"Daleks have no concept of elegance" "This is obvious." It's been 13 years and I've never figured out how a cyberman could come up with such a sick burn...

Torchwood was referenced a few times, at least once in Series 1. In Bad Wolf, one of the answers to the questions that Anne-Droid asks is: "Torchwood." And the question was about an old Earth institute. Fun fact: When the show was revived in 2005, the tapes were actually named "Torchwood" just in case someone attempted to steal them.

This review reminds me why I loved the RTD era of the revival series. Sure it had some flops here or there but most the episodes were always a blast to watch and Army of Ghosts/Doomsday remains as the best season final this series has had in my books.
I thought about the parallel doctor idea when I was watching and it only takes a little bit of tying together to understand why there wouldn't be. The Doctor says in the Cyberman episode prior to this when they first go to the Parallel universe that the Time Lords used to be able to travel between dimensions easily when they were keeping everything in check. This means that as far as time lords go, there aren't Parallel versions of them, only one version of each timelord exists across all parallel dimensions. This means that since our lovely Doctor is the Last Timelord, and he is stuck in "our" reality and that the only way for him to have gotten to the parallel universe was by falling through a crack in space-time, which was a big part of the previous episode that meant that they had one shot of getting back (and Mickey staying behind to be with his Parallel gran) that there is no Parallel Timelords and no Parallel Doctor. Timelords are exempt from Spacetime as we know it and is why they are able to travel through it so effortlessly.
I LOVE THIS TWO-PARTER! SO NOSTALGIC, YET SO EPIC!!! Re-watched it and it still holds up. The only thing that I find problematic is how Rose was saved. THE TELEPORTERS CAN ONLY TRANSPORT ONE AND HE JUST POPS OUT OF NOWHERE! But it one moment amongst Torchwood, Cybermen AND Daleks! The cliffhanger to Army Of Ghosts is one of my favourite moments in the show. CHILLS every time the Cybermen says "The sphere is not ours" and the operatic Dalek theme plays as Rose looks scared shittless XD
At 9:46 you reference the head scientist getting his "face sucked off by a Dalek". I'm sure this is just a coincidence but I gotta mention it: the actor playing the head scientist is Raji James, who was the butt of a lot of jokes on the Ray Peacock Podcast, including but not limited to a segment where they asked him how it felt to get his "head sucked off by a Dalek": th-cam.com/video/Az6nzXrU_eY/w-d-xo.html God I miss that podcast. Also hey congrats on being rich now.
I love the music that starts right when Pete brings Rose to the other side. It has steady backbeat drums, and we haven’t really heard this kind of drum beat in the soundtrack before this point. It’s interesting because backbeat drums usually instill a sense of groove and cheerfulness, but in this context I find the drum beat absolutely heartbreaking. It gives a strong sense of “here we are, this is it.” Like, we’ve arrived at this point and there’s no going back. Murray Gold is a genius
I love how the strangely human aspect of Sec that would be amplified in Daleks in Manhattan was established here, in our first meeting with him. He feels excitement, he feels joy in explaining things, in sharing his knowledge (whilst yes it is a cruel excitement, it is still an emotion that Daleks should not be feeling.)
I think the biggest waste was bringing the cult of Skaro in, then destroying them the next time we see them. Having Sec and the crew coming back as familiar faces and developing some sort of respect or bond with the Doctor could have offered so many possibilities.
@@Here_is_Waldo true, they were horribly under-utilised, but I think the destruction was a great idea on RTD’s part in setting up the Stolen Earth and Caan’s survival and subsequent fall to absolute madness
It would be humiliating for sec if he got captured by the cybermen in his human form and forcibly converted, imagine how angry he'd be if he was now inside a cyberman forced to fight his own daleks then getting gunned down by his own kind 😳 Wasn't very clever was it sec to become human now was it?
