Set completely aside. The ENTIRE production of this tournament was immaculate! The commentating, replay analysis, entertainment value, etc. The Glitch team really put their hearts into this and it's VERY clear!
The in between game analysis was a nice touch made it feel professional. I wish there was a bit more time between games for this reason, maybe a 90 second intermission
Let’s be honest. Esam is the best player for Pikachu which is considered the top 3 characters. There is little reason why he shouldn’t be in top 5 as long as some guy named Maister is out of his way.

Game 3 is relatively equal since the person with 2 wins feels like they have the momentum but Leo has the download. Game 4 is the gaining of momentum for Leo. Game 5 you just have to keep the pace of the game the same
It's been so long I feel like the commentators forgot that ESAM actually has a pretty good record vs MkLeo throughout ultimate. A lot of their sets have been game 5 and I think Leo was probably only up 1 set (offline at least). Still, winning this tournament is a great achievement for Esam and he played fantastically.
Before today, Esam was up in offline sets, but most or all of his wins were vs Marth/Lucina. I wanna say he was 0-2 to Leo Joker? So while Esam has beaten Leo a lot, there's always been the question of "but could he beat the Joker?" which was answered with a resounding yes today :) edit: apparently esam had only beaten leo twice, once on marth and once on lucina. and he lost twice to joker. i honestly was a little skeptical when i saw esam beat leo in winners, since he "only" took one game off the joker. but grand finals changed my mind

The best part of this series of sets is creeeping realization that slowly seeps into the commentator's voices as they watch Leo's last stock get evaporated in real time
I love that they started playing slowly, it really shows that they’re focusing more on analyzing and reading each other’s move sets. It’s like a major 5D chess match they’re playing.
The smash pro community are slowly winning entire sets against Leo in a semi consistent way. First it was tweek with a 6-0 and now Esam who beat Leo in winners and G.F. Leo is still the top 1 though, but he nows needs to be more careful and serious and I know he knows that, this is why he now doubts joker because it is a match most pro know at this point.

@@noice8911 Yep. MKLeo gonna learn the pika matchup and study these games against Esam and almost certainly come out on top against him next time in bracket. MKLeo just has not practiced as much as Tweek and Esam did during quarantine, so the gap between them has shrunk, but that also means that Leo has more room to improve than them I believe, like we saw in his rematch against Tweek.
I've been watching Esam for years, what a goon. He's been grinding so much lately. It really is amazing watching him play because Pika is tough. The amount of hits you have to get vs the amount of hits your opponent needs is often stacked against you. Especially, when it comes to Joker with Arsen. He has to work so hard for that win
@@hannibal8810 that is very true. That being said, I watch tournaments online often and I very rarely see pika in high level play. Definitely rare to see people consistent with him as a main like Esam is. Pika is tough. You have to sweat so much as him by constantly moving, always working hard to actually kill if the two players are on the same level.
@@hannibal8810 No one plays Pikachu. He's not putting up any results except from ESAM and the skill cap for the character is one of the highest in the game. The character is strong, but also one of the most difficult to play. He also seems incredibly overrated as a character since there are literally very few results for Pikachu.
Normally I stay pretty chill watching VODs of things that happened months ago but after the end of that last game I could actually feel my own heartbeat. That was a truly hype moment if I've ever seen one.

I had to keep replaying that last stock game 4 match because I couldn't believe what I just saw. I was rooting for ESAM the whole set but after he SD'd in the beginning of Game 4, I thought Leo was taking back the whole tournament for sure. That last combo from ESAM though....what an absolute legend. Beautiful set from both players. Really happy for ESAM. He deserved it.

Yep, I do think esam not being in tourneys for a while + there not being other big pika mains (somehow, considering pikachu is a good character in general) led to players not practicing pikachu mu's often. Next tournament with esam is definitely gonna be closer.

Yeah, the storylines are kinda crazy at this point. There's Leo who's the PGR 2019 #1 player defending his title of the best in the world. Then you have Spargo who started making waves online and has had some big tournament placements IRL We also have Tweek who is the former #2 player who spent time during quarantine to reflect on himself and find himself a character that he wants to main, who is giving Leo a run for his money for that #1 spot. There's also Marss, who was poised to be in contention in the #1 spot in early 2020 but due to Covid was thrown off his groove and is currently going through something of a rediscovery arc. And then there's Esam who's been grinding the f*** out of Ultimate during quarantine and probably just jumped from top 20 to top 5 unexpectedly. Those are just the real basic ones I felt like covering. The storylines run pretty deep with this game's competitive scene and I'm curious to see where it goes.
Finally a person in the comment section that also thinks that the commenters are way too concentrated on Leo lmao. They said so much like ‘oh no arsene is coming’ but only complimented once on how well Esam had been dealing with all these arsene throughout the game. It’s completely fine to take about arsene coming out cause it is part of the game and it is their job to do that, but being over reacting to arsene every time it appears is just really annoying.

