    I pulled the trans and transfer case out of my old dodge plow truck...I had to replace the trans and in doing so I got an aluminum transfer case instead of the old heavy cast iron unit...when I was putting the trans and transfer case togeather I apparently didn't get the parking rod lined up...now it's bound up in there and the trans and case are already installed....looks like I might have to remove the valve body to get that shaft lined up...or just eliminate that shaft altogether....all I use the truck for is to plow,

    You obviously have more experience with mopar transmissions than I do. Problem; I rebuilt my transmission, along the same lines as you did an A 727 that sits behind a 400 big block in a 71 plymouth duster. I have NO passing or kickdown gear. I can hand shift and 1st through 3rd are there with no slippage. I adjusted the throttle with the kickdown lever so when carb is wide open trans lever is fully depressed back. NO passing gear or kickdown. Also trans shifts through gears really fast, shifts from first to third by 35 mph. I have pulled the tail shaft and checked and cleaned the govenor, also dropped the transmission pan and pulled the valve body taking it completely apart noting where the ball bearings go. Still the same... One question, this valve body is out of a RV transmission, would that matter? HELP!!!

      Hi dingbat, could be several things going on. What kickdown setup do you have on the car?

    • @dingbat4596
      @dingbat4596 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@andrewsracingtrans The lokar cable, I made sure to get the 1 to 1 ratio so when I go wot the kickdown arm is tagged out. Will the RV valve body have anything to do with it?

    • @andrewsracingtrans
      @andrewsracingtrans  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dingbat4596 rv valve body should be fine, providing it's a 1970-up valve body, which I assume it is.
      Recommend ditching the lokar setup as people have all sorts of problems with them (similar to what you are describing). Use a factory kickdown setup or bouchillon (call them) kickdown setup to get it working right.

    • @dingbat4596
      @dingbat4596 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know th lokar setup is not the best but there is no room for a stock setup beteen the firewall. I tried that first. Is there a chance this is a pressure problem and could you give me the adjustment settings for the valve body just to make sure.@@andrewsracingtrans I

    I recently installed a 727 with a deep pan with no filter extension. I made a huge mistake after full install. Bought 2 gallons and 1 quart, thinking I have 9 total. Wrong. The gallon JUGS only have 3 quarts in them. Not 4 quarts. Started vehicle and drove around block. Filter and pick up never touched fluid. After wife came home, I had her put foot on brake and put in neutral, I was devastated. Lesson learned. Pulling trans out this weekend sending back to shop. Lost 2nd and third gear. Hopefully only driving around block didn’t fry torque converter too. Ugh. Anyway, do I need need a filter extension when using deep pan? And is deep pan good idea for 3200 stall to keep cooler with more fluid? Thanks man great video.

    • @andrewsracingtrans
      @andrewsracingtrans  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes the deep pan will help with cooling. You do need the correct height filter extension depending on what brand pan you're using.

      andrewsracingtrans Great, appreciate the feedback. It’s not a cast one but about 3 inches deep? Not sure if vendor, it just says 727 Torque Flight on the bottom. I really hope I didn’t fry the converter. It wasn’t slipping in first, just felt like I was in neutral when I shifted into 2nd. Reverse felt good, first felt good but not 2nd and 3rd. Ugh.

    Good excuse if my English is not good I'm Venezuelan and I wanted to repair my 727 change some records and set everything back but now my transmission only applies in reverse, but does not apply in D neither 2 nor 1. I would like to know where my Failure, now that I see your video I am doubting the position of the rod that selector of change since here I see that it enters enough, I ask this here my fault, it could not enter complete that rod or you think that something happening more is happening. I advise that I put 11 liters of oil for transmissions in my 727 will be enough, or will I lack oil?

    • @andrewsracingtrans
      @andrewsracingtrans  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Robert Garcia it could be anyone's guess as to what is wrong with the transmission or what may have been done wrong on the rebuild.
      If you have no forward movement, a good place to look is going to be the forward clutch, as this is applied in all forward gears as the name implies.

    • @RobertGarcia-rw3fg

      Thanks for your cordial response, let me explain why the transmission was dismantled, the vehicle was walking and suddenly stopped doing the changes of 2nd and 3rd, I only remain in 1st when I disarm the transmission I found a washer of paste that goes in the pump Broken oil and brass washers worn on the shaft of the worn drum, although I do not disarm them because I thought that was the fault an acquaintance told me that now the governor who is in the queue of the transmission may be failing, is this true?

    • @andrewsracingtrans
      @andrewsracingtrans  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the initial complaint with the transmission was no upshift out of 1st gear then yes there "could" be a problem with the governor that's on the output shaft OR it "could" be a problem with the valve body. In order to obtain upshifts and downshifts automatically, both the governor AND the shift valves in the valve body must be working correctly. The governor and shift valves work together to shift the transmission automatically based on road speed and throttle pressure.
      But, now with your problem of no forward movement, unfortunately the transmission will have to come of the vehicle and be torn down to see what is wrong.

      Thank you very much for your attention my friend, very good your tutorials thanks for introducing us this form of help continues asi. Tomorrow I am going to dismantle the transmission to review piece to piece and thus to have the diagnosis. When I have it I write it here so that all of us through the tutorial can help us.

    Buenos días, amigo de Venezuela. Tengo un problema con mi caja A-727. La caja solo aplica un cambio que se está ejecutando pero no cambia para el 2 ° o el 3 ° y cuando uno acelera, no cambia para nada en el mundo. . El gobernador descansó resuelto y se mantuvo bien, pero tenga en cuenta que mi hijo movió un tornillo que se introduce en el cuerpo de la válvula. Observe que desde que se movió el tornillo, la caja dejó de aplicar. Válvula me puede guiar saludos espero tu respuesta.

    What are the external clues to tell if you have a 904 or a 727? I have a 75 Hornet with a wonky transmission but am not sure which one is in the car.

    • @andrewsracingtrans
      @andrewsracingtrans  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With the transmission still in the vehicle the easiest way to tell would be from below by looking at the shape of the transmission pan. They both have 14 attaching bolts, however the 727 pan has a slight "kickout" in the dipstick tube area, where the 904 does not.
      You can also get the part number on the left side of the transmission pan rail, which will start with the letters PK, and then you can google that part number to see what you have.

    Having an issue swapping out the neutral safety switch on a 727....parts store part, looks just like the one I have now, though plastic plunger may be slightly longer. Car will start fine with it but reverse lights will not kick on with the new switch installed. Old switch is fine but was leaking, possibly at the seal, so I figured just put a whole new one on rather than just a seal......the old one has a seal that is thicker, metal reinforced.....the new one is just a rubber seal. Any ideas?
