It’s awful how Violet is being disregarded here, so she has to try desperately to protect both her unborn child and Anthony who’s being forced to make this choice.
My thoughts exactly! Those doctors may have thankfully saved little Hyacinth and Violet, but they suck for disregarding her and what she wants and tried to force Anthony to make a choice.

And even if it were a choice for the lord of the houses decision would be undoubtedly to save them both so he could only let her choose because it is her choice as it should be. But it's also what his father would've wanted
He's 18, He just lost his dad, could have very easily lost his mom (the death rate for women giving birth during this time was horrific and not good until modern medicine started becoming what it is in the 1940s/50s) and would have 7 younger siblings to worry about, you understand Anthony a lot better in season 2

We didn't see much scenes between them but their bond must be more special than other siblings. As Edmund died before Hyacinth were born Anthony must have been stepped out as a father figure to her more than a brother.
The doctor is entirely disrespecting Viloet, despite her being the one that’s giving birth. She’s trying to save her unborn, Anthony her child from being forced to face an awful decision, and stop all of them becoming orphans. (Also Antony who’d run the family and look after all of his siblings (including a newborn)). She knows from experience that the birthing is going wrong and the doctors trying to gaslight her.
