Great Video! I have a 2014 YZ250F. Having a few strange electrical gremlins as well. If it ends up being a TPS i will be referring to this video. (If i need to test and change out). Right now i checking and cleaning connections and greasing with dielectric grease. I may ask some questions as the 2014 uses the old handheld tuner.
Right on, for sure. Its actually super easy to set on the 2014 with the GYTR tuner. full throttle should read 81 to 82 on the tuner screen if I remember correctly. Idle just depends how high you have the idle set. So I usually use full throttle to dial them in on the older bikes that used the GYTR handheld tuner.

I would have been way behind when these modern bikes started being sold to us but I also have experience in the auto world with fuel injection and engine management stuff and that surely gave me a leg up in the early days of these FI 4 stroke MX bikes.

@@TimmyStasny-ow3hl I have been hearing there is a shortage of auto techs. That's a bummer. I really cant say if there is a shortage of motorcycle techs or not. But I feel these shops like to hire cheaper techs with very little experience. I'm guessing this because bikes are often brought to me after dealerships have already had a jab at it and I'm surprised sometimes at the stuff I repair that a dealership was stumped on. There was a shop down here hiring techs and a friend of the owner told me he would hire me for $25 a hour. I was like holy cow I will just keep working in my own little shop lol. Good luck getting anyone actually good if that's all they are looking to pay. These are tough jobs, Both auto and motocycles. They require a brain and beat up on our bodies too. We are always learning and will be doing research off hours to get to the bottom of things. I will admit I know first hand the auto tech world is tougher than the motorcycle tech world. I started my early years working at my friends auto repair shop and enough though I loved it back then, as soon as I started to lean towards motorcycles I found out real quick they where easier on the body and the mind. Less bending over into tight places, less complicated, and easier access. But motorcycles are getting tougher and tougher. The sport bikes have kinda gotten crazy tight to work on. To do a valve adjustment on some of these sport bikes its just easier to remove the motor lol

Oh man, that app is not good. I was able to do the TPS on my 2014 450 with the Yamaha tuner that came with those older bikes. Was easy even for me. Great video. I was curious how the new app worked.

Can't wait for an update. It sounds like it has a similar problem as my 2002 yz250. My bike at idle/nutrual I can rev it fine. But when I ride it and get into the higher rpms it bogs and dies. Have to come to a stop and kick start it and it starts right up.
@@timmartin9710 If it boogs and dies only at full throttle I would first dig into the carb and make sure everything is good in there. Could have dropped a main jet or a jet clogged.
Got a 23 yz450 accelerate off a jump and it bogged. Now it has a hard time starting unless I give it throttle. Replaced fuel pump , cleaned injector hooked up 9 volt and backflushed, still having issues , no codes on app. Checked valves in spec
Hmm. The replacement fuel pump, was a it new OEM pump? If not did you check the PSI before installing? I would toss a new spark plug in her just to rule that out (if you havent already). I am a little suspect of the TPS though as the TPS can surely cause these type of issues. These can be a little tough to figure out like it was in this video unfortunately. BTW, the new TPS did fix this YZ in this video. Its been doing good since.

@@MrBret151 For sure its frustrating. It was a shot in the dark changing the TPS on this bike but I have seen it a hand full of times on these Yamahas where the TPS causes issues and a new one corrects it. I hope thats the case for you too. Just be sure to get it adjusted in correctly.
No, sorry. When the oil drain bolt is stripped I usually suggest just replace the case unfortunately. Especially if its a 4 stroke. Often times re-threading doesnt come out well, sometimes it cracks the case trying, and sometimes it works but not very well or very long. Same with heli-coils. And often they will dribble or leak if not done perfectly straight. For all these reason its really just best to change out the case. If you need something to just get you by you can wrap the drain bolt with telethon tape (plumbers tape) and that will usually give it enough bite to stay in place and also keep it from leaking. It is a good temp fix to get by with,

Intermittent problems are the worst. Had a problem with my old XR250r started and ran great but every once in while when it was hot it would be terribly hard to start. Never did find out the problem.
Too much tech for me.. and I feel for you independent shops too they are driving you guys out of the industry due to needing so many specialty and electronic tools to be able to just work on the damn things. They’re basically computers on wheels just like all the new cars. All for just a few more hp it’s sad. Going to go on a bit of a rant here but it’s starting to remind me of how the snowmobiles are these days, all of the top of the line sleds are around $30k out the door and come with big 7” or 8” touch screens on them that are like $4000 if you have to replace them, sure they’re cool but everyone agrees that we don’t need all this technology. What we need is affordable and reliable machines that we can just go have fun with, I remember a decade ago when a snowmobile was 9 or 10k new and now they have tripled in price and I can only see the same thing happening for these dirtbikes and it’s sad. The worst part is dirtbikes are inevitably going to wear out much faster than a snowmobile if you ride them how they’re supposed to be ridden, and to be dropping 10k+ on a “disposable” machine every few years like most people do is just absurd to me. They’re pricing us out of the game.
So true. I will admit this is why more and more I'm enjoying the Yamaha 2 strokes. I would also add the KTM 2 stroke to the list but they have now gone down the road for fuel injection and all that so they are now not the simple dirtbike of the past. Simple bikes are fun bikes, for me at least.
@@UpAllNight91 I have a 2019 yz450fx I was riding the other day and it got warm then all the sudden it started cutting out backfiring put on a clutch and started ripping it up and then it cleared it up and then it started again any ideas or suggestions
Ok. I once worked on a 2014 yz250f that was doing the same thing. Cold start was fine till warm restart, then would act up. It ended up being a bad barometric pressure sensor thats mounted on the throttle body. Changed that out and it was good.
