  • Archaeologists in Maryland are looking for the childhood home of an American hero: Harriet Tubman. Dr. Julie Schablitsky told Inside Edition Digital that she thinks her team is getting close to locating the site of a cabin owned by Ben Ross. Ross was the father of the legendary Tubman, who led dozens of enslaved people to safety via the Underground Railroad. Dr. Schablitsky said, “It's never too late or necessarily too early to begin to look for pieces of our past.” #InsideEdition

They should really be teaching this much more prevalently in schools, beginning in elementary school. This is such an important part of history, and perhaps if children learned all these amazing and inspirational stories at such a young age they could understand the importance of everything that happened and grow up with a comprehension of how things were, and how far we have come, but how much further we need to go.

A fiercely courageous and exceptional woman. One of the most heroic and inspirational people in history. Considering the marginalisation of black history and women's history, the knowledge we have of Harriet's life is precious and rare. One can only wonder about the lives of so many other brave black women and men whose lives will now never be truly known. May they rest in peace.
