I love my Glock. It’s the only pistols I own. But no matter how you pitch it, a safety in my eyes is something that prevents the gun from firing when the trigger is pulled in ANY way, and the Glock does not have that. That being said, to quote someone from a earlier comment, “the best safety is a functioning brain and a proper holster”. And if you can’t handle the gun without accidentally pulling the trigger, you shouldn’t own any gun.
Saying "if you can’t handle the gun without accidentally pulling the trigger, you shouldn’t own any gun" is like saying "if you can't drive a car without crashing, you shouldn't be owning a car." Guess what. Shit happens, often outside of our control. A manual safety on a firearm is akin to a seatbelt in a car.
My only issue is that it's actually, "if you can't handle the gun FOR HOWEVER LONG YOU OWN IT AND HOW MANY TIMES YOU USE IT without EVER (NOT ONCE) accidentally pulling the trigger OR GETTING A PIECE OF CLOTHES CAUGHT IN THE TRIGGER GUARD, you ..." It just takes one lapse, one mistake, one time taking a shortcut, one time being complacent. You need to be 100% mistake free. Not many people can do that in anything. That said, you could say the same thing about a manual safety on an SA gun or the decocker on a SA/DA gun. If you forget to engage it just once, you're holstering with a hair (SA trigger). Or, if you forget to disengage a safety when you draw just once, you could be *click* "shit!" *boom* dead. About the safest you could be would be carrying a very heavy DAO, but then it's hard to hit anything fast. Either way, training is the key to keeping the chance of a mistake as low as possible.
Dude! Quit the krap ! There have been many holster discharges on Glocks , SIG , and Walthers. Guns tgat dont have external safety. The safe way to carry Glock is not to chamber a round. I'd rather FUDD it with 1911 , 2011, M9 ,or M17 . Guns that do have real safety.
