- Venice, Los Angeles - September 13, 2024: A large-scale cleanup operation at Venice Beach on Friday brought to light the complex issues surrounding homelessness in the area. During the effort, a homeless man camping on the beach was approached by Los Angeles Park Rangers and informed that he could not camp on the beach and needed to remove his belongings.
The man, who had a 10x10 pop-up tent, a kayak, a pet dog, and numerous personal items, was given 15 minutes by the rangers to dismantle his encampment. He expressed his intention to tear down the campsite and load his belongings onto his kayak to leave. Despite his efforts, not all of his possessions could fit onto the kayak within the allotted time.
As the deadline passed, sanitation workers began loading the remaining items onto their truck. They informed the man that his belongings would be moved off the beach to a nearby parking lot where he could retrieve them. The man later arrived at the parking lot to collect his items. Sanitation workers advised him that any items left unclaimed by the following day would be removed.
This incident occurred during a broader cleanup initiative led by a multi-agency task force, including Los Angeles Park Rangers, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), the Department of Public Works, Recreation and Parks, Clean Harbors Environmental Inc., Los Angeles County Beaches and Harbors, the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA), and the office of Councilwoman Traci Park.
The operation underscores the city's commitment to addressing homelessness with compassion while maintaining public safety and cleanliness. LAHSA was present to offer essential services such as food, water, and hygiene kits to those in need. Notably, no citations for public camping were issued, reflecting a strategy focused on support rather than enforcement.
These weekly cleanups along the Venice Beach Boardwalk aim to tackle the immediate health and safety concerns posed by hazardous and non-hazardous waste. Personnel equipped with protective gear meticulously sorted and disposed of waste to ensure a thorough operation.
Councilwoman Traci Park's office continues to play a pivotal role in balancing community safety with compassionate outreach. The city's approach emphasizes coordinated efforts to address the underlying causes of homelessness while enhancing public health and sanitation.
The decision to refrain from issuing citations highlights the city's preference for supportive measures over punitive actions. These initiatives are a key component of Los Angeles's broader strategy to assist the homeless community while maintaining the integrity of public spaces.

The bottom line is you can't live on the beach.
Exactly. Laws against camping apply to everyone.
Applies to everyone. I'm sure if someone set up their $300k RV on the beach they'd be told to move immediately.
Pas sûr !!! 😢😢😢Frank-d5u
Homeless community? these are vagrants.

The dog wants water and some food while the "gentleman" wants drugs. Praying for the pup.
Poor little dog doesn't know where to go for someone to care. Scooting under the backpack for the only shade near him!! My heart is sinking
What happened to the little pup😢 precious little victim fur baby needs a loving home ❤
This is why I don't understand why do homeless people collect so much when in a week they have to move again.
It can pretty much be summed up in two words: mental illness. 😔
They r all tweekers from doing meth n back in 1980s it was called crank n they all did the samething collect junk
Read more about mental illness. You might start with narcissistic psychopathy and borderline personality disorder
Don't you think they might be desperate and confused
I like the Tiki hut accents!
Being a "beach bum" ain't what it used to be.
Around 1980-82 there was a tidal wave that went all the way to Lincoln Blvd pushing in. Not a rolling tidal wave seen in Venice yet but water keeps on pushing in, so that kinda tidal wave. The graffiti pit near the police station is the remains of an old community homeless shelter bldg where showers and food were given daily. They tried to make it more like less beach bums and more rich people but it didn't work because the rich could not annex the property to a separate town like Santa Monica and the rules of the city of Los Angeles apply there. Still the wealthy out there want their property values maintained high but most that buy into Venice can't change it and they wind up becoming beach landlords. You can see the freemason V sign near the police station. That's who governs Venice Beach until that whole system can't anymore. It's coming down or the old post office would be a movie studio now but it's all coming down and it's a world plan at a spaceforce level that governs the militaries at ground level.
His situation is critical, but yet he moves so slow.
I JUST FEEL SORRY FOR THE LITTLE DOG!!!
Look how slow he's moving He's pushing it he's trying to show them he's in charge but he'll take his time and do it what an a******
did he tell the dog " ha ha if you want water get it from the ocean" that dog needs saved!
Breaks my heart for the dog

People need to learn to accept help.
We ALL want to live on the surf at Venice Beach. But we can't. NO ONE CAN, GENIUS. LOOK AROUND.

