This song alone defines Demon’s Souls’ lofty, melancholy mood and should be what the remake strives to encapsulate and build upon. They seemed to have missed out on so many important musical subtleties. Terrible shame.
Same, the original uplifts the melancholy moods; they still stay quiet, isolated...low; it never feels like the score is inspiring your victory, or lifts you out of the sinking swamps (the original tracks feel like you're looking up, maybe in hopelessness or tangarity, the original feels like it's trying to lift you out of that location); like, take Maiden Asteria's theme; hopeless, in the remake they've turned it into some sort of "epic" assuring Orchestral piece, inspiring you to fight Garl Vinland; it's supposed to invoke the opposite, make you question your morality. The remake ruined the tone.
This song feels like “what have i done?” Or “was it really worth it?” it has a massive repentance and emotional feeling, I’ll be using it for a presentation video about WWII for my history class, If I remember then I’ll come back to this comment and keep y’all updated.

When all remaing hope disappeared while terror despair took the whole world, someone appeared: Known as the Slayer of Demons, they pierced through the mist to begin their journey. Is it because they are the one who will save Boletaria from the chaos it is? The one that will make their inhabitants have hope again that they can have a happy ending? Is it because they want to satisfy their bloodlust, absorbing the souls of the most powerful demons and become the strongest demon ever made? You decide, playing as the Slayer of Demons. DS3 and Bloodborne's soundtracks have the advantage of a live orchestra, though. DeS didn't have that level of budget. Imagine it all redone without the synthetic stuff.. Our ears would explode.
Squee36 Some tracks had live vocals*, the rest had better live sampling than the other Souls games had. (Bloodborne had a live orchestra as paid for by Sony) *"Return To Slumber"(Demon's Souls) and "Nameless Song"(Dark Souls) also had live vocals. I'm not sure whether or not "Longing", the credits theme to Dark Souls 2 had it, though. In Dark Souls 3, the "Epilogue" and the main menu themes had live vocals(solo for the Epilogue, and the menu theme sounds a lot like the choirs are live, too). What I meant by "having the advantage of a live orchestra" was a bit poorly worded. I meant DS3 had better samples for the rest of the tracks. The samples used in DS1 and 2 were good, and were used with talent, but DS3 had better ones. Demon's Souls with those samples* would have been awesome, although I still feel DeS has a subtle difference to the style of brass used. Then again, different composer.

@@soul_of_a_hero Yeah, some people feel really passionate about it and go to the other extreme. I prefer the original as well so I get the sentiment behind the hysteria, especially since some of the changes made by the remake are really beyond bizzare, but it tends to be a bit too much tbh
The approach was extremely orchestral and formulaic for the remake (which is a good thing, but very different from the original), so they decided to follow the basic classical music rules of spannungs and build-ups. Props to them, but this banger's still the one in my heart.
I hope they keep the original OST for the original demon's souls in the remake, I mean, I'd like it to be altered a little bit, but this song in the remake would be fantastic.
Anyone else feel like the remake didn't capture the emptiness of this song? This was so profoundly heavy for me in the original. Vuncent Jools Weird stuff... Reaper Titan Nah, I can exclue that since I always had either white or neutral Character Tendency. Only what you do at the END of the game changes the ending... and supposedly changes the credit song as well. But even though my first playthrough was good ending... still, this.
I can't wait to see how they re-recorded or remastered this track. It always instill in me a great sense of power but at the cost of one's sanity. Those violin melodies literally cut into your soul
+The Great Zoom That was his opinion. my favorite in order is: 1: Dark Souls 2: Demon's Souls 3: BloodBorne 4: Dark Souls ll (I still haven't played "Dark Souls lll" I will sometime)
+The Great Zoom Objectively speaking Bloodborne is the most inspired, complete and consistently good out of all the souls games. Dark Souls 1 falls apart midway through after Anor Londo, Dark Souls 3 relies too much in references to the past games and Dark Souls 2 is Dark Souls 2. Demon souls has also aged.
+Christian Alfaro When making a sequel, you are obviously going to have references to previous games. I think they stepped up the references in DS3 since DS2 had almost no connection to the first game. I also don't see the problem with references as long as your new stuff is interesting and memorable (unlike a certain game from 2010 that shall not be names). Bloodborne also isn't consistently good throughout as there are bosses people agree aren't that great as well as some who say the game is style over substance. Basically all of the games are flawed in their own ways. Especially DS2.
"He who fights with monsters should be careful lest he thereby become a monster. And if thou gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze also into thee."

