see it so often. But I think the missed the mark, and they should have allowed both options...

How does the Pro X work with Gsuite and Google drive?

    • @oztabletpc
      @oztabletpc  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Good question. I'd imagine that it should work well with FireFox or the new Edge on chromium. But Google have a habit of breaking things so that they only work in Chrome (which also works, but a little slower). Reminds me of old Microsoft. Perhaps someone else can comment?

      @BillyHarvey 4 ปีที่แล้ว

I use both and they seem to work fine with my X, also using Chrome Edge. I also just use the web version of Office 365, and it works well.
As another data point, though maybe more technical than most are interested in, for those of us who live frequently in the Linux world, WSL2 works well. Docker doesn't have a service that will run on the ARM64 yet (some people have compiled their own, so it's possible), so for that kind of development needs, it does work well to bring up the server in the Linux subsystem and run any natively compiled containers there.

Thank you very much for such a detailed review! For the moment, I decided to go with Pro 7. Due for two reasons: the Dropbox client for the corporate warehouse and the compatible drivers for devices like Apple Trackpad (no ARM version yet). But I don’t like the small screen, battery life and lack of sim card slot. So I would consider switching for Pro X or Samsung Book S in the future. The other Samsung Book S feature is that it’s compatible with Samsung Note’s stylus, which is really nice and lightweight. But Microsoft’s devices use different technology.
It would also be great to know if Pro X allows you to charge via an 18W USB-C charger (like the original Samsung Note 10+ charger). Because Pro 7 requires at least 30W, and this charger is almost twice the weight compared with Samsung’s 18W charger.
    Thank you again.

    • @oztabletpc

  • @andyH_England
    @andyH_England 4 ปีที่แล้ว

My issues with the Surface Pro X are not what it cannot do, having a 2018 WOA device I knew this would be an issue as it is a work in progress, the real issue is of its modus operandi.
The first is battery life and I cannot get close to MS claims, 5-6h on a good day, that is half my iPad Pro and most 10th generation laptops will beat it. That was the selling point and MS made a
    bad mistake here.
The second is onboard LTE. In 2020 this is no longer important. With 5g phones and tethering it is a much cheaper solution, no need for two contracts, in the UK unlimited data is cheap (£25 pm).
Finally, always-on. With Intels new ethos of getting all devices to sleep and instant-on, a WOA laptop has lost one of its major advantages.
So I am struggling to recommend the Surface Pro X. You will pay more for less with less performance, disappointing battery life and a lack of native app support. As a secondary device or an Enterprise based machine it works okay. I am not an aesthetics driven buyer so bezels or no bezels will not be a driver, but others may feel that is more important than the overall user-experience. I would suggest wait a year in the hope WOA has better support otherwise you may have driver’s remorse. I have seen on eBay second-hand month old devices selling at over £300 off suggesting low demand and buyers willing to cut their losses. THE Samsung GALAXY BOOK S is the next ARM based device to arrive and hopefully battery life will be more in line with expectations.

It's a chassis change. I don't think it's a money issue at all... I mean you can buy the Pro X. The Pro 7 did not have a chassis (or bucket as they call it) redesign - only one port modification. The tooling stays the same, and the production lines only have minor changes. As a side benefit it still works with the same cases, peripherals. There will be a chassis change for sure, but each product has a life cycle and the Pro 7 is at the end of one. Really only minor chassis changes from Pro 3 all the way to 7. My feeling is that Pro X is the new chassis and Pro 8 will fit into it... Just a hunch.