Just due to the amount of time and experience Esam has on his pikachu its god tier i would never underestimated someone who used a character as long as Esam has. Experience becomes a deadly weapon when it applied correctly

All the switch did was make the match at least possible but I would think leo might be able to bring this back sense he's been slowly warming up the joker sense even he's said it's rusty
@@eliassheridan6837 Speaking from a Pika main, this SD is 100% understandable. It is not a mis-input. He went to far from thr ledge that the angle for the second quick attack was just no there. He couldn’t do a 45 degree up B twice and either aim up or down a bit would have missed the ledge.
And even that, ESAM said he did mess up few combos and was sometimes too agressive Imagine if he played even better. Would be a 2-0 3-0 sweeps Pika busted
SPOILERS* You could see the game 4 Leo effect taking place, with Esam on 100%+ last stock whilst Leo was still fresh on his final stock. But then Esam gets that crazy confirm, ending Leo's tournament super early. Crazy stuff from both players, great set.
Leo needs to get back to grinding Joker. I mean , his Byleth is nasty, but you see what he has to do when it comes to oppressive characters such as Pikachu.

I'm no expert on this game by any means but of all the you tube videos I've seen ESAM is the best pikachu player I've ever seen. The amount of pressure he puts on is incredible. I found a new favorite player to follow, congrats to the winner!
Esam is indeed the best pikachu player in the world. He was also regarded as roughly top 15 before the quarantine. We'll see how things go with him from here he has practiced a lot.
To be fair, it is pretty reasonable for someone to assume that SDing at 0 against game 4 Leo's joker in grands will cost that particular game. Esams ability to erase stocks was just absolutely wild

Fue un excelente torneo, me gusto mas que los otros, en todos los juegos siempre iban parejos o hicieron cosas bastante geniales casi todos los jugadores. Algo remarcable es que Maister casi vence a Leo, Chag volvió a sufrir lo que le hizo Capitan Zack hace años(destruir su escudo y fue quien lo elimino) y Leo lo tuvieron contra la pared ya no tienen miedo a Byleth, le jugaron fuera del stage y si le robaron stocks como el lo hace. Me alegra que fuera full con Joker e hiciera lo imposible por ganar pero, al parecer ya fracturaron su forma LEO, y Esam es la prueba de que incluso con Arsene y regalándole un stock se le puede ganar al rey de los comebacks. Esto si es una nueva era.
Damn...I first watched this a couple months ago when I was relatively new to watching smash elite. I was told that mkleo was the best player and all that, of course, but I didn't yet have the knowledge of how utterly dominant leo is, of how he often he manages to make crazy comebacks. Now I can appreciate even more how unusual it is that Esam was able to do this here.
Amazing vertical and horizontal recovery. Combo game is nuts, kill confirms for days (one being a throw), pressure with t-jolt is infuriating and impossible to deal with, and he's fast....I hate Pikachu 😭😂

I think Aegis may get edgeguarded way too easily by Pika. Joker has better recovery mix-ups overall, so I think it was a good call by Leo. But I think he needs to play Joker more during tournaments to at least get him warmed up.

I'm so happy for Esam. The guy has been playing smash for a long ass time and all his hard work and dedication has paid off. Not only that but he showed amazing character to flubb his first stock but man held his nerve, kept his cool and executed a perfect zero-to-death combo on none other than mkleo to seal the tournament win. The smash pro community are slowly winning entire sets against Leo in a semi consistent way. First it was tweek with a 6-0 and now Esam who beat Leo in winners and G.F. Leo is still the top 1 though, but he nows needs to be more careful and serious and I know he knows that, this is why he now doubts joker because it is a match most pro know at this point.

@@noice8911 Yep. MKLeo gonna learn the pika matchup and study these games against Esam and almost certainly come out on top against him next time in bracket. MKLeo just has not practiced as much as Tweek and Esam did during quarantine, so the gap between them has shrunk, but that also means that Leo has more room to improve than them I believe, like we saw in his rematch against Tweek.