Can’t believe we are getting this for PS5! Umbasa!
One day a big mist took the majestic world of Boletaria. Since then lots of heroes and villains tried to fight through the demons that appeared and end the mist, but they all were defeated.
When all remaing hope disappeared while terror despair took the whole world, someone appeared:
Known as the Slayer of Demons, they pierced through the mist to begin their journey.
Porter of the legendary Flute Armor.
You are going back again
Demon's Souls Remastered. PS5
That there is going on the cover
One of the best song of the Souls/Bloodborne saga , it's just a masterpiece.
One of the best twist endings in a video game.
You get to become the very thing you swore to destroy.
Oh boy, you.
the violins in this version hit way harder than the remakes version
Facts....
The piano is what gets me, and it also got completely washed out in the remake's version.
the remake no have musical instruments only computer and crap
@@wayslie7774 the original game's OST was composed entirely digitally, the remake had actual orchestra

Amen.
Idk I think both are pretty good it's pretty hard which one is good
Waiting to see how they will ruin this perfect theme in the remake... They better have an option to enable the original ost in the game....
That won’t change the environments, enemies, etc. I’m really disappointed by how Bluepoint handled the Remake.
What an astonishingly beautiful song. I sincerely hope that that Shunsuke Kida will be a part of Dark Souls.
wow, that is just a masterpiece.
Came back since the remake version completely lost the meaning of this piece
This is your brain on drugs.
The ps3 version will forever always be my preferred version to play, if for nothing else but the soundtrack
1:06 so beautiful
so much better than the new one, bummer but kinda happy at the same time
UMBASA
This soundtrack is still the best in the souls series in my opinion. The other soundtracks rely on vocals to much. But they are still awesome.
Better than DS2 at least
DS3 and Bloodborne's soundtracks have the advantage of a live orchestra, though. DeS didn't have that level of budget. Imagine it all redone without the synthetic stuff.. Our ears would explode.
Dark Souls 3 did not have a live orchestra.
Squee36 Some tracks had live vocals*, the rest had better live sampling than the other Souls games had. (Bloodborne had a live orchestra as paid for by Sony)
*"Return To Slumber"(Demon's Souls) and "Nameless Song"(Dark Souls) also had live vocals.
ThatOneGuitarGuy 98 dark souls soundtrack was bad it didn't have the uniqueness it needed to be as good as demons and that's what makes a soundtrack amazing look at ds3 and bloodbourne
I still prefer this version over the remake one.
You’re not hunting demons…
You’re The Demon…
This is where you come to cry after listening to the new ost now...
Yes......
Yep
C'mon they are not THAT bad.
Nah more like the moment I finish the game
finally I found it.. I get goosebumps man
This is the prime example of less is more, the remake in a vain attempt outdo the original got bloated with a myriad of different instruments and vocals to compensate, safe to say they failed because it sounds exactly as it does, overproduced and bloated
I get what you’re saying but I do not agree at all. Both versions are good in their own right, I do agree with that the general ost in the original was better but saying it’s overproduced or bloated is disingenuous
@@soul_of_a_hero Yeah majority of people critiquing the remake are just nostalgia ridden and say spiteful things just because
@@eternalblessing4984 it ain't really being nostalgia ridden. Remake ost is great, but, despite being more complex music, it doesn't fit demon's souls atmosphere as much as the original score
@@pantarei3446 I actually agree with you. I personally think the original ost was better but it feels extremely disingenuous to just disregard everything the remake does
@@soul_of_a_hero Yeah, some people feel really passionate about it and go to the other extreme. I prefer the original as well so I get the sentiment behind the hysteria, especially since some of the changes made by the remake are really beyond bizzare, but it tends to be a bit too much tbh
This soundtrack is absolutely beautiful!!!!!!!!
The original still has more impact than the remake. It would have been sick if they used the original OST
Or at least given the option for both like in Spyro
And the original designs as well