He should not have been camping on the beach and things would not have gotten broken.
Life is about choices. His is to not get a job, camp out on a beach, kayak because it’s better than working, and try and get away with just living free on a beach. When he’s in his 60’s and 70’s with no pension, 401K, or SS, he will blame others and the system.
When he's elderly, he'll get a free ride in subsidized old age public housing. I knew a lady who went through 2 bankruptcies buying crap on the Home Shopping Network and ended up there. We live in a Nanny State.
The poor little dog doesn’t understand what’s happening 🥺

Right. "This ain't my first rodeo!" Not thinking, or taking care of the dog. Guitar w/o strings wasn't looking too cared for either. Get with the program; you're not Robinson Crusoe and can't live on the beach. In fact, you're the piece of sh*t! Yeah, you file that complaint with yourself...
@PauloHernandezXD There's poor me and there's just plain young and dumb. To judge it well enough for me to feel like I know, would take his angel.
Why do they even allow them to set up camp in the first place? If you are there after a certain time they kick you out, but these bums are allowed to set up camp? My only sympathy is for the poor doggie, furry critters deserve a huge yard to play on, plenty of treats , and nice doggie bed for them to rest their little heads on, poor baby.
Right.. if I stay too late on the beach they threaten to arrest me. When they camp out for a week no one says anything to them.
Homeless guy thinks he can live on the beach 🏖️ for free it’s not going to happen as time goes on he will bring more and more stuff and make the beach look bad.
Feel for the dog. Not so much for Cap'n Kayak.
His “fort” wasn’t just set up overnight, he had to have been there for a few days
How in the world do these people accumulate all this crap so fast
And how do they move it?
Good Samaritans give them all that crap and it ends up in the dumpster.
I ask myself that same question all the time!
Look at how many people who are on the clock it took to accomplish this. Total waste
Oh, that’s what we call teamwork.
Wow that guy was really going to go in the water with all his stuff
Arguing for 10 minutes gives this guy 5 minutes to pack up and move! 😵💫
If they gave him 15 minutes he'd need an hour, if they gave him an hour he'd need two.
He got like freaking 10 workers waiting for him to move all his shits. 😂
Great coverage!
I swear all homeless people are hoarders - if you got _that_ much crap, go get a small storage unit for $10/month.
As if storage units are only 10$ a month?!
Storage units START at $100 and more per month now!
@@jipsigal for even the smallest ones ?! 😬
@@flanagamer My sister passed away a few years ago. My siblings and I had to clear several of her storage units out… the cheapest one was $98 a month and it was no bigger than a large closet, the other was a small ‘room’ that cost $140 a month. That’s what I’m drawing my reference from. There might be places out there with even smaller storage for less, but I haven’t seen any!
@@jipsigal yikes! I was about to get a storage unit too 🥲
He is a very capable person.....GET A JOB DUDE. Zero self awareness. Everything is someone else's fault. I hope his dog gets a new life.
Gonna need a bigger boat...
LOL
It seems like most everywhere that these homeless people go, they bring their drama with them. The man has a job to do. I feel quite certain he really doesn't feel like fighting with these people everytime he goes out and tries to do his job.
Help this tired dirty little doggy. It can barely walk more than s few steps at a time.😥
So many city and county employees standing around costing taxpayers money While this Person casually puts together all the stuff he's collected for whatever amount of time.
How many government workers to get 1 dude off the beach--10
It takes a willing and able community 🙏 🙌 ✨️ 😌 👌 💯

