Gutted you didn't talk about that scene where the dying cyberman talks about how she was supposed to get married. Gave me chills that.
If I remember rightly in the original script it was supposed to be a child.
@@paladinboyd1228 Jesus, that would be somehow too dark
@@paladinboyd1228 Christ Russell
@@mattAVFC44 doctor who is at its best when it’s darker

The "breathed 10 years of my life" bit is now redundant since chib made the doctor immortal
But any normal person regards the Chibnal/late Moffat bollocks non-canon.
Each to their own obviously but c’mon bruh
@@skilledarma true true. I would like to forget a lot of chibnall stuff.
@@tattieverb265 only episodes I’ve seen since Moffat started loosing it (debatable when) is the Skaro one with Missy and the Capaldi cybermen episodes with John Simm.
Literally haven’t seen anything else and I’m happy I kept it that way lmao

“Each role fitted the characters well. Especially Rose, who was tasked with showing no emotion.”
I mean damn.
Did you know that it's illegal in the UK to show a fake broadcast that could be mistaken by someone as real? That's why they do the stupid filming the TV shots because that's the only way they're allowed to do it!
Goes way back to the shitshow radio broadcast of War of the Worlds. Back then people weren’t so familiar with the work of H.G Wells, and CBS saw no need to put a disclaimer saying the radio show was a work of fiction (this was an American adaptation by Orson Welles) Needless to say people going into mass panic mistaking the audio play for genuine news coverage made them realise pretty quick. I’ve heard about people going as far as killing themselves to avoid being taken by evil Martians, however I’m not certain how factual that is
@@tyler_bt3326 I think the last bit is a bit of an exaggeration. The most of it was that some people got convinced it was real and then tried to cause a big stink about it, so this new law was put in place to shut them up.
@@bobmalone3726 yeah I’ve always questioned how valid the claims surrounding that broadcast were
there was probably some looting and preparations for martians made in smaller towns but it probably wasnt too much
I always had nightmares of this 2 parter. The idea of a corpse inside a metal shell first dawned on me in this episode and it gave me vivid pictures in my head on what it would look and feel like.. that alone scares me
That Murray Gold Cyberman theme, so good. It manages to not only give that unstoppable force feel but also manages to give that impression of someone reaching out for help almost. Like notes of the music you highlighted when presented lightly have a sympathetic almost lost sound to it.
The Cybus Industries cybermen were the best
I keep up with Mondasian Cybermen most fans probably will say the same, i guess, but everyone still hate the "The Wheel In Space" and "Nightmare In Silver" Iron Man Cybermen after all.
Defo they fuckin ruined them
@@BringHimHome24601 I got say but Defo Who.
I would of loved to of seen the mondas and cybus have official allines
@@devwilson6301 That never happen on screen but can be debated that some of this Cybermen are half Mondasian and half Parallel Word combine together so maybe yes than did happen.
As a child i was never scared of the daleks, however these cybermen had me petrified
Same
I always thought the daleks were super goofy. The cyber man themselves aren’t that scary but the whole mutilating people into being cyberman will always be unnerving. The “lion sleeps tonight” is always fucking frightening
Daleks just want to kill you, as a kid the idea of a quick death doesnt really resonate. But the Cybermen will straight up torture you and then keep you alive for as long as possible, that shits scary
Aww I wish you appreciated the “some idiot” scene where the doctor references Mickey (and it all ties in to Micky wanting to escape the doctor, being the ‘metal dog’)
Brilliant review, as always
11:26 They already had a catchphrase... just look at any 1980s Cyberman story. "Excellent!"
an *EXCELLENT* observation there... (clenches fist like a badass)
@@cadefoster500 The Trampoline is ready!
It is a shame you did not bring up the horrifying moment when the doctor and Welsh woman found a cyberman who remembered who she was and that she was about to get married.
Can we point out the the Doctor has been Calling Mickey “Ricky” since he first met him? Both names are right depending what universe you’re in.
Yep
I think that was the point
That is a funny thing lol; do love little things like that.
We need another parallel world that introduces us to "Hickey".
Me: Its Christmas I should wait until tomorrow before watching TH-cam videos.
Also me: Hey look, it’s a mega review of Age Of Steel
I was gonna say with the Party scene and Rose and The Doctor getting in with the psychic, I always just assumed it worked because Jackie and Pete hardly knew anyone at the party.
Bro your "we surrender" bit had me in stitches lmao
"I will upgrade only with my last breath!"
"Come on, grandad, your Motorola is falling apart"
This has to be one of my favorite two parters in the entire series. The Cybermen are freaking terrifying and the setting is really interesting. I always come back to these episodes when I wanna see quality Doctor Who.
I love these episodes. The speech the Doctor makes to the Cyber Controller is particularly amazing, I always have that on standby as pretty much the perfect argument against fascism.
Works pretty well for Communism too.
@@WaspCameraInSpringfield yep
any sort of authoritarianism really, and its a surprisingly good argument for capitalism
Not too sure about the upgrading angle myself.
It starts the trend of using Cybermen to explore a fear of technology. There's so much more to these great villains, glad World Enough and Time understood that even if it took a while to get there.
i think its rlly cool that these modern cybermen come from a parallel earth and in the classic era the cybermen came from mondas, earths twin planet drawing a clear comparison between the 2.
Ctrl the population.
Alt them into machines.
Delete hostile elements.
Ahh, the unexpected Christmas present.
"THIS IS A SURRENDER!" - The Docter 2006
Cybermen in new Who were only good in season 2. Its good to see them reach such heights coupled with good character development.
Yeah cause world enough doesnt exist
I've never been in a patron shoutout video, I had a double take when I heard my name!
That "We surrender!" ending edit was hilarious!
The only way that could be stopped was if the lead cyberman decided to strangle the screaming Tennant, shut that B up lol
I find it interesting that the villain was almost a parallel to Davros. Bound to a wheelchair and trying to improve life to fit his vision...
Yeah, Trigger was never the same after being let go from the council
Idk why, but In my head canon I like to imagine Alison Docherty was our world's version of Angela Price.
A tortured character who got the happy ending eventually.
the cyber conversion scenes traumatised me as a kid to the scale I get anxiety when trying to overcome the trauma bc my dad decided to keep showing it me on purpose to scare me
Is your dad called Peter Griffin?