@Jose_Mal amn you got some shit game taste
This version is better than the remade song. Change my mind.
No need to, you are correct. But this one really is impossible to remake. Best track in the game.
The approach was extremely orchestral and formulaic for the remake (which is a good thing, but very different from the original), so they decided to follow the basic classical music rules of spannungs and build-ups.
Props to them, but this banger's still the one in my heart.
Yeah, this is still 10/10
This version is objectively much better overall
The remake sounds much cleaner. Maybe it's because I didn't play the original until this year.
(I still REALLY like the original song tho)
DON'T YOU SEE? NO ONE WISHES TO GO ON
One of all time
"Now, bring me more souls"
If the remake doesn't have this ending theme I won't buy it
I hope they keep the original OST for the original demon's souls in the remake, I mean, I'd like it to be altered a little bit, but this song in the remake would be fantastic.
yikes
aged like cyberpunk
@@LeEnnyFace pretty much
Anyone else feel like the remake didn't capture the emptiness of this song? This was so profoundly heavy for me in the original. It's my favorite song in any souls game and I just don't feel it in the remake version. The music is beautiful, don't get me wrong! It just doesn't capture the essence for me.
Because it goes against what you’re doing. Exterminating the human race isn’t a a good thing.
Souls, bring more souls...
You had a heart of gold and you let them take it from you
I’m in love with the angst in this soundtrack

As much as i love the remade version of this, they missed out 0:45 to 0:58 which is my favourite part of this song ;-;
I have an idea: Dragon's Souls.
Seeings that a large part of the Dark Souls Lore extended around dragons... why not? Plus I'm kinda pumped after fighting Kalameet in AotA.

Came here to cleanse my ears after hearing the remake version of this
@Tiredofdumbfuks Like Alex Roe’s version. His Demon’s Souls remixes are great.
@Tiredofdumbfuks they just had a very accademic approach to it, following classical music canons as much as they could. Made it very different from the original (and the original's much better to my tastes)
This song, in retrospect it foreshadows and embodies the tragedy that is the remake, and how it befouled demon’s souls to it’s very core…
i am going to go with the bad ending just to hear this song in game again.. im sorry maiden in black :(
I like the new remake ost, but it seems they missed the og tone of it. Hopefully they patch in a option to swap between og and new music.
Me too I hope so....
Still no option to switch it.

Fun fact: I never once even heard of the song "return to slumber" though I did play the good ending twice at the very least... I always got this one.
maybe it has something to do with the character tendency? (i haven't completed the game yet so it's just a theory)
Got the opposite
Vuncent Jools
Weird stuff...
Reaper Titan
Nah, I can exclue that since I always had either white or neutral Character Tendency. Only what you do at the END of the game changes the ending... and supposedly changes the credit song as well. But even though my first playthrough was good ending... still, this.
Did the good ending. Got this song.
...
Did I do something wrong?
I can't wait to see how they re-recorded or remastered this track.
It always instill in me a great sense of power but at the cost of one's sanity. Those violin melodies literally cut into your soul
I really want a remastered edition. I couldn't play this game :(
Ironic how the 2 souls games that Sony had a hand in turned out to be the best.
If you are referring to Bloodborne then you are most definitely wrong. Best games in the series are Demon's Souls and Dark Souls.
+The Great Zoom
That was his opinion.
my favorite in order is:
1: Dark Souls
2: Demon's Souls
3: BloodBorne
4: Dark Souls ll
(I still haven't played "Dark Souls lll" I will sometime)
Christian Alfaro Bloodborne is hands down the worst gameplay wise. World design, story, and boss design is the best with that game though.
If the world ends, this song must be the last thing we hear.
I give my sooooul, not for leveling but for youuu! ...(Soul Craveer)...
