I am very impressed the way you teach. I've been playing for 10 years and self taught but the way I learned isn't the correct way to play. So I basically have to relearn everything. I tried so many virtual teachers and my opinion is that they go very fast and give me no time to think or process what is being taught. But you take your time and explain everything very transparently. You're a big help and please keep doing what your doing! I will be subscribing!

Thank you for this! I’m a beginner, and I’ve been mostly doing exercises just to get familiarized with the piano and to work on my left hand independence, but I haven’t actually tried “learning” seriously (scales, sight reading, chord progression, music theory in general, etc.). This video is a godsend, and you’re a very good teacher!

You're truly a great teacher, I've taught myself everything I know so far but you highlight the importance of having a teacher, someone else that can patiently point out common mistakes and basic techniques, and make practicing less tedious. I can play multiple scales on each hand, but it was watching this video that helped me play with both hands at once. It was confusing at first, but I hope to save time practicing scales now that I can practice with both hands simultaneously 😊. Thanks for this!

Thanks! I’ve learned and given up on playing piano so many times over the years (even made this account years ago and gave up once again) because nobody ever taught me the trick to scale patterns. I was just given charts to memorize (this is C, this is G, this is A, etc.)
I felt like a whole new world opened up when you taught the whole step 3 half step 1 pattern. Now I feel like I know the scales!

Josef, you're one of the best teachers on the internet, it's so fun to play your "musical" exercises. Never opened the keyboard/piano like this. One thing I might add...might make it easier to know where black sharps/flats are for scales/eventually chords. I leaned that you can use octaves..8 notes 1 through 8 1 is low C, 8 is high C. If we assign numbers to notes for all scales, major scales have all whole steps between notes except 3 and 4, and 7 and 8. MInor scales all whole steps except between 2 and 3, and 5 and 6. They all have this structure, no matter if you play an F major, C minor, or whatever. Pretty cool concept I think. Steps could be called tones/semitones as well. Using the black keys also.
In this way, we can learn the actual make up of scales, rather than memorizing for beginners. Just a thought.
