    Whats the long black thing in the middle of the carbs idler screw?

    Partially correct - check your manual to find the primary (Non- adjustable) carb and use that as a baseline. Ignore vacuum gauge reading - they vary greatly between manufacturers - just make sure they match between cylinders (carbs). Adjust the first outer two to match, then adjust the opposing outer two - then adjust the center screw to make the two left and two right match - you don`t go from #3 to #2 ect. Also, most manuals say to have the bike idling at a certain RPM to do the adjustments.

      I would agree with this person! My 2006 ZZR600 Kawasaki Service Manual says sync carbs 3+4, Then carbs 1+2, and then sync both carb banks with the middle screw! I just done my 1997 ZX9R same principle only on my 1997 ZX9R base carb is #2!? Just doing my own bikes following SM and ZXForums sites!!

      correct. You should balance carb 1 and 2 with the first screw, then 3 and 4 with 3rd screw.... then middle screw to balance all together.

    I've been trying to avoid doing all this. I got a stage one jet kit and I think I'll wait until mid winter.

    I've just bought a ZZR600 - this is helpful, but christ this is alot of info. I'm also based in the UK!
    The ZZR600 I just bought is only managing about 30mpg.. Not good!

  • @jasonputtock4428

    No: 3 you cannot blanace. that is the master. you can only readjust 3 to balance with 4 and 2. 1+2 is contgrolled by screw 1.. 2+ 3 is by screw 2 3+4 is balanced with screw 3... their are only 3 screws.

    Wow, every day is a school day. I only thought Hondas, like CBR's used master carb syncing, not the usual practice of balancing 1 to 2, then 3 to 4 then bank 1+2 to bank 3+4.
    Great video, I was going to look at buying a ZZR600 this week but think I'll opt for the Suzuki instead, carbs that need stripping every 4 to 5 weeks if not used, well life's too short. Must be a Keihin v Mikuni thing.

      i certainly have to agre. however once its running they handle very well indeed. I would say better than the cbr in some respects.

      cbr versions are much btter and more reliable. especially 1000f

      They all use a master carb and they all are tuned in pairs! He makes it sound complicated! No matter the # of the carb or injection throttle plate, one will be the fixed one, controlled by the idle screw. You male 1 and 2 act like one carb, make 3 and 4 the same (or in reverse, it dosen't matter) and then the middle. Simple.

      you need to reseat your air mixture screws.At time line 2.50mins. Please notice that I am holding a very long Engine idle mixture screw thread. This increases the engine turn over rate. IE throttle play. If you follow this cable back to the main carb bodies. Just of to the right. Their is a very long tube poking down to the glass table. it is on screen approx 2 cm apart from the main cable. This tube can be seen on all of the other carb pots. Lefdt of the main unit but formost front. In this little area are Little tiny screws. Did you change the screw settings. When cleaning this can alter the way the carbs are set. However, if you have not cleaned it fully then they can be blocked. If you have removed these screws then you have altered the running mixture. From scratch. If you did alter these screws. You need to reseat these gently...... then back out 3 fully turns of the srew. This is BASIC settings... Then these get dialed in at a dyno shop. Adversely, if youhave unbalanced the carbs as I have explained in this video, you need to rebalance them from carb 3. Get carb 2 balanced with carb 3. then re tweek carbs 1 + 2. then balance carb 3 + 4. try and dial them in so they are almost the same. remember to blip the throttle inbetween setting alterations.... Mix is key from the start. 3 full turns out from gentle seating position. Once done. Balance them.. Once done, then go back to the 3 full turns and test out one by one if the bike runs better or worse. 1/4 of a turn is most you do per carb. Personally. get it running then dyno shop the rest. Get the setting from the garage on Paper of what turns are out and what are in. on Fuel mixture. This settings will be key when you do this again. Then all you need to worry about is the balance process... After a fashion the lady gave up the bike as it was to omuch hassle when it kept failing because of Lack of USE... These bike are notorious of failing if they dont get used often enough... IE 3 weeks or more. in worst cases 2 weeks... bad i know.

      @jasonputtock4428  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      please also refer to the pilot screws at time line 3.50mins. This is the part I am talking about above. if you have altered these, then this is your major problem. 3 full turn out from general seating will get you back and running normally. between 3 full turns to 2.5 full turns.

    Many thanks for the info, got a 91 zzr and rebuilt the carbs and bike wont start. but book said to turn mixture screws out 1.5 turns so gonna try 3 turns and try again.

    • @jasonputtock4428
      @jasonputtock4428  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      oh hell yes do it 3 turns. I did exactly what you did at 1.5 turns and it was so annoying. This should get your bike running once again. Be very sure your sparks are good and reliable. This is another hidden factor this bike. DO NOT use an INLINE filter made out of plastic.

    • @jasonputtock4428
      @jasonputtock4428  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      alternatively, you could turn it out 1/8th turn to 3 turn out. This way you can see if the bike starts gradually. If it does you are on the right path. Never WOT the bike when doing this. The bike will run LEAN at first till it blips fine.

    • @christiananderson131
      @christiananderson131 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No plastic inline filter what is an alternative then

And now this tick over issue.. ive done new spark plugs and leads. New oil filter,air filter fuel filter new pull and push throttle cable etc but im getting nowhere.. i hope you may know whats wrong .

      Okay did you remove the mixture screw.?? if so, reseat them gently and turn a full 3 turns out. That is a ball park figure. Their are 4 screws in total and can be found at the bottom of the carbs. mostly hidden but can be accessed. Furthermore, i hope you bought new spark plugs from a local business company and not ebay. Their are alot of fakes out their and you may not even notice it. I would recommend NGK from your local shop....
