    My dad was so proud of himself when he got a 20.000 lumen light for €12 or so, while my 4000 lumen Acebeam had cost around €100. Made me look like an idiot at dinner for spending so much, then we went outside and you can guess what happened. I don't think the thing he got was even 200 lumens while I was fully lighting up a tree 100 metres away. To add insult to injury, I later found that exact the light on Aliexpress for €4. It was one of those lights you find under 100 different brand names and as many spelling errors in the advertisements, but they are all just clones of the same piece of trash made out of 100% chinesium.

    As some other have mentioned, there are good quality, inexpensive flashlights. Convoy S2+, S11, Sofirn SP32A or SP33v3. Some of them deliver way more than 2000lm for under 40 Dollar. They are perfectly suited for everyone, who just needs a flashlight, to have a flashlight. And if you you have a more special usecase, i strongly suggest, that you check forums like the Budgetlightforum and ask for suggestions. And while nitecore certainly is a good brand, they aren't perfect for anyone nor anything. And buying by brand is always stupid.

    He has right when he is speaking about those flashlights from Aliexpress, 99% of them are crap,but there is another 1% where you can really buy cheap and good flashlight, I have some of them. Another part are batteries, for example Nitecore 3400 mah, about 20 usd, it is rewrapped unprotected Panasonic 18650B (3 usd), and protection board (0.50 usd), so they pump the price 5 times to the cell, greedy.

    Nice vid. Thanks. However the ANSI standard is not the best representation for flashlights especially when it comes to runtime. It does not take into account how the output of the light actually behaves over the runtime. There should be runtime vs output graphs included with lights. Then you will be able to really tell how your lights including tactical lights behave over time. Some lights claim 1800 lumens and is only 1800 lumens for 1 min then drop down to 800 lumens for a 2hrs then drops down to 200 for 1 hour then to 180. ANSI standards would say 1800 lumens and runtime would be 3 hours. But the consumer believes they have an 1800 lumen flashlight for 3 hours which they do not. In reality they have an 1800 lumen light for 1 min. Companies should strive for better and provide real/truthful graphs.

    Nitecore was the brand that got me into flashlights, my dad bought me a P12 about 6 years ago for my birthday and I've carried it nearly every day since. I have plenty more modern flashlights and gimmicky flashlights but I always end up with the old Nitecore for work because it's just so rugged and the patina is awesome 😎 I need to pick up a new Nitecore with a 21700 and a neutral white beam if there is such a thing

  • @gleamywolfspirit8181
    @gleamywolfspirit8181 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Before I know Nitecore, I bought a lot of stupid lights. I bought one the same as the fourth one shown in the video, which has four blue battery indicators near the button. They use xhp70.2 and can produce more than 1000lm when turned on. The problem of those lights is they dim after about 5 minutes, becoming less than 200lm. There is no circuit design or anything, and the light does not even get hot. They only use those simple MOSFETs to supply some current, and there is no heatsink for those chips .I guess it is because thoes chips get hot. Some of the fake lights may also have some thermal conductive silicone on those chips, but this "four blue battery indicators" does not. Another point to make is that those fake ones are big, heavy, and blocky. There is no mean to carry such a big chunk around. In addition, I also measured the capacity coming from those fake lights, they usually measure less than 600mAh, and the Nitecore charger indicates poor for them, as their internal resistence are >=0.5Ω.

    • @gleamywolfspirit8181
      @gleamywolfspirit8181 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am actually very impressed by how hot those Nitecore lights, and some other good brand lights, get. Although I did not measure it, other TH-cam channels did. They reach more than 100℃. They manage to push the LEDs to their limit without crashing them. I mean I crashed many LEDs myself. It is hard to manage without specialized manufacture level design.

      My trusty Surefire C2 has never let me down but I thought I'd get something a little cheaper to run, I ordered an i4000r (NOT direct) but it didn't show up so bought a P20i incase the 4000 did ever show. I can say I have also bought a few other pretty damn good lights but overall the P20i is my go-to right now, the instant access to turbo & strobe is a winner for a start, who want's to cycle through modes or have to have the light on before being able to access turbo!? I want turbo when my eyesight picks up something I feel needs 'looking at', then I want INSTANT full power, the P20i does this better than any other light I own. It's not the brightest, or the longest thrower BUT if you wan a decent tactical light you can't do a lot better IMHO. --- As to the video above slating battery holders when they provide them with some of their own lights all-beit for CR123s & not AAAs and giving the reason being for a lack of 'voltage' is a little misleading, not enough current maybe. Also about time people trying to sell lights stop with the lumen blag & start providing better candela data when comparing lights, it's not all about brightness, we need/want to know about intensity. *I have an Acebeam L17 (TIR lens) & I'm impressed with the throw on that.

