Blender Tutorial - Seamless Looping Fire Simulation

  • Hello everyone and in this video we will be learning how to create a looping fire simulation in Blender. Simulations are a little more tricky to make seamless because they are calculated every frame and you can't just animate it. You need to do it in post. So after creating a pretty simple simulation we just into the video sequence editor and learn how to make it loopable!

    Thank you so much, this is exactly what I've been looking for!! I needed to build a realistic fireplace and fire to augment reality for a children's story set... There's loads of tutorials, but none of them talk and tell you what they're doing and why... I had no problems modelling the fireplace itself I was just getting stuck with the physics.

    This is exactly what I need. I was trying to produce smoke and fire wasn't getting anywhere. You told me to bake and then go into the compositing tab and that worked like a charm.

    How can I use this fire in another scene, because when I add this fire in a scene and when I press F12 to render the scene I see just the fire in the render

    I guess this doesn't work in 2.82? Some of the settings are different. Oh well. Nice tutorial anyway.

      2.82 now have mantaflow which is a new engine

      I was struggling for 2 days trying to make my simulation work, and after some research I´ve learned that the new Mantaflow Engine does not work at all. So I rolled back to version 2.81.

      Yeah I couldn't find the HD resolution settings so my fire simulation was blurry and low res. I still can't find it. I should just switch to 2.9 and hope it works

    i suggest putting a subsurface modifier on the uv sphere if u dont want the blocky squares on it

    Doesn't work in 2.93, different interface and changing the original sphere settings does nothing. Might be a bug idk

      That sounds to me like a fine tuned smoke simulation. Have you tried messing with that? Maybe you could have puffs of smoke that don't dissipate, and have them form off camera or something?

    Hello can someone tell me how do i render this? when i click render animation it renders the box but not the simulation inside of it. I tried t set it to wire and bounds but nothing helps. It is baked

      It is not related to the simulation because this is rendering out the image sequence and not re-baking the simulation in the 3D scene. The sequence of images (PNG frames) will be rendered out to a designated folder you assign in the OUTPUT tab. From there you can choose to output to any file format available in the drop down list. I used PNG frames because I re-import them into Unity 5 for my game project and needed to retain the transparency. Hope this late response helps as i just discovered the tutorial yesterday evening.     Thank you so much for this! I've been looking how to do decent fire in Blender and the thumbnail lured me over.
    Alas, I'm new to Blender and probably should have spent more time in bootcamp, but here we are. The shiny. Can somebody point me to a way to only have the flames come from a painted on texture? I want to have it on the back and have it flicker to the front a bit. I thought I'd do it with a world normal, extract a mask from it and multiply that with the cloud noise. However I can't find a way to reference a shader, only a texture. So, uhm… help?

    Sorry, I have a question. If the floor reflection is 0, how can the floor feel the light of the flame? I hope the object can also feel the light of the flame. (eevee render)

    Great n clear, however I couldn't follow in Blender V°2.83.0 I must be very clumsy. Especially for bake part, impossible to fin cache files and there's no "Bake" button??? Is it advanced so no need to bake? However I did fire in previous V°2.81.a and tuto works fine TY Bests.

    i know im late to this video but i still made it but i need some big help obsly i came here so the thing i did i made fireball with the fire animations everyting looks totally fine like in the video so i wanted to save the file into fbx file or any file (i tried other versions too) i made a simple animations for the character like useing a fireball so now i wanted to inport the fireball to make the animations for that too and i cant do it at all its just a huge block like there is no border or any animations at all i dont know what to do i tried diffrent things

    Great tutorial my friend! the only problem a got is that i ain't got the High resolution setting, maybe its cuz you're on 2.81.16 version of Blender and im on the 2.82.7, don't you got some issues for me?

      Its Add Resolution now, and you need to enter a number. Should be in Adaptive Domain

    My sphere just keeps turning into smoke and not rendering the fire. I seen it there in a different view but it’s not showing in render view. I don’t get what I’m doing wrong and really wish I had a mentor to walk me through this stuff on discord or something.

    Great tutorial always want to do a seamless looping flame. Can such an animation be incorporated in a project where you need such a flame. Example a medieval building with burning torches?

      Yes I think that could work. Just use the same principle shown in the video. If there is any camera movement it might be a little more tricky though. I would say you are better off rendering the entire thing.

      I added keyframes to the offset by hovering over it and press I. Is this what you mean?

      Blender 2.82 changed a lot of how the fire simulation works. You have to bake in the data before you can preview it.

    for me it just shows the smoke. in 2.90 it didn't work at all I think bc of different settings idk. but un 2.80 I only get smoke even tho I made the flow type fire. fire & smoke also just shows smoke.. :/ great tut tho!

    idk why but it only bakes the first 40 frames, like the baking completes at 40 frames

      Then use the knowledge you received from this and do it. Tutorials are not for copying and pasting, they're meant to learn and use the information given for other projects.

      You can change the physics of the UV sphere to fluid, try and see if that work

    How to do two simulations at the same time? like fire and water so have your fire on and then water turning ot turn off the fire ..is there anything done on that.
