thats the one i tuned i for - to see which way the seals on the piston go. it's like its top secret. no one seems to show it - and im afraid its critical.

5:00 Great video of the back of your shirt so we can't see what you're doing for 35 seconds
Sorry, boss. I'm not a professional influencer. Was my first TH-cam video ever and with a crummy camera and (obviously) bad placement. Thanks for the comment and sorry you are not satisfied with the video. 😎
great video
Hi Chris, what are the symptoms of broken overdrive direct snap ring. I have 2 46re transmissions, that don't work right and I forgot what they were doing lol.
Usually no reverse and pieces of the snap ring in the pan.
I had on my Dakota r/t where I'd get a code of trans temp and it would get locked out of od on the freeway. 95 ram 1500 takes a long time to go into gear. Now my 06 Cummins 48re is acting like it can't decide if it wants 3rd or od . I'd like to figure out that before I have to pull that out and do a complete rebuild
@@Moparmaga-1 on the 48re id drive it with a scan tool while viewing live data to look at the governor pressure.
Hi 1ST gear ratio in a 727 is 2 45 so in first gear its actually 2.45 × output shaft speed to be correct. I learnt this from Mr Gill Youner him self , a great man with a world of experience and knowledge bles his soul we will never forget

Thanks Chris. Always reading your posts on FABO. Good stuff. There you have it. All those runs, with a trans brake, not even a bolt in sprag, stock planets, no billet low reverse servo, and it’s in good shape. The 727 is an awesome trans. Keep the mopar world alive Chris.

I pulled the trans and transfer case out of my old dodge plow truck...I had to replace the trans and in doing so I got an aluminum transfer case instead of the old heavy cast iron unit...when I was putting the trans and transfer case togeather I apparently didn't get the parking rod lined up...now it's bound up in there and the trans and case are already installed....looks like I might have to remove the valve body to get that shaft lined up...or just eliminate that shaft altogether....all I use the truck for is to plow,

Love the direct deck info mostwaist almost the whole video before giving specks known as inc pounds or ft pounds on torque wrench keep up the direct points much love to ya mchanic
You obviously have more experience with mopar transmissions than I do. Problem; I rebuilt my transmission, along the same lines as you did an A 727 that sits behind a 400 big block in a 71 plymouth duster. I have NO passing or kickdown gear. I can hand shift and 1st through 3rd are there with no slippage. I adjusted the throttle with the kickdown lever so when carb is wide open trans lever is fully depressed back. NO passing gear or kickdown. Also trans shifts through gears really fast, shifts from first to third by 35 mph. I have pulled the tail shaft and checked and cleaned the govenor, also dropped the transmission pan and pulled the valve body taking it completely apart noting where the ball bearings go. Still the same... One question, this valve body is out of a RV transmission, would that matter? HELP!!!
Hi dingbat, could be several things going on. What kickdown setup do you have on the car?
@@andrewsracingtrans The lokar cable, I made sure to get the 1 to 1 ratio so when I go wot the kickdown arm is tagged out. Will the RV valve body have anything to do with it?
@@dingbat4596 rv valve body should be fine, providing it's a 1970-up valve body, which I assume it is. Recommend ditching the lokar setup as people have all sorts of problems with them (similar to what you are describing). Use a factory kickdown setup or bouchillon (call them) kickdown setup to get it working right.
I know th lokar setup is not the best but there is no room for a stock setup beteen the firewall. I tried that first. Is there a chance this is a pressure problem and could you give me the adjustment settings for the valve body just to make sure.@@andrewsracingtrans I

Since your video there is a company named Goerend that has a spring .020” thicker than stock . I believe they are made by Spirol. World renowned spring maker . Well worth the extra cash.
I know other pin and rivet the metal sprag for high hp diesels . I wonder the rate of failure between the two. Thanks for the video it's interesting I didn't know this was made.
There is also a trick to drill and tap and install a set screw in the 6 o'clock position, just like the early 727s. Most of the RE transmissions I've torn down all had a loose outer sprag cam.
@@andrewsracingtrans my 47re is rocking slightly right now. That's how I stumbled on this video. Boosted lauches cant be helping me out any. I knew diesel guys pinned the rear sprag some pin and rivet. To my surprise it's allot more common to do a bolt in sprag. You learn something new every day.

