I had been a Mac guy for years. Microsoft is slowly but surely building decent ecosystem...especially for gaming. Having Gamepass Ultimate access on my PC, Xbox, tablet and phone is something else.
I've always wanted to move to all in one device (like the Surface Pro) but I just know I'll end up getting frustrated at the limitations. I appreciate hearing from someone who actually uses these devices not just reviews them without actually working on them.

I watched both videos. This makes me understand and appreciate more how different the shopping mentality of people from the US and other areas in the world compare to the rest. It's probably good for the economy to change PCs two times a year. It's all cool. But the gap between my part of the world is making me jalouse. Unfortunately, I tend to buy a PC or tablet or a phone for at least 5 years of use. And stay out of experimenting with products just to be on the safe side.

Started watching your channel today because the video about selling your hardware gear was recommended to me.

If Microsoft had spent time building out the Surface Pro line with really good 'tablet' touch functionality it wouldn't be close against Apple. Something similar to Dex Mode for a Surface. Here is the thing, I can get the Surface pro 8 now at under $700 with i5, 8gb ram and 128gb ssd, I want a computer that can do all the basic level stuff, documents/presentations/media consumption comfortably while leaving performance headroom for things like 1080p video editing and photo editing and, this is extremely important, I want the device to last Atleast 5 years, it does not need to be a monster performer for the next 5 years, but it has to be able to do all the basic work, without breaking down And keep decent battery life through this time, like 4-6 hrs on a single change towards the end of its life would be great. Hey!
Your old video helped me make the decision, and I bought a secondhand Surface Pro 5 this week. For reference I am downgrading from a MacBook Pro M1 16GB 256GB SSD.
I want to run my business (engine tuning) and make music on one device, which would limit me using teamviewer from my iPad to the windows laptop that I previously owned.
I make simple trap beats, and although I couldn't import my own VST it didn't stop me from importing the individual sounds.
I used the internal speakers and keyboard to make my first beat on the Surface Pro 5 and it worked! Admittedly the audio quality over headphones isn't as good as the MacBook. An audio interface should help, and I'll probably get a little Rode AI Micro - I don't need the best best quality at my level.
One thing I learned this morning is the Surface Pro doesn't even have a fan 👀. Microsoft created the MacBook Air before it was invented 😮
I cannot believe I can make music on something without a fan. I'll make tomorrow's beat on it as well to make sure it's good.
I could potentially sell the MacBook if tomorrow goes well..
1429€ MacBook (last year) vs 400€ secondhand Surface Pro
    Both do the same thing.
If you are on a budget. I advise the Microsoft models - it was designed to be carried. It is more comfortable in my hand.
Sorry for the monologue I love all of you ❤

@DylanParisMusic thanks for your reply! I've been using Surface Pro8 for almost a year and have my own subjective opinion.
I still love the 2 in 1 feature, but most of the rest is mild.
My main concern is that Windows is not ready for such devices.
Seriously, how can you compare the 16Gb RAM Windows machine in 2022 with anything else for editing and using as only one device? 16 Gb IMHO may be enough only for basic tasks...
I love both of your videos and have already subscribed to your channel.
But the first video created a bit false opinion. Too bad that it was so popular ;))

I have had a lot of Apple devices and also I’m lucky enough to have a half broken 2018 iPad Pro that still gets the job done.
If I could only have one device it would be an SP9 and I’ve been really happy with it. I only have 8GB of RAM in it but I’m a data man and it seems to get through one note, inking, excel spreadsheets PowerPoint and Power Bi (data reporting tool) absolutely fine.
I bought my wife 2 years ago a £2k MacBook Pro and she tutors as a profession. Interestingly she prefers the SP9 which was half the price for her work with students.
I’ve been buying macs since 2005 and will again, they’re great computers. But annoyingly I do loads of data work and prefer the Surface Pro for my corporate work, macs more for hobbies.
What I would say is if you can afford I think an iPad Pro or Air complements well. As I still prefer them for photo work. They’re just so fast and accessible. So if you can afford get both. If only one for me Surface Pro is a clear winner. I can’t compromise on my office apps.
      Sorry for the long response!…
Ps. A good example for me where things break down when using iPad as a primary machine is a simple job like embedding an email within your email to someone. On a desktop system this is easy but on an iPad not so straightforward. It’s annoying having that kind of hassle when you spent laptop / desktop money on a device.

This is my kind of video: A tour de Tourette, if you will; on all things that interest me. One of the reasons that I (and imagine others as well) feel compelled to watch your channel is that you have a similar push to try the "new and shiny" thing. I know I do. I have the bad habit of learning something to only 10-15% of its capability .... (I'm looking at you BeatMaker 3, AUM, Reason 10 et al) and without realizing that the other 85% of my under researched information may hold the answers I want, I jump into the next tier of interest (I'm looking at my desk: Maschine Mikro Mk3, MPC Studio, Arturia KeyStep 37). I wonder if there is a correctable common-thread to all this. Why can't I just have kept at BM3 on my 2018 iPad pro for a few months and really try to exhaust its capabilities before I sadly moved on under the guise of "well it's just not my workflow". Mind you, I'm 62 years young, so not bound by the excuse of being of a younger generation whose attention span rivals that of a gnat. I have a modicum of focus strength and am not bewildered by the information fire-hose coming at me from my smart devices. I do manage my notifications quite well. But I digress: I really do wonder if our shared habit of device-hopping is rooted more with impatience with letting the process play out .... or if (in your case, at least) the need to move the needle with new material compels us to look for an excuse to hit the eject button on the F-14 now that the F-35 Raptor is available ...

For me it's two fold. 1. I love novelty and trying new workflows to strengthen my core knowledge base. 2. I run a youtube channel and variety is key to growth.

You seem to be a very confused man when it comes to gear, BUT I love your videos because you cover so many pieces of equipment, I can't wait to see when you finally settle down to the perfect combination of stuff 😁

Erm. You can run the SP in performance mode whilst on battery. Just wondering whether you set that?

or get a surface pro and an egpu.

The data loss over thunderbolt leads to really diminished returns when using an egpu with the surface pro

@@DylanParisMusic but it’s kind of having the best of both worlds. The eGPU plays games at decent frame rates, helps with video/photo editing, rendering of 3d cad models, etc. I’m talking about the i7 sp8 also. You can do gaming, design, and still unplug it and take it on the go. Pretty solid combo.

I think it’s a neat idea but the amount of power you lose from the gpu over the transfer vs the amount you pay is why I went with a desktop instead. If I need I can always get a tablet to go along with it.

I’m with you on that tablet thing. I never used mine beyond some music making. It just became a paper weight. I’m sold mine and only use the MacBook Pro M1 ProChip. That’s the best purchase for me.

Apple's move to the M1 and M2 is a master stroke. They are still ahead of the game.