I've been watching Esam for years, what a goon. He's been grinding so much lately. It really is amazing watching him play because Pika is tough. The amount of hits you have to get vs the amount of hits your opponent needs is often stacked against you. Especially, when it comes to Joker with Arsen. He has to work so hard for that win

Definitely rare to see people consistent with him as a main like Esam is. Pika is tough. You have to sweat so much as him by constantly moving, always working hard to actually kill if the two players are on the same level.

The character is strong, but also one of the most difficult to play. He also seems incredibly overrated as a character since there are literally very few results for Pikachu.
Normally I stay pretty chill watching VODs of things that happened months ago but after the end of that last game I could actually feel my own heartbeat. That was a truly hype moment if I've ever seen one.

I had to keep replaying that last stock game 4 match because I couldn't believe what I just saw. I was rooting for ESAM the whole set but after he SD'd in the beginning of Game 4, I thought Leo was taking back the whole tournament for sure. That last combo from ESAM though....what an absolute legend.

Yep, I do think esam not being in tourneys for a while + there not being other big pika mains (somehow, considering pikachu is a good character in general) led to players not practicing pikachu mu's often. Next tournament with esam is definitely gonna be closer.

There's Leo who's the PGR 2019 #1 player defending his title of the best in the world.
Then you have Spargo who started making waves online and has had some big tournament placements IRL
We also have Tweek who is the former #2 player who spent time during quarantine to reflect on himself and find himself a character that he wants to main, who is giving Leo a run for his money for that #1 spot.
There's also Marss, who was poised to be in contention in the #1 spot in early 2020 but due to Covid was thrown off his groove and is currently going through something of a rediscovery arc.
And then there's Esam who's been grinding the f*** out of Ultimate during quarantine and probably just jumped from top 20 to top 5 unexpectedly.
Those are just the real basic ones I felt like covering. The storylines run pretty deep with this game's competitive scene and I'm curious to see where it goes.

@@eliassheridan6837 Speaking from a Pika main, this SD is 100% understandable. It is not a mis-input. He went to far from thr ledge that the angle for the second quick attack was just no there. He couldn’t do a 45 degree up B twice and either aim up or down a bit would have missed the ledge.
This is some of the best gameplay, if not THE best gameply that I've seen from ESAM. Props to him, what a fun set.
MKLEO is my favorite Smash pro, but damn the way how ESAM zero to death Leo at the end was phenomenal.

You could see the game 4 Leo effect taking place, with Esam on 100%+ last stock whilst Leo was still fresh on his final stock. But then Esam gets that crazy confirm, ending Leo's tournament super early. Crazy stuff from both players, great set.

I'm no expert on this game by any means but of all the you tube videos I've seen ESAM is the best pikachu player I've ever seen. The amount of pressure he puts on is incredible. I found a new favorite player to follow, congrats to the winner!
Esam is indeed the best pikachu player in the world. He was also regarded as roughly top 15 before the quarantine. We'll see how things go with him from here he has practiced a lot.

Fue un excelente torneo, me gusto mas que los otros, en todos los juegos siempre iban parejos o hicieron cosas bastante geniales casi todos los jugadores.
Algo remarcable es que Maister casi vence a Leo, Chag volvió a sufrir lo que le hizo Capitan Zack hace años(destruir su escudo y fue quien lo elimino) y Leo lo tuvieron contra la pared ya no tienen miedo a Byleth, le jugaron fuera del stage y si le robaron stocks como el lo hace.
Me alegra que fuera full con Joker e hiciera lo imposible por ganar pero, al parecer ya fracturaron su forma LEO, y Esam es la prueba de que incluso con Arsene y regalándole un stock se le puede ganar al rey de los comebacks. Esto si es una nueva era.
Damn...I first watched this a couple months ago when I was relatively new to watching smash elite. I was told that mkleo was the best player and all that, of course, but I didn't yet have the knowledge of how utterly dominant leo is, of how he often he manages to make crazy comebacks. Now I can appreciate even more how unusual it is that Esam was able to do this here.

Amazing vertical and horizontal recovery. Combo game is nuts, kill confirms for days (one being a throw), pressure with t-jolt is infuriating and impossible to deal with, and he's fast....I hate Pikachu 😭😂

I think Aegis may get edgeguarded way too easily by Pika. Joker has better recovery mix-ups overall, so I think it was a good call by Leo. But I think he needs to play Joker more during tournaments to at least get him warmed up.

Esam just beat game 4 Leo with an SD and a 0 to death… He was out for blood. Plus made Leo not confident in his Byleth and made him switch to Joker. HE DID ALL THE THINGS AGAINST LEO THAT WE WILL PROBABLY NEVER SEE AGAIN IN ONE SET.