    Man I totally agree with you, those aren't good flashlights, but I wanted to point out that the Wuben C3 is 1200 lumens, and it's $26.00 on Amazon. Wuben is a legitimate company, has been since 1981, it's type-c fast charging, comes with high quality 18650 and takes cr/rcr 123 batteries. Very similar to the Nitecore MH11 as far as simplicity and the tail switch are the same both also tailstand , just more of a flood beam and cheaper price. I own both.

      This is true; however, and I'm a Nitecore fan, all inexpensive lights aren't complete junk.
      I have a Sofirn SP35 I bought for $38, and my eyes can't distinguish any difference in performance between it and my P20i; they both use the SST40, a 21700 battery, and claim about the same throw.
      I believe the SP35 has a 363-yard throw compared to the P20i's 375; pretty darn close; that said, the SP35 doesn't have a tail switch, spring-mounted battery, stainless steel head, or ceramic glass breaking tips which make the Nitecore, by far the superior torch.
      Still, for the average Joe looking for something to use around the house, or maybe camping, the SP35 at $38 is a heck of a deal.

    lol @ 10:33 i had some of those batteries and they were rubbish
    why?
    well i opened one *don't try that at home folks* because something inside was loose, and instead of a tightly packed battery, it was a 3rd of a 18650 lithium cell with a very low density , which had been badly spot welded ( the light would work intermitantly or badly flicker) and the - lead had broken free , plus it felt like it weighed the same as a feather (an out and out sign you have a fake)
    it also came with a 12 volt car charger who's parts consisted of two resistors and an led , one resistor was for the led and the other for the battery
    now anyone who knows about lithium cells knows they need to charge up to 4.20 volts, anything over that and you risk thermal runaway (maybe they thought they could get away with using such a low density cell so no-one would know)

    Xanes lights on banggood are all underpowered, i bought a 2x XML T6 light from them and the power draw at max brightness was only 3.5W
    if the driver itself was better it would've been capable of the "1600Lumen" without an issue, i've verified the max power of the leds themselves and they definitely take 10W each for a long time and they're pretty bright aswell, so i'm sure they're legit ones (one good thing about it atleast) as they're only a bit less bright than my genuine Cree XP-L's

    @claudiuisar 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    There are many good flashlights on Aliexpress if you know how to search and what to choose. :) They perfect for the average consumer. Also, I don't agree that the cartridge for 3 AAA batteries is a bad things. I have many powerful flashlights which use it. Led Lenser also uses it on many of theirs - you can't say that is a cheap or fake brand ;)

    • @NitecoreSG
      @NitecoreSG  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That depends on how you define ‘powerful’. How is 3xAaa better than a 18650 or 21700? The runtime of it is so poor. Especially if the light is bright, the battery capacity is too low for each AAA. Not practical at all to power high lumen lights

    • @wolw66
      @wolw66 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      As it't very dark in Sweden during winter, if you want to take a long powerwalk after work it'll be pitch black outside, especially in the forest.
      I usually take a 10 km walk, last week I took my Led Lenser H7.2 (3XAAA). I thought it was quite all right. First 10 km evening walk, didn't use full power but almost, warning for low battery started at 9.5 km.
      I had already decided to get a Nitecore headlamp before that, as the Led Lenser didn't have either as bright or as good beam as I wanted. I did have my brand new Nitecore New P30 with me.
      Ended up ordering a HC60 headlamp and a MH10S . Tactical (with rear power button) isn't too practical walking, prefer a side switch instead.
      Super happy with my New P30 !!!

    • @budgetlightph7814
      @budgetlightph7814 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not really against 3xAAA cartridge and I use them just for the sake of not getting my AAAs wasted since i have a lot of them. They're really not that good in powering my flashlights as 21700 or 18650 does. On my experience, one cartridge could last me an hour but if I used my 21700, it lasted me more than 5 hours. If you want to continue using AA or AAA lights however, it's best to stick to dedicated single or double cell lights. They would last longer and perform better because they're designed for those batteries.

    You can build a Convoy S2+ with an XHP50.2 led and produces 2500~ lumen's for $20.... saying a 2000 lumen flashlight for $30 doesn't exist is a bold faced lie... You keep going on about ANSI ratings but the NITECORE-MH12S doesn't even reach 1800 lumen by ANSI standards I have one and measured it in a Lumen tube with a calibrated sensor and at ANSI standards which is measured 30 seconds after turn on with a fresh cell the NITECORE-MH12S only measured 1400~ lumens..... I've built a Convoy S2+ with the same SST-40 LED and it measures over 1500 lumens by ANSI standards for less than $15 USD...
