Another incredible video Captain. I am so appreciative of the time and effort you put in to upload this content. It’s so informative and unlike anything else on TH-cam. I really hope you continue this for ages because it is the best!
Thanks for your very kind feedback! The postproduction of the videos always takes a good amount of time. Maybe I slow down a little in the future. But I will continue publishing videos for sure.
Thanks for watching and for sharing your helpful feedback! Right now, I am not sure if I do the post production of our ground ops and departure from this flight because even the approach video only got very limited number of views until today.
Once again, thank you for another great video, Captain. I am so happy to be a part of this channel. We need some good cheer in the UK right now and your videos keep a smile on my face. ☺
Thank you so much for your kind words and for your financial support of the channel as a member! Without the members these videos would be impossible! Thanks again and all my best wishes to the UK!
Nice. Was flying Munich to Monastir 6 weeks ago with Discover :-) thanks for the video! Your flights to Monastir save me 2 hours of travel from Tunis to Sousse one way on each business trip. 👍🏻
Thanks for watching and for sharing your good feedback! It's good to hear that the direct flights to Monastir are saving you 2 hours of travel time! Have a nice day!
Another great video Captain. Every Saturday morning it has become routine for me to watch your upload and always enjoy them. Thank you for your time and content.
Thanks Captain for another great flight. Interesting location for an airport.... I read Monastir on Dept./Arr. boards sometimes, but so far I didn't know where it is exactly. Now I know, looked it up on Maps, too. Thanks again, always looking forward to my "Sunday Captain's treat"!
Thanks for your good feedback! As soon as I am scheduled to Krakow I will try to make a video. But it may take a while because my duty schedule is always a surprise.
I agree. But no problem. 1 hpa is just 30 feet difference in altitude. And, in addition, the weather was fine. Thank you very much for your financial support of the channel as a member! Have a nice day!
What a beautiful livery and plane. The 30 mins or so vids are my favourite . Thank you for uploading. I'm curious to know whether you require a pushback from that parking spot?
Thanks for watching and your great and helpful feedback! We always need a pushback if we are not able to leave the parking position straight or to the right or to the left with forward thrust without hitting an obstacle, other airplane or building. Usually there are some painted lines on the ground if we can leave without pushback. Sometimes we even have to do a pushback if there would be more than enough room to leave on our own. We have to accept the local procedures.
Yes, the wind was changing during the approach and there was some tailwind during the landing. The indication on the ND must not be 100 % correct as it is not measured by a real anemometer. It is calculated on the basis of several data. The reference wind for our airplane landing limits is the measured and announced wind from the tower. It was not more than 8 knots.
Can I ask what the VLS check is and how it is calculated? I'd guess its amending what the FMGC thinks the speed should be for given wind adjusted to 'real world' but I'd be interested to know the details if possible. Fantastic video once again!
VLS has nothing to do with the wind. It has to do with the weight of the airplane and the resulting minimum speeds. Depending on the software and hardware standard of the airplane 2 different VLS (which means lowest selectable speed) values are calculated. One from the FAC on the basis of aerodynamical data (Angle of Attac) and the entered CG (center of gravity) location. And the other by the FMGC on the basis of the entered Zero Fuel Weight plus the fuel on board. The FAC VLS is displayed on the PFD and the FMGC VLS is displayed on the MCDU. If the VLS on the PFD is higher than the MCDU VLS, we add the difference to the approach speed.
Nice flight, always good to wake up to this on a Saturday morning I notice that you don't use the push to talk button when speaking to the ground crew, do they hear everything that you say in the cockpit?
Thanks for watching and for your good feedback! If the interphone is "hot" on, then the ground crew can hear what we say. Alternatively, we can keep it off and just use the push to talk switch when we say something which is relevant for the ground crew.
Thank you for making these videos. I always enjoy watching them. Is it correct that a few metres above the runway, less correction for wind is needed because there is a wing in ground effect which stabilises the air? Or are the same corrections needed right until the wheels touch ground?
Thanks for watching! Usually, the windspeed is getting less when coming close to the ground. If it is a full or partial crosswind, the required wind correction is getting also less when the windspeed is reduced or the wind turns into a direct head or tailwind.
Watching all your videos and I learn a lot about aviation, Would be a pleasure to travel with you and your company eurowings feels so quiet and relaxing. I am curious how is the Atc call sign assigned ? Is it inique for every aircraft or it depands by the route ? Please help me understand. Thanks a lot!
Thanks for watching all my videos! I hope to see you soon on board! It depends, the ATC callsign can be the flight number which is also printed on the tickets. Most of the flights get a random callsign to avoid confusion of similar callsigns in high density traffic areas. These random callsigns are introduced by our operations control center and reused every day for the same flight on the same routing and time of the day.
3 and full are both Airbus approved flap positions for a manual landing. 3 needs a little less fuel, but the approach speed is about 5 knots more than at full. So flaps 3 requires a little longer landing distance and some more braking. Pitch is about 2 degrees or so higher with flaps 3. The pilot flying decides what he or she wants to use.
The current weather, the weight of the airplane, the runway length and condition, the facts which I described in the answer to your question and the mood of the pilot. For example: If you have to land a heavy plane on a short and wet runway, you want to approach as slow as possible. This means flaps full may be the better option in this case.
I understand the ground crew is connected to the nose gear bay. Are they connected to the intercom? Does it function as a hot mike (they can hear the crew talking) or is there a PTT system? Is there a need to use the INT/RAD button on the ACP?
Thank you so much for your financial support of the channel as a member! The ground crew is connected to the interphone. If the interphone is switched "hot" in the cockpit with the switch in the INT position, the ground crew can hear everything we say. We also can do it with the RAD switch. But then we do not hear the other pilot over the interphone. Using the RAD switch, the ground crew hears only what we say when we hold the switch.
Very nice video and landing; I wanted to ask.. but in aeronautics do you pronounce the number 3 as tree? Thanks and have a good weekend to all the crew.
Thanks for your good feedback and for being a long time viewer of my videos! In aviation we shall pronounce 3 as TREE and 9 as NINER. Have a nice weekend!
That tower wind report was extremely optimistic lol. The box was estimating 200@10 most of the way in, and right at flare briefly hit 210@15 or so.... 180@08 my foot!
There was - for sure - some tailwind. But our wind on the navigation display may also not be 100 % correct because it is a calculated wind and not a wind measured by an anemometer. For our landing limits, only the official measured wind from the tower has to be used.
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos my assumption is that the WAAS-enabled GPS should be getting a pretty darned accurate measurement of the wind (when combined with accurate airdata ofc)
Sometimes we see differences in wind indication even between the right and left side in the cockpit. This is due to small differences in air data and position. We do not have WAAS-enabled GPS receivers. For our landing limits only the official tower anemometer wind reading has to be used.
10 knots are always ok. But the limits are based on the tower wind, not on our displayed wind on the ND. Wind from the tower was with not more than 8 knots for sure in limits.
Herr Buntenbach, at 1.20min, you said: ‘Runway is long enough’. I hope this was a joke! Because otherwise you couldn’t fly with this airplane to Monastir and you should have stayed in Düsseldorf. Love your video’s though
You are right! It was a joke! Our runways are always long enough. If the runway in Monastir would not have been long enough, we would not have departed to Tunisia. In flight, we recalculate everything and find out which reverse and brake setting we need to slow down along the runway and to leave where we want or have to leave to the apron.
