    We bought our '07 new. It has the 2.4L with auto. Almost 200k and so far nothing major. Btw. you can get 4, eight foot long 2x4s inside and still close the hatch completely! We slept in it at a couple of rest stops in the back with all the seats flat. The leather seats are still in great shape. All in all, if I could go back in time, I buy another in a heart beat!

    We had an 06 for 9 yrs., It never gave us a problem , great car when we had it.

      Then you know how you can love it and want another vehicle all at the same time. :) I just want it to be more of a truck than it is still I will keep it until it dies. :)

    I just bought one of these. It's a 2011 LT with only 22,000 miles. Garaged all its life so it looks like new inside and out. I have a 2009 Chevy Cobalt coupe and it's been trouble free since new so I thought an HHR would be just as good since it's the same chassis, engine, transmission, etc. , The HHR is more space efficient of course. I love it so far.
    I see you have Wisconsin plates. I grew up there. I live in Seattle now.

    • @MidwestMotoRider
      @MidwestMotoRider  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I live near Milwaukee. I hope you enjoy the HHR as much as I have. I have nearly 200,000 mostly trouble free miles on it and it is not garage kept and looks great given the amount of salt we use here. ;) Probably not something you worry about much in Washington. The one issue I had with the HHR that seems to be common is around 50k miles the front bushings start to go on the suspension. That said it depends on how you drive and your roads. You will have a lot of time before you have to worry about that just something to watch out for. Take care and drive safe! Great score by the way!

    Good in-depth video! I like the built-in toolboxes and at least they did put the battery in an accessible place instead of in the wheel well like some Chrysler cars.

    • @MidwestMotoRider
      @MidwestMotoRider  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea, they do make great toolboxes if I had enough spare tools I would keep them in there. My Mom's Chrysler is that way what a pain I take this setup over hers any day. :)

    I have a 2010 hhr so far for almost 7 years ans I love it. The only issue is blind spots, but other than that it's great. Awesome for camping and hauling a kayak on top.

    If you haven't had a door handle break on that HHR you're a unicorn. We've got a 2006 and I've replaced the front door ones - drivers and passenger sides - three times. We live in Michigan so maybe it's the cold weather, I dunno. I just did both of 'em again this last week. And, no, the wife and I are 71 and we don't yank on the things real hard. They just break with regularity. I would add, too, that if they keep breaking (as in our case) there are some little posts to which the handle attaches and they degrade to a point (because you have to glue the things in to do those "TH-cam: repairs) that you'll eventually have to buy a new door handle. The trick, I have learned (far too late) is to buy the all metal door replacements....which I didn't know existed. If you do them once, only, the direction on TH-cam are fine. The handles break because they are made of cheap plastic.

    Thanks Scott, I did learn a few things and especially the battery location. Thanks for all the tips and tricks. I really appreciate it! I am encouraged.

    They are not a bad car all in all . , they do seem to have issues , but most are easier to fix than changing the air filter , lol Every car out there comes with a list of problems

    • @MidwestMotoRider
      @MidwestMotoRider  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yea, I don't own many cars that are as new as this one was when I got it so I don't know how other cars stack up but so far this one seems good and the problems like you said where pretty easy to fix so far. :)

    My '06 2LT (yeah, I have the 2.4 :D ) just rolled over 200,000 miles and has been pretty danged reliable. I do plan on, if I keep it, going through and replacing a few wear items. I replaced a door handle after my daughter got a little over-excited when I pulled up to a favorite restaurant... but didn't need to do any plastic welding or anything. The sunroof 'spoiler' on mine is disconnected and tied down. I don't miss it. Headlights are a pain compared to my Suburban, but I'm used to 'em now. What I keep thinking is about my Dad, who sold some cars real cheap over the years, cuz they weren't worth anything at the time, only to kick himself years later. This car is pretty unique, though somewhat similar to the PT Cruiser (same guy designed both of 'em), and built for only a few years. Their value is down right now, so unless I need some quick cash, too much bother to sell. I keep it garaged, though, so maybe, one day... when unicorns roam the Earth.... Oh yeah, I like the location of the window switches. They last longer as they aren't located in a slam-prone part of the car. :)

    • @MidwestMotoRider
      @MidwestMotoRider  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, all good points. For me this one is too rusted out and that is my fault for using the heck out of it and not tending to it like I should have. The 2.2 is nice however I sure would love to go with a 2.4, my wife has one in her Chevy and its much better. Take care!

  • @TheShadeTreeFixitMan
    @TheShadeTreeFixitMan 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The headlight replacement is similar on the PT Cruiser, though it has a small removable panel for that purpose, but this will still be better than having to remove the front bumper which many of the newer cars require. I see yours has the cup holder under the hood too...LOL

    • @MidwestMotoRider
      @MidwestMotoRider  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      LOL.. Yup I thought that was mighty nice of Chevy to put one there for my coffee or if things are going really bad beer. :)

    I like my 2006 HHR LT with 2.4 liter 4 cylinder, ABS brakes, optional 17" factory aluminum wheels, AM-FM CD, two 12 outlets, & gray color. I like window controls on dash. Except for replacing battery & both front hub bearing assemblies, twice in four years , which I did the last time, no problems.

      @MidwestMotoRider  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, every winter since 2007 and it sit's outside all the time. If you live in a dryer place I bet you have no issues with rust on this car.

    I noticed that your HHR was an LT. You said that it had the 2.2 liter engine. I also have an LT and it has the 2.4 liter engine. I was under the impression that the 2.4 liter was standard in the LT model. Just saying. But its not a big HP difference though. Mine is 172 hp.

    • @MidwestMotoRider
      @MidwestMotoRider  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mine is a 2.2 liter so I guess they made them with both motor types yea, probably not a big difference in HP but I would take a 2.4 because the 2.2 is a dog with the A/C on. :)

    Tentatively looking at a 2006 with 160*** miles on it. Is this a vehicle like a Buick LaSabre that can take 200thousand+ and keep going? I'm just wondering if it is worth buying with higher mileage

    Hey Scott got a 07 lt2 2.4 and you were saying that you had the injector replaced was there a code for it ? I dealing with a p1174 and they say to replace the injectors .. when you went to dealer was expensive to have it reprogram ? If I have to I can do the job but the dealer has to program the ecm which I dread ..

    man, that thing looks like a pain to work on. I thought the point of the eco-tec was to try and be the next "small block" of small motors? the HHR does have some nice options but It seems far too much like a disposable vehicle. when are car companies going to designing this way?!
    reminder: I've never owned a car newer than 1990. So my judgement is a little skewed!

    • @MidwestMotoRider
      @MidwestMotoRider  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      No you are actually pretty spot on, the Eco-Tec was supposed to be an easy to work on motor that was focused on fuel economy and this one hit that mark but missed the easy to work on part. Having said that I have not had much go wrong with it so from that stand point it does not get easier however if I had to replace say the timing belt I am pretty much screwed and will likely have to pay a mechanic to do it. Fingers crossed I don't have to do that.

    I'll never buy another chevy car, EVER! I have a 2009 hhr, worst car I've ever had and I'm 80 yrs old. All the dash lights came on, took it to mechanic after spending almost $900 it STILL DOESNT WORK.