I have bent wrenches since before I left elementary school. It was a haphazard of having a step father who was an ASE Master Tech for Chrysler. Yes I started by handing wrenches to him while he did side work in the driveway. My summers were spent at his shop cleaning and being a housemouse. Beat chips and the crappy 3 stations we had in the 80's on TV. I have always had a sever addiction and love of flying. The majority of what is used in the mechanical world in the last few decades are the product of Aviation and Military. If we are talking durability and performance. I don't give 3 rotor blades about a jet that can do Mach 27. If it can't do it over and over it was just a lot of money wasted. At 15 I took apart a whole 1956 Ford F-100 that had been in my father's family it's whole life. I had ambition to make it new. I had it running and driveable out of my own pocket. It was taken apart when I was told by my mother it wasn't mine. Joined the Army as a Helicopter mechanic. I am now an A&P and dig Titanium. Trucks, Bikes, Cars all became hobby. My Harley I studied hard and built so it was juice different. I can run 400 miles in a day. Or put grape juice in and hit the quarter. I built for durability plus a happy face when I twist the wick. My 727 (funny Boeing makes those too) Journey is this. Everyman is on some budget or another. I am just below the 20K level. So I make up for it working on my own stuff. If I have to cut corners and take time (gives me time to give components study/harmony) to save. That is fine. Good things come to those who work hard and wait. With this all said. I was a master driver in the Army and yes HMMWV's under NVG's in the mud at night doing jumps when nobody see's is fun. Now I own a 83 Ram Charger that I am slowly building a 360 Stroker for. EQ heads 2.02 1.60 10.5-1 comp JE-KB or Weisco pistons Hypers, strong valve train (Stock roller lifters, better pushrods, some of dem orange Harland Sharp roller rockers), good 2000-4000 RPMish cam (not sure yet), redline 6,000 ( Piston speed ^v RPM X Stroke Divided by 6 ='s piston speed. 4,000 F'PM should not be exceeded without mods). 4.10 gears dana 60 rear, 44 front, 208 XNSFR case and never larger than 34's. Thinking about a spring lift nothing more than 4" Daily driver, bug on the window. Get out of the city and away. Durable, and able to hold 375-425 Hp 400-450 Ft. Lbs. Yet be my daily when I am not on my bike. I am sold on the reybestos red disks. I would like to find a 5 spool steel planetary gear set, also the large drum that handles more disks. Do not like the factory designed sprag. That was the hippies on LSD playing with first generation computers in the engineering department during tour day at the factory.. So here is what I ask. If you were to build a 727 with everything you know, or maybe if you really know a portion well and not the whole thing. For what I just described. What would be your build sheet? A727 Keep the cash before the crash, leave things alone that don't need messing with, Pay attention to the shitty stuff, build before it breaks, limit it so it never does what we call in the Helicopter world. An Over Speed. Gear head, rotor head and most days trying not to be a Richard Cranium. Part numbers, best prices, small tricks with hand tools. Right now I am blending out the casting flash on my housing. Some say it creates a stress point. I am one who mixes and matches. The build sheet on my Harley makes people shake their heads. Just like my tool box to work on Airplanes. Who makes the best screwdriver? I don't care about brand. Roll in with a Snap-Off family debt that has nothing but Snap-Offs in it. I say go across the street to the bike shop. That's how the Write brothers got started. Every company is better in one department than all others. Real Mechanics on the slow time should talk tools, leadership should encourage it. Time is money and sometimes if the guys get to explain why they have what they have. Then have them compete I.E. Dykes cutting nails. Then the best pair wins. Everyone scraps a company for one that does a better job. Used to smoke when the Snap-Off truck showed up to the hangar. Everyone would run out to pay them dues. Ate a bunch of man hours, not sure what rig was going on. I do know this much. It was in NH and I made a point to be last in line(I loved pissing this guy off). When I stepped on he knew. Him: Yeah you crazy fucking war vet I know I know. Blast ice cream truck music and do you got any of them fold out plastic utility knives that are perfect for shadowing a toolbox after fine honing? Sorry for such a long bullshit rant. Dig on factory ideas made better.
Joe, the 727 internals are very strong by design. I'd get a good high pressure automatic shift valve body, good clutches and bands (rigid 2nd gear band), billet servos and you'd be good. You can upgrade to the ultimate sprag, but it won't be necessary. You can use 4 thick frictions, or 5 think frictions in your stock drum. Get a good (not cheap or restrictive) cooler. I wouldn't use a billet 3rd gear drum. But, in lieu of using the factory drum, I always upgrade to the Ultimate 16 roller sprag. Hope this helps some..
