they were both throwing defensive projectiles to slow tempo and control space at points in the match . .

You can't projectile spam against Joker, he'll just get Arsene, which makes it actually an amazing spectator matchup
On top of that, we ain't in no kiddie pools this high up, the games are just gonna look more fun, no stupid people getting by with luck here

@@zanioxl3663 completely disagree, I think it's DEFINITELY 40:60, potentially jokers only true -1 matchup. Pika abuses every one of jokers weaknesses and dominates him offstage, and joker really struggles to get projectile chip damage or big conversions off his combo starters with how small pikachus hurtbox is.

Esam is the prime example of how a FGC competitor should be. Works hard, good sportsmanship, and to top it off he makes good content and has a colorful personality
ESAM seems like a really friendly player. I don't watch these often so correct me if I am wrong, but to me he looks like a good sport.
He's my fav player since years and yeah, some people that don't know him sometimes dislikes him for being cocky but he's just joking, he's a really good person in and out of Smash
I met him and smash con and me and my friends took pictures with him, he was super chill with it and even being a little goofy with the photos

Like i said leo doesn't lose to the same person all the time. I gotta say though ESAM was close. Figures since he's destroyed other joker players. He has secured his spot for 9th, but i wonder if he can keep going. He has to fight tweek next, who he has beaten before at genesis 6. That was long ago so who knows if ESAM can handle tweek now. I'm excited to see.

People think Leo is actually good at Joker, think again what makes Leo good is exceptional understanding and predictions of opponents moves. And the best thing about Joker is that it’s an extremely versatile character that can counter everyone

Void will play pikachu sometimes, but the rewards were different, pichu could combo you to 100 and get and ftilt and that was that. Pichu was ss tier in offense, pikachu isn’t quite there.
I played pikachu thro that whole thing because I wanted to play pichu but I felt like the big nerf was coming, but pikachu has that range to beat swordies and the main fear was Lucina

ESAM was too aggresive. I understand his playstyle and how it allows him to run his pikachu so well by doing things that are unparalleled to other pikachu mains, considering he seems to have the best understanding of pikachu to date. That said, it seems ESAMs style is so much non-stop offense that he doesnt tend to back off when it would benefit him. I play my main very similarly to how ESAM plays pikachu in that regard; ive learned knowing when to dial aggression down a notch or two at the right times yields me far more results than constantly rushing my enemy or constantly attacking. Im not saying play a harder neutral game, just a little less aggression. All of that said, this is probably my favorite match-set for smash ultimate. Beautiful matches.
PKMN1995 pikachu imo doesn’t have much of a neutral cuz he relies on killing early to beat his opponents. Since pikachu requires specific percents to kill specific kinds of characters, offensive play is the best option especially against joker. But edgeguarding joker is the best way to win which ESAM didn’t do as such. Yes he should do mix ups but against the best player in the world u gonna approach especially having a better mu than everyone else in top 8

Npw THIS was a smash match. Watching MK Leo and ESAM go toe to toe is just top level smash. As a pikachu main l love watching ESAM nail the competitive scene and as a smash lover l love to watch Leo collect the check with Joker. l hope l can join them some day

We cannot forget ESAM is almost a god slayer for doing so well against Leo. Leo actually had to shift his playstyle to a more aggressive approach, and ESAM was playing really aggressive.
Phenomenal set. I'm really impressed by ESAM's sportsmanship. He took that L with Grace and honor. Same for MKLeo with his W. Congratulations to them both for first and second place!

Really interesting how ESAM could challenge MKleo attempte to use is NAIR/FAIR with Pickachu also he was really agresive when MKleo was off the stage but finish to adapt against this stragegy. I think if ESAM could persiv it and also adapt it (probably trying to grab more) he could have win.

Why the fuck can't players lose like ESAM? Always smiling and giving props to the player who beats him. Arguably the least salty player is smash ult. This scene would be a lot more bearable if more people are like him. And this is coming from someone who is a fan of Kira Flex.

These announcers are killing me with their coverage of pika first set, you can’t get the kill bair with any character from 0, you go for the strong upair to extend the combo then you can possibly hit the kill bair or more likely fastfall and thunder confirm, Leo just isn’t an novice and isn’t letting esam set up a confirm he DISCOVERED AND MADE FAMOUS on stream