😂
Hey harry, great review. Super happy I became a patreon this morning to see your fathers day and this review. Keep it up!
When the people are screaming and the guy says put some music on was very dark.
They were in moonbase, the wheel in space and the invasion as well, all Patrick Troughton stories, William Hartnell had 4 dalek stories and Patrick Troughton had 4 cybermen stories
Yeah no wonder why the Cybermen face him again in "The Five Doctors" this Doctor main villains were the Cybermen and not the Daleks like nearly all other Doctors.
That “we surrender, surrender, we’re surrendering, listen to me we surrender, surrender, surrender, we’re surrendering”, lmao.
Love that edit, makes tennant look like such a bi**h and the cybermen dont care, itd be so nuts if the cyberman decided to strangle the screaming Tennant during the last "we surrender" montage, shut this B up lol!
12:15 you gotta bring him back in future episodes 😂
Remember when this channel was called "Harry's Moving Castle"?
rip the moving castle
Oh my GOSH the painting at 0:52 -- I literally have that in my room, it's like, super unsettling and the lions' eyes are horrifying and blank ahahaha
Hate the stompy cyber men. One of the things that made them great originally was the fact that they were silent. It made it so much creepier
those stomps have been imprinted into my brain since i was a kid i love them
13:14
From what I have heard the BBC have a policy that there can't be anything that can be interpreted as a real news broadcast in something fictional like Doctor Who or other TV programs made by the BBC.
Merry Christmas, Harry! Thanks for the brilliant video 💙
Selwyn Patterson had a pretty good parallel swap, from commissioner of the saint Marie police in our universe to president of the uk in Petes world
This is the first time I've properly checked out your channel, and I have to say you've got me laughing like an idiot. Not only am I getting a nostalgia trip from having Rise of the Cybermen recorded on DVD since 2006, but getting a modern retrospective is very welcome.
In the UK, its Illegal to shoe fake new reports full screen. As people flicking through the channels might take note might see them and believe it! (Its a little stupid) but by showing that the new report is on a tv and the characters are watching it is just a get around.
When Mickey saw that rose was stuck in the same universe with him and without the doctor he probably thought he had a chance until she started blipping in and out of the other universe to see Donna
As a Cyberman fan, I like this as the debut of Cybermen in the modern era
I like how you said my name with an accent... When I'm British 😂 but thanks for trying. (If it helps, it's said "crannih-toe-koe")
What a lovely Christmas present
You get a like for that edit at the end of part ones review, god damn hilarious
Ryan sinclaire would easily be able to sneak through a cybus factory, he never shows any emotions...
Okay the “we surrender” lines had me in tears
It HAS ARRIVED! My FAVOURITE childhood nightmare two parter!!
“You can even get ahold of a gun in Parallel UK too”
Bless your sheltered soul
7:17 just like our universe.
Enjoyed Don Wittherington as the President and enjoy him even more as the Police Commissioner in Death in Paradise
Lumic is one of the most sinister and evil characters in all of Who, until you remember he was in the fucking vicar of Dibley. Try and have the same fear now
Or trigger in only fools and horses 😂
@@gabewelton1239I have expect him to call The Doctor Dave haha
Many years ago I got a cyberman toy for Xmas, and now I get a cyberman review
It's only just occuring to me what a roundabout setup this was to bring Cybermen back. Like we really had to go to different universe and give them a whole new origin? I bet the original pitch was for Cybus to happen up in the main universe (where it would turn out the Mondas lot were behind it), and then they made it a parrallel universe thing just to set up the finale/Rose's exit.
I got an ad just as the TARDIS was about to explode. Now if that isnt cunning, then i dont know what is
Been reading the Berserk manga? That's a review I would really love to see, I love that manga and I don't think it's talked about enough anymore
Ther's a deleted scene where Jake casually mentions that him and Ricky were a couple
One thing I’ve noticed about the cybermen In the more recent Doctor Who (seasons 9-12) they don’t look like robots or cyborgs anymore, when they stand they’re not dead still like these Cybus-Men, but they waver and move around like a human would. Also they’re armor looks like fkn foam and really shows that the attention to detail in doctor who has really fallen over the past years...
I like Rise of the Cybermen and Age of Steel
I don’t remember that news report scene in Rise. Was that scene only included in the UK releases of the episode? I’m in the USA and don’t ever recall seeing that bit. But I do recognize that news anchor from Army of Ghosts.
We're getting there!

