338 Lapau Magnum - Tararua Ranges Deer Hunt, New Zealand

A great mission out with the kids and somehow we miss our first deer with the 338 Lapua at 495 yards. So disappointing to miss in such good conditions, however with a recent fall on my mind and the shot process not being fluid, the fault lays with me. After reflecting on the shot process, I completed a follow up shot into a dirt bank. This shot was perfect and provided assurances the rifle and shooter are good at 500 yards. It was also a great chance to complete the first dope validation, given we had only shot the 338 Lapua at 100 yards for a zero, setting the impact at 3.25" high.
