I've had 2 cats. Each came in from cold without owners. Both cats let me know the names I was using were not their names. They responded only when I stumbled upon the right ones - Alice and Eddie. Alice died, and then Eddie wandered into my home. Talking with my cats has always been a daily treat.
My 3 cats definitely know their names and don’t confuse them with each other 😸
My cat knows her name. You can call "Mamma Cat" and she will come running to you just like a dog. She was a feral cat having kittens every few months
I trapped her and with 11 months of patiently working with her she became the most loving and loyal cat I have known
My cat does know her name. I very frequently use it. Sometimes she comes, sometimes she turns her head and looks at me, and sometimes she just turns one ear. I love her, I know that when she comes, she really wants to come to me.
BTW when I call her name and she turns her head and looks at me, blinking slowly I know she heard me. She simply has her own business which is more important. If it is sleeping, watching birds or waiting for other cats does not matter - cats‘ business is cats‘ business, people should respect their world.
I have trained all my cats to come when called - the first one came to me snapping my fingers. Used treats. It can be very important. With our first cat, we came home for lunch one day to a house full of smoke. I summoned the cat and safely secured her before the fire department arrived. (BTW: House was fine, we caught it while it was still smouldering.)
I adopted my cat, whom I really wanted to name Harry, when he was 18 months old. Fortunately, his name was Larry so it was an easy transition. 95% of the time he comes when I call him.
I call my cats their nicknames and they come to me
I started out calling my feral kitty Cicca but she pretended to be deaf on both ears. She was the tiniest little furball I'd ever seen and she did not miao like the usual cats do. Instead she mewed softly, so I decided to name her MiuMiu and she responded immediately. Whenever I call her she comes running.
And yes, I talk to her: in Italian, German and English and I'm sure she understands every word I say.😻😻😻
Yes. When I had to change it when I found out that kitty John "Muggsy" McGraw was actually a girl kitty, I googled him and found out his wife's name and it didn't take long for Muggsi Blanche McGraw to go from recognizing "Muggsy" to recognizing "Muggsi Blanche," tho' I also call her "Sweet," and "My Little Loaf-er" when she's sitting like a loaf. She got her name in the first place 'cause I'd rescued a kitty from our backyard and named it Jake Stahl, the 1912 player/manager of the Boston Red Sox, and when at a friend's house I was looking at kitties rescued from her sister's side yard, I had to give the kitty who chose me the name of the 1912 manager of the New York Giants. The day after Muggsi Blanche chose me, I rescued another kitty from the backyard and called it Zane Grey, because it was gray. Jake and Zane both had very severe wobbly kitty syndrome and passed within a few weeks, which I'm still sad about, but my Muggsi Blanche is doing well. She was about three weeks old when she chose me :).
My 5 cats know their names.
When I call "Auzzie, Saffron, Amika, Peace, Neko" they don't all come running together, but they all arrive within a few seconds of each other.
My cat was a homeless stray I adopted 2 years ago. We named her Catherine after the Princess of Wales. It suits her perfectly. It didn't take long for her to learn it!
I named my cat Tuco after my favourite character (Eli Wallach played) from the great Spaghetti western... The Good The Bad And The Ugly, but he comes to me no matter what 😁 he's very protective and doesn't like ANYONE else being in our house 😆😆
This is another great video in helping me with my cats. Although when I call my cat, he runs to me and meows but wants to be loved, except when I say foodies they they all go crazy. My best cat friend is named Neve, who is my furrbaby purrs and slow blinks me thanks I'm grateful for your kitty cat videos it's ameowzing purr❤
Our cat Trixie only comes to us sometimes. No matter how many times we call her name. It seems she just doesn't care...😼
I've had cats all my life and have been teaching mine their names for 50 years. I never had one too dumb to learn their name--and believe me some of mine have been really intellectually impaired. I disagree with one thing you said about starting from a distance. Start right on top of them. Only gradually move away. But more importantly, you first have to discover what motivates yours.
One of mine was a cheese snob, only wanted Stilton and Roquefort, one didn't care about food at all but would run from anywhere to me if I jingled his fishing pole toy. I find Inaba Churu and a cheap freeze-dried single ingredient Amazon treat called Pure Bites to be great. They're my current cat's to die for treat. Use that treat and the cat's name together to train.
Say the name and shove the treat under their nose. Repeat about 4 times from very close and remember to pet and praise. Next time, try it from a VERYVERYTINY further distance. If you don't see some evidence the cat's starting to get the association between the name and the treat, go back to doing it like right there in your lap or sitting next to the cat on the couch. At some point (do quick super short lessons. Cats get bored super fast. Really clever cats learn at light-speed compared to dogs and with way less repetition) you will start to see some evidence the cat understands that sound means something good's about to appear in your fingers. If you say the name and the cat whips around and faces you looking excited, he's got it.
Now you can start diversifying. Cats need to learn the same lesson in every room in the house and in every place you'll expect them to respond. We travel with our cats so we teach it in the car, beside the car, in hotel rooms, on leashed walks. Use your imagination. You should, if you persist, pretty quickly have a cat you can call from anywhere TO anywhere in under a minute. if there's a fire or he's an indoor cat and he gets out, knwing his name like this may one day save your darling's life.
My cats, Pierre, Chunk, Lila, Penelope, Leo, Stella, Duster. My chunchilla's Sweet Sweet and Sentinel. They all know or have known their names. My cat Lila, even knows her nicknames
I use my cat's name all the time. He recognizes it and I can tell he loves hearing his name. He will even come to me when I call him. Sometimes. My departed kitty friend used to come running from another room when called. My present little friend has a 2 syllable name, and it took time for him to recognize it.
My sweet black female former feral cat I named Raven. She's been living with me in my house for 4 years and definitely knows her name.
I am getting ready to bring another sweet black feral female into my house and she already knows her name, which is Shadow.
Cairo is my cats name, she responds to it.
Both my cats know their name.
Yes 3 cats
Poi, Taz, Buster, Mac, Hoku, Jam comprise our “kitty ohana.
My cats are awesome
My cats come when I call them. I have Rex and Bijou.
My cat does
Mine was leagaly "The Dude", but his call was "hey buddy click click"
My four cats nicknames are porky catdog ,babygirl, fatplumo
Enzo, Tiva, Baby Bear, Playboy, Tiggy. Meow. I guess I did pretty well
All my furfolk know their name and will come if called...I have Basmati, Little Taller ,( who stands on 2 legs a lot), Piss'n'Vinegar and One Toke who came last and was 1 more than I really needed! Lol! They answer to Bas, Tall, Vin and Toke! When they want too! 😂
My cats know their names and when I feed them they each go to their own bowl at feeding time
My kitten knows her name. She comes when called. Her name is Beanie.
My cat comes when I call her faster than my dog does
Who taught these ppl about cats? They know NOTHING at the least about my cats. Anybody else?🙃😇
