    Just wanted to add clarification. Testosterone DOES NOT cause beard growth nor balding. The actual chemical is DHT, which is a metabolized version of testosterone. You can have high testosterone but lower DHT than others, as the systems that create the two are different. Facial hair follicles are different than scalp follicles, and are actually activated through DHT. However, many men have an allergy in their scalp follicles that reacts negatively to DHT. It ultimately slows blood flow, killing the hairs. Thats why most bearded men are bald. Hope this clears things up

    • @497davidtj
      @497davidtj 2 ปีที่แล้ว +48

      An increase in testosterone is linked to higher dht levels.

    • @Ezz652
      @Ezz652 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      so how do do you avoid getting bald then?

    • @Khomann
      @Khomann 2 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      @@Ezz652 Finasteride is a solid route to go, especially if you're in the early stages. This medicine effectively reduces the amount of DHT the body produces, allowing the hair follicles to receive more blood flow. It has a bad reputation for causing ED, but a few studies have shown the ED rates in placebo groups were nearly just as high as the finasteride group (around 2%). Of course there's always a risk, as with any medicine, but don't let a very vocal minority scare you out of it.
      Minoxidil is also a good choice as it doesn't affect your hormones. It more so acts as a fertilizer for your hair, allowing it to thrive even in DHT heavy environments. The downside is that it doesnt treat the source, and stopping minoxidil means you will be just as bald as if you'd never taken it. This is why there's a myth saying it causes balding.

    • @Khomann
      @Khomann 2 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      @@497davidtj nah you're fine. Beard hair follicles and head hair follicles are different from one another. It seems like the only hair on the human body that goes away with DHT is on the top of the head. Not sure why it evolved that way, but it did lol. Most body hair actually gets thicker with DHT.

      @@user-xb4cr1ym4f yeah man it’s usually an age thing. Both my dad and my grandfather can grow big beards but at 22 mine is still a bit patchy. The guy in this video was explaining it wrong your beard growth is actually caused by an androgen called dht(Dihydrotestosterone) which derives from the hormone testosterone. Dht is responsible for beard growth and overall body hair but is actually the cause of losing head hair hence why most young men with full beards lose their head hair. This androgen isn’t thought to be efficiently converted until about 25 for most males but for most late boomers it’s actually a good thing because you tend to keep a full head of hair and eventually can grow a beard.

    Any man can grow a beard. Full stop. Look into derma rolling and different serums. If you're balding, there are unfortunately very few options. The cool thing about beard hair as opposed to scalp hair is if you put the work in, you can actually increase density and even low density/patchy areas will start to look decent as the hairs get longer. If you've ever been curious, you owe it to yourself to try. Just remember since our genetics are worse, don't expect a full beard in 3 weeks, but if you tough it out through the scraggly phase for 2-3 months and TAKE CARE OF IT: Diet, exercise, wash, oil it, brush it out, stimulate blood flow, etc. you will see your true potential.
    Just wanted to encourage anyone who felt discouraged by his focus on genes. Genes make it easy but if you don't have 'em, you just gotta put in the work.

All i can grow are some sideburns which connect to my neck beard. I have back , chest and belly hair since 16 so i am hairy too and my dad can grow a beard too. Take care of what you have and do the least amount of shaving as possible. Trimming is cool but if you sees by type of hair at all DO NOT SHAVE. Take care of those hairs like you got a full beard and in a years time your patches will fill in. Last year my face didn’t connect at all and today it’s connected. And that’s with inconsistent “beard” care.

    Testosterone level isn’t a factor in beard coverage - it’s simply genetics. The shape and thickness is part of your individual face. All beards are natural and you just need to embrace whatever shape, colour and texture you have. I think too many give up because it doesn’t cover their entire face. Guys with thin beards can look better than guys with bushy beards. You just need to own it.

I get what people mean, since all the testosterone in the world won't do anything if you lack the genes orthe follicles but it is simply wrong to say testosterone has nothing to do with it.

    21 & I have decent face coverage. I’ve got really REALLY fine hair on my head and seems like it runs in the family. Beard seems to grow in the same, really light in the early stages but as it lengthens out it’ll appear darker and fuller. My sideburns are actually finer than the hair on my head so there’s this transition from the thicker beard hairs to the thin sideburns 💀💀. Cheeks grow in slower than my jawline, chin, and stache so it does take a long time of trimming to keep it all even so I don’t have a long and messy jawline but nothing filling in.
    For anyone who has beard hair but it’s thin or light, the only way to combat it is growth & time. Give it a few months to fill out and get some length, then when it’s long enough to manipulate you can cover patches and brush it evenly to get a clean look regardless of how patchy or light it is.

