And we're back from our short break with the first Honest Government Ad of the new decade. A lot has already been said about the devastating fires this summer. But one thing that's gone under the radar is our government's sneaky change in rhetoric about climate change policy. In 2 short months they've gone from denying the connection between emissions and more intense fires, to: "yeah climate change is real and now we must adapt to it" As well as being a pathetic case of no-leadership (yay lets skip the bit where we fight to mitigate climate change while we still have time left, and go straight to telling us its inevitable and we need to adapt), this also signals an extremely fucked up shift in policy - and one that if we accept will pretty much seal our fate. That's why I picked this topic for our first Honest Government Ad of the 2020s: coz this shift sets the stage for what's coming in the years ahead - and not just from the Australien Government, also from other governments owned by fossil fuel interests. So let's nip this shit in the bud, shall we.
Note: I intentionally didn't focus this video on the bullshit conspiracies. Firstly because I reckon we should stop letting people who don't listen to scientists frame the discussion and waste the little precious time we have left; and secondly, bc they've already been dealt with by journos and other satirists (kudos to Friendlyjordies for his amazing coverage in particular). So hopefully that explains why I didn't talk about Teh GrEeNs and ArSoNnistsS - other than a quick honourable mention at the very start.

2 days ago, Fresh from his unsuccessful tilt for the Nationals' leadership, Barnaby Joyce (and his supporters) have come out saying they will block their own government (cause they also lost the cabinet reshuffle too) and said their first priority is coal-fired plants should be given more government support, subsidiaries, and infrastructure spending from the coalition. WTF!!!

Aus. has approx 62K total fires annually. 31,000 are Arson Crimes.
That’s one arson fire per 800 population.
Compare that to California with 7k total arson fires (wild and urban), that’s one arson crime per 5k population.

We've had a few politically Conservative "Modern Christian Fundamentalist" leaders lately in Australia. Conservatives used to have a more logical approach to government vs the Emotional policy leanings of the left, but praying for answers rather than using science is a worrying trend and I don't like it.
It might sound weird but your videos give me feelings of hope because it makes me aware that there are still people out there who actually care and have a conscience. I stumbled upon your channel by accident and apparently you have been busy for years and I've missed out on all of that (it was never recommended for obvious reasons. The YT algorithms work in magical ways mostly recommending me butts of "mega talented" superstars and useless DIY videos about how to light your house on fire in the most effective way. Lately I'm also getting a lot of recommendations for videos of inspirational and motivational speeches and I really wonder why in this messed up depressing age of manipulation).
Not weird at all, I think that's what a lot of people find too - it's certainly the reason why we make them, so we can "find the others"!

The IPCC report has 3,000 scientists working over 25 plus years 40 hours a week, and has 900 expert reviewers checking for errors.
That's the science that informs me. Not a wildlife documentary.

@John Ryan Even if most of what you said is true (and I definitely buy that at least some of the global ruling class are pedos), that wouldn't make them communists or socialists. Governments puppeted by the wealthy suggest capitalism in an advanced stage ("crony" capitalism, as John Roche described it). Those who own the wealth get it by using their privately-owned capital as leverage to extract surplus value in the form of profit from the labor provided by the masses in exchange for wages. That sort of class hierarchy, currently characterized by the relationship between workers and capitalists, and previously characterized by lords exploiting serfs and masters exploiting slaves, lies at the root of or aggravates almost every other social problem. The world's rulers wouldn't feel so comfortable kidnapping and molesting kids (allegedly) if their position as capitalists/billionaires didn't make them feel so invincible. That sense of invincibility must be challenged eventually, and the empire in its existing form must collapse sooner or later.

Whats crazy as a fellow American in a fire prone area is that we have just got fucking used to it. we never go a summer without a 10,000-acre fire within 20miles of my home rapes our forests, and burns our land and farms and destroys wildlife. Kinda sad tbh but since it happens all the time we just go ehh. What's worst is 1/2 of the fire fighting assets from the government or hired as contractors never do anything but sit at fire camps because fires started by people are natural and should be left to do their thing. Then the fires get massively out of control and everyone goes oh fuck. Good time, stay safe out there man

For instant in uk u couldnt open new pharmacy close to another pharmacy, this eliminates the competition, keeping the existing rich pharmacies in central area rich.

Meanwile two years later and even Switzerland is burning to the ground right now and we have a nice and cosy 40 °C with feels like 45 °C temperature. And when I walk 09:00 AM with my huskies in the forest and almost get a heat-stroke several times at the age of 40 with a healthy no smoking/trinking athletic body, I can greet all the nice people that are cutting down the trees right now in our forests.
But he, during my 15 km walk I did pick up a plastic bag someone lost, so all is fine.
