  • The GL650 build continues with a full teardown followed by sandblasting and the painting the frame! With all of the necessary fabrication work complete the bike goes down to the bare frame and components so I can begin cleaning and painting them before reassembly!

    I like your work, you make it look easy, but we know it's not, I like the details. You have a world of technical expertise that only comes from your work ethic. I like your video's, keep them coming. Thanks from James an old 1970 750, the second year of production. It was a thrill ride.

      Thanks so much James! Hopefully the videos provide good info to allow others to do this work

    Good idea with the underside plate 👍🏼
    And man I love that 2k clear. Stuff is top notch

    Great work! Your videos have given me the confidence to tackle my very first custom build...hopefully transforming a crashed up GL500 with a seized engine into something.

      You can absolutely do it! Make it how you picture and not only how good you feel your skills allow. Learn and do!

      @@BrickHouseBuilds Exactly the plan! I've built several race bikes...each one getting more and more involved but still mostly component upgrades, new bodywork, design and paint work...but all the engine work has been minor. THIS will be soup to nuts and I'm even planning to learn to weld! Thanks again.

    With regard to the frame, did you not think about powder coating? i got my FZR wheels powder coated and they came up awesome, thinking about getting the subframe powder coated instead of painting.

      Remember, most all of the bikes you see me work on belong to customers with varying budgets. Some small budgets like this and some much larger like the white one. Thats why they go to different levels as not all bikes can get endless one-off fabrication, chrome plating, etc

    Hey dope content! I thought I spied a harbor freight sandblaster in the background there 🤔 what all applications do you normally use it for since I take its not good for frames/wheels?

    • @BrickHouseBuilds
      @BrickHouseBuilds  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank ya Braeden! I use it for carburetors mainly. I have baking soda in it which works well on old carbs and is more gentle than sand or other media as to not damage aluminum.

    Looks great! Fixing to start blasting my GL1100 frame. Did you use any kind of a primer before the VHT paint? Im temped to lay some primer first but im worried about the paint not bonding to the primer. Whats your experience been?

    • @BrickHouseBuilds
      @BrickHouseBuilds  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @dakota-joel7590 I believe the rollbar and chassis paint did not require primer. Having the perfect surface to paint on also made me confident to not use primer

      @@BrickHouseBuilds Pretty sure you're right, I've never used it in combination with that clear but I'm excited to give it a shot! Thanks sir!

    Amazing work as always!
    Thinking of doing this to my CX500 builds. What was the approx cost for the sandblasting? Never went this route, always powdercoated. I'm also contemplating Steel-It then 2K clear.

    • @BrickHouseBuilds
      @BrickHouseBuilds  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! For this I paid like $175 to have blasted but it saved me that in prep time and gave a perfect surface to work from.

    Why don't you powdercoat your parts instead of can spray them ? Is the 2k clear coat strong enough to protect the paint ?
    On my NX650 I powdercoated everything except the engine which was painted with VHT primer, paint and clear coat. However the paint is really not resistant. I am very disapointed in the result.
    I also renovated a enduro Suzuki PE250 last year. That time I powdercoated the engine and it is very resistant. It even resists small rocks I am hitting during enduro trails.

    • @BrickHouseBuilds
      @BrickHouseBuilds  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This was simply a matter of budget. High quality paint and 2k clear is pro level stuff and very strong.

    • @cedricbdo7551
      @cedricbdo7551 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BrickHouseBuilds thanks for the answer. I should have tried this instead of regular VHT clear coat. I'll try 2k next time because down side of powdercoat is that you have to completely empty the engine as the paint has to cure at approximately 200°C.
      Regarding the budget, how much did you pay in cans to paint the frame and accessories? I personally pay around 150 dollars to have the frame and the swinging arm powdercoated. I do the powdercoat myself on small parts, it's even cheaper. Cheaper than spray paint I think honestly.