It’s a show of force, Darlin’ 🙄 and considering the attitude of that homeless pos proved it was necessary.
One gov. worker is absolutely, unequivocally, inadequate for impressing upon these brain damaged individuals to move along, guvnor.
Strength 💪 in numbers can't trust these vagrants I know for a fact
Now his garbage piles just moved over there 👀
That boat should go back to whomever he stole it from.
Find out what happened to the dog😢
They should just swoop in from the beginning and get it done.
He must think his kayak is a cargo ship . .
Let us know what happens tomorrow. Will his staff still be there??
No nothing, he got nothing, lost all his stuff, promises not kept by the system.
That poor little dog , just panting and so hot 😂
what a waist of tax payers dollars....
These workers and police shouldn’t have to be subjected to this on a weekly basis. How much money is wasted on these losers. No wonder tourism is down in that area.
Wrong is wrong.
Right is right.
You literally can hear and see him deliberately threw the guitar and crushes it with the kayak.
Two wrongs there sadly..
Look at all that crap they need to move in there & streamline the process
They should deliver it to the parking lot then announce there is a 15 minute time limit to leave personal belongings in the parking lot. By doing it in stages it's much easier to have the subject accept maybe even begin to throw the stuff into the dumpster themselves. I'd have multiple dumpsters too in different pastel colors and a very detailed & worded chart posted to read with different time table's and rules for each dumpster and sponsereship stickers from various real estate companies displayed on each dumpster as a bonus. Lastly, I like the caution tape too.
I think the dude is saying that he bought this beachfront property from a dude back in Cleveland and he just got everything moved on it, even his dog. And you guys are saying it belongs to Venice Beach?
If he said that he was lying.
Patrolling LEO should be able to separate vagrants from anything that person is not able to carry on their backs - if they did this on the streets, they would not have to deal with THIS, on the beaches. Something is wrong with the police there, if they allow the camping to happen in the first place (and then they have to clean it all up again, once a week?)…
Being homeless is bad, and my heart goes out to them. But the GOAL should be finding shelter, a job, their own apartment - not staking a claim on the beach and filling said tent with all the little things ‘to make it a home’ (it’s NOT).
There's many working homeless that don't do drugs. The problem is absentee re owners rigging housing prices.
The black guy city worker i❤ the way he brake it down in a layman's Terms I ❤ the way Black American speak & the no nonsense way.....thanks Fab ✌️❤️ Big👍from Liverpool uk
Break the rules, pay the consequences.
They determine the rules by looking around at the other people, not reading washed out scarce little signs.
I'll say one thing homeless dogs are well trained
This is so funny and true. They spend 24hrs a day with their dogs 🐕
Every one of these people when given fifteen minutes to pack up, purposely take their time to dismantle everything... The police should be there... After 15 minutes the cuffs go on
the Supreme Court issued its opinion in Grants Pass v. Johnson, which makes it easier for communities nationwide to fine, ticket or arrest people living unsheltered, even when there is no adequate shelter available.
Was it ever legal to live on a public beach?
@@larryj1048 Ya before Laws!!!!!!
That's horrible but I think it's for the upcoming Emergency Broadcast System lockdown, where they declare a war and make everyone get on the same page while they do a final clean up of what's undesirable. I heard if they claim they have no place to go home for that they will force them to homeless camps for the duration. They used to say it's 3-10 days but obviously it can't go on past nothing to eat or drink, etc, etc....People can't be stuck inside with each other, they want to go out. They are out doing random things though with no family values so they have to get back to that is what I heard. They will if everybody else does before the free lover movement..
why does it take 14 people to get one guy to move his shit?
haha yep. that's commefornia. most retarded state in the USA
I don't know why does this guy have to pack crap onto the beach and think he can live there

I saw him and the dog yesterday. The dog is fine, he didn't lose the dog, just everything else but his backpack.
Poor dog.
The city has allowed this far to LONG
PEOPLE know you can't live on the BEACH !!!!!!!!!!!!
This is coming from a new law against homeless that came out in CA at the end of August. I personally know a lot of apartments in LA are too hot in the summer and they can keep getting in the ocean there and have a breeze. So this started up back out on the beach. They used to mostly be on the boardwalk through cv19 but that was mostly drug addicts. Most addicts don't have that much property or camp closer to the ocean than the boardwalk in Venice. Malibu/Topanga had a lot of them deeper in the woods but I saw one with leprosy so maybe they spread that around. It's not like old days leprosy, milder but recognized because of the distorted finger or other joint areas.
Is that a dog?! Poor animal!
Dude, you caused all of this. And I put your dog through this too. You’re awful. Your dog looks thirsty. He or she is standing in a hot sun with no water
Min 16:56 The guy painted the dog's ears pink, if I were a cop I would have arrested him for that!
If the beaches are posted with no camping signs no need to give him 15 minutes. If they find him camping the violation has already taken place, go ahead and trash the stuff.
They look around and see other campers. People go by that, not walking up to all the signs to see if anything new was posted. It would take police riding around using a megaphone to get them to read the signs. They are not bothering but I think they should or at least send life guards out, something official enough to explain.

Governor Newson has presidential aspirations, and the homeless has been a burden on him. It’s been years of understanding and tolerance with lots of money thrown at the problem with practically nothing to show for it. Now he’s taking a aggressive approach.

Voting time again and thus they NEED to clean things up until after November.
They gave him a weeks notice before to move his stuff or it will be trashed.