If anyone's interested, I'm also reviewing all the Doctor Who stories on my channel, with me already done the first 3 Doctors. No pressure, of course, just might be worth checking out! :)
Harry said he would not review The Idiot's Lanturn because that was mediocre for it.
@@dustin_4501 I mean hey, he reviewed Praxeus
4:49 I took the the wrong way the first time I heard it.
I kinda think this is my all time favourite doctor who story, definitely top 5 at least.
Murray Gold is as big, if not the biggest, of a miss to the current series as any of the previous Doctors, showrunners, directors etc
I think the reason they filmed the tv screens like that is because apparently it's the law that you cannot have fictional televised news footage look genuine so they had to film it in a way to obviously show it's not real.
Not saying they could not have found a better loophole of that law but it explains why they did it.
Amazing Review, of my favourite episodes.
17:00 why is a robot in a chair is my biggest question
Because lumic designed his suit and throne before he was upgraded. And obviously the human lumic thought it was pretty cool:D
"I will upgrade only with my last breath!"
"Then stop breathing."
Good to know that getting turned into emotionless cyborgs does not remove humanity's penchant for dry jokes.
Always been a fan of this episode because of the attention to detail and I would love to be a patron Harry but I’m broke lol anyways have a good day everyone
Favourite who episode ever I remember when I first saw it I remember the Jackie cybermen reveal being so vivid in my head
that ryan line got me rolling
I dont comment ever but you are a top revewer. Truly enjoy these vids

This was the story that made me a doctor who fan. I was watching all of the airings up to this one but this was the one I connected to as a little one. It’s so dark and felt could be real. I love this story to pieces. When it eventually gets written into a target novel I hope they give more time to develop the side characters and by far, make Micky far more important in the story as it’s his shining moment in the show. I want the words to really convey how awful he feels and being torn up by the ripped carpet. I suppose you could say it’s “excellent”
Hey Harry, your Patreon link isn't working. Just wanted to let you know. Love your videos!
I’ve been looking foreword to this
Merry Christmas, i bought some ear pods for you, it would be a great ‘upgrade’ from your ear plugs wouldn’t you say?
You can see a lot of the influence of Spare Parts in this 2 parter. I’d rate this story equally, no real difference in ratings for me.
Equally to spare parts? Each to their own but I'd have to massively disagree. This two parter is great, but Mondas is such a brilliantly realised setting and the characters (especially Yvonne and her family) are some of the best written in any doctor who story. Nothing in age of steel/rise of the cybermen comes close to the scene where Yvonne comes home to her family after being converted.
Should have been Torchwood
Maybe next year
Thanks for this christmas present 😂
I wasn't a huge fan of the story, but after seeing your videos on the Whitaker Doctor, I'm shocked by 7/10 and 8/10 - that's all?
Trigger created the cybermen
just wait until you hear the fist person to be converted was called Dave... 🤣
Reading berserk I see your a man of culture
Great vid Harry, r u reviewing the revolution of the Daleks New Years special?????
They didn’t predict Apple AirPods in advance, they’re wireless Bluetooth ear pieces, they were around for years before this episode was made
The first story I ever watched!
Only 6 days till the new doctor who special
10:15 YOU DID A SWEAR WORD
What if an earpod wearer was driving a car, would it crash or do they stop the car?
You should review Torchwood: Children of Earth.
That would be a banger
Don't you mean "the remake of The Quatermass Conclusion"? It would be fitting, given that the story covered here is a remake of Invasion.
“Peter and Parallel Peter” Paralleter Arc.
I love This two Parter
I think I would have preferred it if the episode names were switched
Part 1 being age of steal
Part 2 rise of the cybermen
Fun fact: Mr Crane played Holly in tv show Red Dwarf
he was also Takis in Revelation of the Daleks... rebelling against one guy in a life support to another... go figure, extra interesting is that this story shares the same director Grahame Harper... so I've always viewed this story like The Cybermen's own spin on Revelation...
They're different actors, Holly was played by Norman Lovett, Mr. Crane is played by Colin Spaull
@@christianwise637 you’re right my mistake
BUT THIS IS A SURRENDER?!
This is my 2nd favorite 2 part Dr Who episode next to family of blood.
Never thought I'd see evil Trigger lol
I always liked this version/design of the cybermen, I never really liked the redesigns that were given for the 11 and 12th series of doctor who.
Berserk! My man