I just ordered one of these! I’m excited to see how well it works to get rid of my loose in the case sprag race.
Yes steel much better , GOOD broject .👍
Tcs out of Langley BC , Ty Sir 👍
You really should offer a DVD of all your TH-cam videos I'd definitely buy one. With up date ones later on.
Man gives a rundown of it, gets tools & parts. And shows you. No 25mn over the head video with 11 ads to go thru. This is my type of content..
At what power level are these required? I have a diesel with the non lockup A518 and have no idea when or if this might be necessary.
If your outer sprag race/cam is loose in the case, then I would recommend the bolt in sprag. A sprag can fail in 1st gear due to misuse or abuse, regardless of the power level. When the sprag fails, the outer sprag race/cam will likely break the case. Bolting it in prevents the case from being damaged.
Great Video, thanks for taking the time to do it...........any 904 tricks you would like to share ? or 46RE
I build the 904 for up to 1000hp. It's a great transmission, and one of the quickest 3 speed automatic transmissions ever produced. I will not build or recommend a 904 for a car with big tires as the sprag is the limiting factor there, and sprag failures will undoubtedly occur in that application. If you have a specific question that needs answering, feel free to call or text anytime! I'm planning to do a few videos on some RE stuff here soon.
Nice WORK Chris
I was thinking that before you said put it in the freezer or Dry Ice , Great minds think ALIKE👍
Ty For SHARING👍
Thanks for posting this. It was very informative. I'm not a real trans builder. I know what I need to know for drag racing and a "freshen up" where they just needed fresh parts. Diagnosing a problem...I'm only now starting to learn about that. What I'm working on now is 727 out of the 62 Fury with the 318 Poly. The trans worked fine, shifted fine, everything was good...EXCEPT it leaked a ton out of the front pump seal. It turned out the converter bushing was bad and the area where the input shaft's sealing rings make contact with the reaction shaft housing. It was just a crappy 3 disk front and rear clutch but I was able to fit an extra set of frictions in the front clutch. The owner, my best friend and roommate, was amazed how good it shifted, how crisp the shifts were and just how much better the trans performed after I built it and put it back in. Then, after several days he noticed it wasn't shifting into third without lifting off the throttle a little. I of course I thought I knew what to do which was to adjust kick down linkage. Which I did but I was so close that it only took one full turn to be perfectly adjusted and the slightly early up shift from first to second streatched out a big but it still won't shift to third unless you lift the throttle pedal slightly and it shifts fine. Any ideas as to what to look for? Thanks, Wayne
I recently installed a 727 with a deep pan with no filter extension. I made a huge mistake after full install. Bought 2 gallons and 1 quart, thinking I have 9 total. Wrong. The gallon JUGS only have 3 quarts in them. Not 4 quarts. Started vehicle and drove around block. Filter and pick up never touched fluid. After wife came home, I had her put foot on brake and put in neutral, I was devastated. Lesson learned. Pulling trans out this weekend sending back to shop. Lost 2nd and third gear. Hopefully only driving around block didn’t fry torque converter too. Ugh. Anyway, do I need need a filter extension when using deep pan? And is deep pan good idea for 3200 stall to keep cooler with more fluid? Thanks man great video.
Yes the deep pan will help with cooling. You do need the correct height filter extension depending on what brand pan you're using.
andrewsracingtrans Great, appreciate the feedback. It’s not a cast one but about 3 inches deep? Not sure if vendor, it just says 727 Torque Flight on the bottom. I really hope I didn’t fry the converter. It wasn’t slipping in first, just felt like I was in neutral when I shifted into 2nd. Reverse felt good, first felt good but not 2nd and 3rd. Ugh.
Great video! small question: I have a Jeep GC 5.2 V8 with a 46rh transmission (A518) with 14 rollers. Is this the right kit for my transmission?
Yes, any 46, 47 (rh or re) or 48re from 1990-2007.
Ok, thanks
@@andrewsracingtrans I have a question when I was changing the sprag it fell apart...if I put it back together backwards...holding the wrong direction...what would it do....asking because the transmission only has reverse and first gear now...
@@marshallmann2171 if the sprag was holding in the wrong direction it would act as if the low reverse band was on all the time and you'd only have 1st and reverse.
