  • We head into the south Canterbury high country and endure sub zero temperatures as we hunt for red deer and attempt to shoot our first thar. At this time of year thar have amazing coats and a trophy head would be great mounted on the wall.
    The equipment I use:
Savage Long Range Hunter 338 Lap Magnum

Thanks Greg, definitely cool to be able to drive to a hut. It's a great area to hunt in.

Hey mate, awesome content. I passed by you and figured you were glassing just a little ways out from the Base hut. I was in my blue toyota prado so was good to see this pop up on youtube. I did read the intentions where you mentioned this. Good luck with your future hunting. 🤙🏽

G'day mate, I have to say it's great being back on the mainland and meeting so many good people. Appreciate the feedback ref the content. Hope your hunt went well. Certainly the terrain was a challenge for me this time with snow. Safe hunting.

Hey mate, we were the couple that came in and went into the dingleburn, thick snow in dingleburn valley it was hard work getting in and out, got to -11 at night when we were there, we ended up having no luck, saw one spiker and a couple tahr up way up at 1700m, pretty sure we saw the same bull tahr in your video above on the way out of Ahuriri. Awesome couple of days though!, great spot!

Hey mate, great running into you and your partner. I was playing it safe carrying overnight gears with me and had fun getting partway up the Dingleburn. I spooked one but didn't see anything else there.
It was great to see a bull that with its impressive cape. I've never hunted thar before. Would be keen to come in a month earlier during the rut.
Thanks for stopping to have a chat.

Did you end up needing crampons on the Upper Dingleburn Hut side of the hill and how deep was the snow up top?

@benmcbride1396 I went over and stayed a night in the top Dingle hut on the 22nd. Would've been your foot prints in the snow. Seen a few tahr directly across from the hut. Did you guys have a possum keeping you up at night living under the hut? I did until he caught the end of the spade.

@@longrangehuntingadventures I slept a night in the tent just one gut up the valley from where you shot the deer on the 21st. There was a chamois buck by himself there about where you climbed to the next day.