    This video is good, but he's stated quite a few misconceptions. It's your sensitivity to DHT that dictates your beard growth, not testosterone. As you get older, most men become more sensitive to DHT, which is responsible for head hair loss, but also body hair growth. if testosterone was responsible for your beard growth and hair loss, then teenagers would be growing their best beards at puberty, not later on. Its also evident that some people will not expirence hair loss, or body hair growth, regardless if they take testosterone. This is highly dependant on your genes, and certain ethnicities have a higher sensitivity to DHT.

    \I noticed my first chin hair in high school and I'm 22 now and have maybe 20 chin hairs but you can only see them up close. I can grow a fairly full mustache but it is also not very dark until its fully grown and that takes like 3 weeks. My sideburns are the thickest and darkest and longest hairs that I have on my face. I also have very faint, light baby hairs on my cheeks but I can only see them in the mirror up close. I think I have potential to some day grow a beard, it's just taking me very long. I plan on trying minoxidil. I've seen a decent amount of videos of people similar to me gaining the ability to grow a beard.

    Trichotillomania was a big issue for me, I started pulling my beard off around 2020 due to the anxiety of seeing loved ones getting sick with covid. That lasted for about an year. It created patches I'm not sure will ever grow back, but ever since I stopped pulling, the beard that did grow back kinda hide those patches. They're noticeable, but not too much if I comb it right.

    I was sure I'd be a solid beardy. My dad always had rock solid facial hair, and my brother had a solid beard at 16. Me though, not even close. It was extremely sparse until I was 30, and then became just sparse enough to not make for a good beard. It's very frustrating. I can grow a great moustache though, strangely enough. That comes in full and thick. It gives me have hope that my beard will continue to fill out more throughout my life. So maybe I'll be a Santa one day.

    • @johnnytaylor1243
      @johnnytaylor1243 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Beards or hair it all comes to genetics but here are few tips that might help :
      1-Eat more protein!
      2-Sleep well, don't stay up
      3-Take good care of your body by working out and getting nutrients dense food !!
      4-Don't drink too much
      5-Don't smock
      6-Take good multivitamin especially the one that has good amount of BIOTIN (b7)
      7- give it time to grow don't rush it and be patient! I grow mine at 24 years old
      8- if nothing has changed at all for couple of years then you can get the MINOXIDIL
      The minoxidil WILL grow your hair or your beard or whenever you want it to grow BUT as soon as you stop it you lose it! I'm afraid that's the rule!

    • @ibbydread6092
      @ibbydread6092 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Minoxidil can’t magically create new hair follicles. You have to go the natural route and hope that you have good genetics for hair density on your face. I find that it is good to grow a full beard don’t trim your neck hair. Your neck hair can bolster up your beard and make it appear denser.

    Im 18, but my facial hair grows thick everywhere besides the goatee area. Its kind of annoying, im trying to grow a beard and it’s the only thin area. Idk if anyone in my family grows good beard’s though, everyone in my family’s been clean shaven. Im just gonna grow it out for a while and see what happens. I think it will go well though, im a hairy person overall so it’ll probably be fine

    19. I can grow a decent beard and I’ve been told I’m lucky. But I shave it off after 2months because some parts start to become much thicker than others( usually on the chin and around the sideburns, while the rest usually just doesn’t grow that much). Any tips on even growth ?

      Maybe try to trim and keep some level of length of your beard there are videos on youtube for how to trim and maintain facial hair for longer amount of time but can’t help you with much tbh talk with someone who has a beard and they may help you have a good day!

  • @lyonelcole7334

    I think the biggest problem is the question of which beard suits me and which beard I want to wear.
    Especially in the beginning, the statement "just let it grow" doesn't help. Every beginner dreams of a long, bushy beard.
    But some people, like Johnny Depp, have to accept that they will never have a beard like that.
    I grew my very first beard with the Corona pandemic.
    I have very dark beard hairs, but they are not very dense, so not close together.
    But even now, after three years, I am discovering hairs where there were none before and gradually the gaps are closing.
    A long beard would be long and dark, but not thick. So I have to try to trim an "in-between" beard that gradually gets longer, but still short enough for the slow hairs to catch up.
    I think it is very difficult, especially for beginners, to find the right intermediate form.
