  • Hey guys, I have a bit of a different video for you! I tried to design my new asset and I totally messed it up...
    Despite not be able to achieve my end goal, I still feel like I learned a lot, I still feel like this process is worth sharing.
    I found this happens quite a bit in the creative process, not every idea is worth perusing and sometimes things don't work out. But it's totally ok, we take what we can from the process and move on to the next!
    Have you ever started a project and just didn't know how to finish it to your satisfaction? Please share with me in the comments!!

    Can't call this a fail since there are so many important things working in it. Also, I think it can still work. Just need to break up the red at the top of the head. It only needs a large "Cap Panel" that leads into the design of motif of the hair in the back. The panel line for it is already there. It's only missing one line from the top corner of the forehead panel to the top corner of the receding hair ornament. If you break the top of the head then you will have better percentage of color distribution against the red. Red and Green are hard to mix (since they are contrasting colors) so a neutral color would be help (more white).
    Lastly, I just so happened to be looking at the OVA of GITS SAC 2nd last night, where the geisha episode for the movie art originated from. If you check it out you will notice the "CyberBrain" design that the diplomate who tried to swap out in a suitcase. That "Cybrain" design would help you hone your design. One panel at the top of the would seat the cybrain in your geisha. Anyway, this is the first time I saw your channel and there's tons of help work here. Thanks. You can even cut the same panel line as the cheek bone on the head with one extra indentation to break or mechanize the line. Don't give up. It's great. Love the surface plastic. 💯⭐️🔥👏

    It can definitely feel frustrating when the thing in our head looks so much better than what we're able to create. Either because the image in our head masks "reality" on how something would actually look or just we lack the experience to do our idea justice.
    I am not saying either of those examples applies to your but I am sure we all have been in similar positions.
    Nonetheless what you managed to create I wouldn't call a fail at all. Your piece has beauty to it and actually looks pretty damn cool.

      That is why I want to share this. I feel like we mostly see pieces that the artists prob feel good about, not so much the ones that didn't work out. But in reality everyone prob has a lot of work that they are not happy with. But they are valuable too, we still get something from these projects.

    Yes, even a line directly from the forehead directly back interesting midway perpendicularly with the hair line using the extra corner of the hair line as a mech pattern. You only missed your mark by 10%.

    Is there a specific reason you are not using the subsurface display in the viewport instead of switching to iRay? I've found it gives a pretty good impression of what the sss is going to look like in the render. It makes the scene a little slower, but you had so little geo in there it should have been fine.
    Great video btw, really love the patinated metal you created

    • @ArtruismDigital

      It's currently not working in my view port, I haven't figure out why.

    • @fabianberke5749
      @fabianberke5749 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ArtruismDigital it needs to be turned on in the display settings as well as in the shader settings and it only works with the pbr-metal-rough shader. Took me a while to figure that out.
      I would only use it for smaller assets or characters though, as it tends to slow down the viewport
