The guys over at Superformance in California invited me out to drive one of their Shelby AC Cobras for the chance of a lifetime. Built under the approval and certification of Shelby themselves, these cars are built completely from scratch in house down to the millimeter. This Shelby Cobra makes 575 HP in a car that weighs almost nothing. With no ABS,traction control, and more I hung on for the ride of the lifetime. It's calm around down, but terrifying and amazing under throttle. They also makes cars such as the Shelby Daytona Coupe, Corvette Grand Sport, and even the Ford GT40. Thanks for watching!

Dude: Just a supportive note to you. I put my 2017 Camaro SS into storage every November (I'm in the Toronto area). I normally pull it out of storage in April. As April approaches, I end up - each year - watching Superformance videos. The @Autotopia videos always catch me, but THIS video, of yours, is the one I always come back to. The sheer joy on your face compliments that pure anticipation I get of blasting from zero. And - you wanna bet - if I'm ever in a position to buy one of these beauties, I'm doing it. Thanks for the ride. It was - and always is - awesome.

At Skip Barber’s Racing School, I got the similar feelings driving a Dodge Viper. Nail the accelerator in a straightaway and you burn rubber, making it a touchy event. (It was a first generation Viper, by the way) The 10 cylinder engine was wedged into the cabin so you sat with the seat facing the left fender to clear the transmission. Weird ride but exciting as Hell and I could not get to sleep easily that night.

Cars like the Shelby Cobra, McLaren F1, Ferrari F40 etc. They're just perfection!!! The Cobra is definitely in the top 5 best cars ever made! Tbh? I love the ones with the 351's, and the 427's. But I'd love one, with a high reving, lightweight 347 stroker! Much lighter, better handling, easier to drive, and throw in a highway gear so you can feel every RPM, and really whine it out!! 350-400hp is all you really need in these light cars. I talked to a guy at a local car show last year, and he had a massive crate engine in his. He said it was undrivable, and you cant enjoy it really.

My grandpa and uncle had a towing and repair shop in the bay area in the 60s . They towed a wrecked Cobra 427 off of the bay bridge that had been rear ended and pushed into the rear end of another vehicle. Well the car was paid off by the insurance co. and totalled but nobody had came back to pick up the car after the adjuster came and declared it a total loss. So a storage lien was put on the car and it eventually became the property of the tow business. The cars aluminum body is really messed up but the chassis and drivetrain are actually unharmed . The car is now under some tarps in my uncles garage here in Nor Cal and is in the same shape it was the day of the accident. Although its now on a salvaged title and in my uncles name. Its never driven and does run actually. Ive started it several times. And it does have a 427 side oiler in it unlike so many that actually had 428s rather than 427s as claimed. My uncle now in his 80s says Its too dangerous to drive so he wont let me do anything with it until hes gone and then he says I can do as I wish but it wont be his responsibility if something happens to me. He is something but I would rather he stick around because its really just a car and he is much more than that .

Just a small correction. Superformance cobras are actually made in South Africa and shipped to So Cal minus running gear. They are also shipped to anywhere else in the world by direct purchase from South Africa. I am a cobra owner myself, not a superformance replica, but we have 2 in my club here in Australia, 1 was imported from USA and the 2nd was a direct purchase. Having said that, any cobra video is a good video and I have yet to see a review on here where the reviewer was not very impressed with the car. Great stuff Blue Dude.

@@paulroberts3550 Hello Paul! Thanks a lot for your reply and my apologies for reading your comment maybe a little bit too fast (the first one) as well as for my late reply.
I will go and watch your video of course!
How much HP do you have under the hood? What type of engine do you have? What transmission did you use?
Is there any other advice you can give me? (except for "drive carefully") 😄
Oh, almost forgot... Do you think it is a good investment to go into a Superformance 427? (I mean in terms of it holding value after 10y, 20y etc..). What do you think?
      Thanks in advance Paul 👍

It was actually the cobra daytona that Shelby had Brock design specifically for Lemans. The long straights required belter aerodynamics to achieve near 200mph top speeds, and the cobra 427 maxed out at about 150 because it was horrible aerodynamically. It was much netter suited for trashing corvettes on shorter US tracks.

Actually, I believe Superformance is manufactured in South Africa (along with Backdraft). Final installation of the engine/trans into the rolling chassis is completed by Hillbank Motorsports in Orange County. I had a Backdraft... slightly stretched chassis, relative to the Superformance. Had an all aluminum DART blocked Windsor stroker putting out 612 hp/615 tq... scary fast. Sold it about 2 years ago... replaced it with an '04 Corvette Z06... just wanted something more comfortable & less attention-getting... much better mileage too.

The A/C Shelby Cobra IS the automotive definition of THICC...dem hips doh (especially on the Mk-III's)
It looked timeless when it was new, and in my honest opinion is one of the most beautiful cars of all time.
They'll still be bear relevancy fifty/sixty years from now.
It's a simplistic body design to be sure, but I think that simplicity add's to the aesthetic appeal of the car.
In metal fab there's a saying "move the metal until the metal moves you". I feel that the Cobra's curvaceous body lines, and happy face (with those two classic halogen bulbs, and wide mischievous grin for a grill) belie it's sporting aggressive intent.
The Cobra outside of exuding "classic cool" and having a front end that presents a playful disposition, is the type of car that just the sight of can plaster a smile on someone's face. My nephew (who's ten) saw one and was completely enthralled with it, the way it looked, the sounds it made.
    They're something very very special.

Slightly misleading title, but another review nicely done. A lot people will nitpick that it's not a "real" AC Cobra, but those cars are million dollar car these days. Superformance is the next best thing. I'll bet you were worn out after driving that thing for the vid; there's nothing subtle or "easy" about driving a car like that.
